I’m taking today off for my birthday, but I wanted to use this opportunity to promote the idea of supporting Asian stories. In these difficult and often scary times, they are more important than ever. It so happens, I have written the music and the story for one such story (a Broadway musical called Allegiance starring George Takei and Lea Salonga) and am working on another (a novel called MA IN ALL CAPS about my family through multiple generations and across three continents, as remembered through the unique voice of my Ma.)
One of my life’s goals is to ensure these kinds of stories continue to be told and heard, not only so that young Asian American theater lovers and aspiring novelists will see themselves represented and be inspired, but also to share their richness and importance with the greater world. Stories bring us together, underscore our common humanity. If you’d like to be part of this effort, please consider purchasing and watching the Allegiance DVD with your family. Visit dvdset.allegiancemusical.com to help make sure we never forget our shared history, however painful it might sometimes be.
And if you’d like to be an early reader of my novel, sign up as a microdonor at patreon.com/jaykuo for less than a coffee per month and enjoy MA IN ALL CAPS as it comes out in serial form 2x weekly. I love feedback and to talk to readers about my work! You will also be first in line to read my next novel as it rolls out: It’s a political thriller with an Asian American lawyer as the main character. Hmmm, wherever shall I get my inspiration?
Thank you all for trusting in me as I have embarked on this new quest as a political and legal commentator. I very much look forward to working and presenting each and every piece, and to interacting daily with all of you. Your support and encouragement has sustained me, and I hope we have all grown richer in spirit and knowledge together.
With my warmest regards,
Jay
Happy ,Happy Birthday, Jay!
