If the army wants to keep any credibility with the people that they are a non-partisan institution, they will discipline every single soldier that attended that event and can the commander for allowing it. I am disgusted by this and personally offended. One of my ancestors fought in the Battle of Lexington, and then other battles. He eventually became a member of the original Society of Cincinnati. He fought against autocracy, so that I, 250 years later could live in a democracy. I’ve recently reread the Declaration of Independence several times, and those men were ANGRY but also able to think, plan and put things into action. We need to recapture that anger against autocrats, and put into place legislators who can enact laws that help us remain a democracy.
We need to vote Republicans out of office at every level, then call a Constitutional Convention to modernize and update this amazing document by eliminating citizens united, establish uniform voting regulations, include/guarantee rights for all, especially women, remove money completely from politics, and others that don't come to mind right now.
This event really pissed me off. I served ten years and was taught quite clearly that you do not ever align yourself with any politician or political party while in uniform or while acting in any capacity for the service you are in. Ever.
The citizens of this country must have an unshakable faith that our militaries are nonpartisan and will do everything in their power to protect every person.
Every single servicemember at that fascist rally should have been marched into an Article 15 hearing and then given a dishonorable discharge. This includes everyone up through the chain of command to the base commander. Every single one of them was at a monumental pivot point when they were asked or told to participate in that disgusting rally. Everyone of them chose to ignore the laws and rules set down in the UCMJ. Those without the moral backbone to refuse gave up the privilege to serve. They can no longer be trusted to serve in an ethical, morally clear manner.
I agree 100%. I served 11 years. We were reminded often that we were to remain politically neutral while in uniform or serving in any official capacity. The job of the military is supposed to be protecting the people -- not sucking up to a wannabe Kim Jong Un-esque military dictator. I'm disgusted. And glad I'm not still in service, frankly.

If anyone had any hope that the military will put their oath to the country over the perceived duty to the president this is a reality check. Like in all authoritarian countries the military usually plays along because it is by nature comprised of more nationalistic people than not. I am also really worried that all the equipment that is being rolled into DC for the parade is being used for a more nefarious purpose afterwards.
