This is exactly what Authoritarian regimes do! Silence their opposition by any means that can! We must all stand fast against this attack on our freedom of speech and censorship from our government! This is absolutely unacceptable!

Bravo Stephen Colbert! And thank you James Talarico for your spot on assessment of the importance of the separation of church and state. You both sent a message in this interview, and anyone watching can see it. When I see christian nationalists praying before voting for a bill to empower themselves and deny basic human rights to their constituents, I cringe at the damage it is doing to Christ’s actual message. Christ did not seek power and He abhorred discrimination and harm to others. He stood up for the downtrodden, the poor, the sick. The exact opposite of what christian nationalists promote.

As James Talarico so eloquently stated, the message is to love one another.

Equal time equal time be great to have them at same time and debate . that should be the rule both or nothing

Resist Herr GropenFuhrer's avatar

Candidates are always free to have debates. Other TV & radio spots should not be veto-able by your opponent. The equal time rule only guarantees equal opportunity, not equal broadcast time. If someone is carried, all of their opponents have 1 week to ask for equal time. That has worked for 60 years.

When the FCC starts holding FOX etc accountable for their lies and shenanigans, then the FCC can begin to look credible

I work at one of the home improvement box stores. I was helping a customer who’s a veteran today, and apropos of nothing, he said, “400,000 criminal illegal aliens have been deported, and a million have self-deported.”

That’s why the crime rate has gone down! I wanted to tell him to turn off Fox News. That’s apparently the slop they’re shoveling now. And *he’s a veteran*. Fox disinformation/lies, and all the disinformation that’s flooded social media, means that we live in two different realities in this country.

THANK YOU for bringing this to our attention and especially for providing the interview because I'm sharing TF out of it and making sure EVERYONE in my orbit knows about it! Streisand Effect ENGAGED!! Also, sending all good thoughts and healing vibes to your pupper!

the number one effort needs to be: be certain that we can defend ourselves against the brainwashing that has happened since the maga cult got started

At present -- around noon on Feb 17 -- the Talarico YouTube interview has close to 1.25 million views. And who knows how many new donors? Bravo, Colbert!

HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

Now I'll have to go back and look at it again. Streisand effect on steroids!

Yep, now 1.7 million. We should check it again before Colbert's show tonight. Surely it will get a lot more than that.

Judy Karasik's avatar

at 3:25, it's up to 2.1M!

HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

Great. Let’s hope it keeps going up!

In the words of the immortal Princess Leia, the more they tighten their grip, the more star systems will slip through their fingers! Thanks for posting the link to the full interview. May it be seen by millions! And Happy New Year.

Thank you Jay and Happy Lunar New Year! Hope your puppy is ok <3

P.S. The interview with Colbert and Talarico is on Youtube also, in case you missed it in Jay's post

Here's the link. You gotta love the "nude" pic of Brandon Carr. 🤣

Colbert was brilliant. This is how to RESIST!💪💙

I did this with closed captions and no volume. Absolutely loved the "nude" picture of Brendan Carr. My first thought when I saw it was, "I sure hope that pot slips!" Since I live in the desert I know all too well what cactus thorns can do to you, even in not the most sensitive areas…

I’m a fan of Talarico but if I was in Texas I’d vote for Jasmine Crockett. But that said F—K THE FCC, CBS CHAIR and all who sail with them💯

Susan Stone's avatar

Debbie, I am in Texas, and even though Talarico is good, my vote will be for Jasmine Crockett, and I hope she wins the primary. If Talarico wins, I would definitely vote for him in the general election.

Debbie's avatar

Absolutely a great idea!!! Two fantastic people to choose from!!!💯🤫

Debbie's avatar

Susan a responder has a question on whether we can keep them both if one wins the primary in Texas??

Susan Stone's avatar

As far as I know, the answer to the question is "no". Jasmine has given up her seat in the house to run for senate. Talarico has been in the Texas house, and I know nothing about those elections. Chances are good, though, that he gave up his seat also. Hope this helps.

Jon Margolis's avatar

Vote your head, not your heart. Talarico can win in November. Crockett will lose. We need to get the seat.

Susan Stone's avatar

Point taken. But I'm curious why you say Crockett will lose. Is it because she is a Black woman? Are we talking misogyny and racism here?

elliemae.padme66's avatar

Thinking, just reading the past, political history of Texas. Right or wrong, I believe this is a political strategy/ reality that affects National elections, also; but, particularly, the South.

Barbara Keating's avatar

I saw him on a The View episode I’d DVR’d & the one that Jay mentioned above. I was very impressed, and even MORE impressed at his response when asked about his “opponent” Jasmine Crockett….he said they are simpatico politically and that he would TOTALLY support her if she won the primary. Sounds like they’ve got each other’s backs in this—rowing for the same team and all. Reminds me of some of the stories coming out about the Olympic athletes who compete, but are friends and root for each other even when they vie for the same “win”. It can be competitive without being adversarial…love it!

Jeff's avatar

I like Crockett too but I think Talarico has a much better shot at winning the general and he's excellent.

Pam McCullough's avatar

I agree. I love Jasmine!

Beth Staples's avatar

Does anyone happen to know: if Talarico wins the primary, does Jasmine plan to stay in the House? And conversely, if Jasmine wins the primary, will Talarico stay in the TX House? Just curious. We need them both in politics, and it would be amazing if they could both be in Congress!

Jon Margolis's avatar

She is not running for her re-drawn House seat. She should have, because she had a chance to win that race, but almost no chance to win statewide, while Talarico has a decent shot in November.

Debbie's avatar

Maybe we could get him to run for the federal House?? One in each chamber🔥💯

Beth Staples's avatar

That would be amazing!!

Debbie's avatar

Yes she does. She Says that the pac benefits low income programs BUT when the dems or the independents/ progressives take control we can start to cement in PAC contributions, take corporations out of personhood status and limit ALL CONTRIBUTIONS.

Debbie's avatar

Susan? As a Texas native can you project an answer on this?

Susan Stone's avatar

I looked at this, and I have to say that IMO $26,500 is NOT a lot of money. It's not like accepting millions, and it was from a prior campaign. I think she is allowed to use moneys previously donated without being judged negatively for it.

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

But if you read that article, it was more than that. And James also accepted corporate money in his last campaign! If Dems ever manage to get control of the Senate, they should pass a law limiting corporate donations.

Jon Margolis's avatar

Talarico can win in November. Crockett will surely lose. End of story.

Purobi Phillips's avatar

How do you know this? Looking at the history, the recent Texas history, it seems neither of them can win statewide. But the recent special elections give us hope.

Cathy Racette's avatar

Just watched the interview on YouTube and I hope thousands do the same! Way to go, Mr. Carr! You brought lots more attention to a great interview.

Susan Stone's avatar

Definitely a great interview! It was nice to find out who he really is, and that he is not afraid of the truth.

Cancel Culture anyone?

Barbara Keating's avatar

I know, right? They holler the loudest complaining about the very thing they do. Think the Republican Party should be renamed the Hypocblican Party and its “leader” the worst offender. As in let’s make assholery, racism, misogyny and grifting great again….here are some steroids to amp some your worst proclivities! At least many R’s are not buying the schtick on the Trump-Epstein files…maybe they’ve finally found a “bottom” they won’t go lower on….let’s see how it turns out!

Yes, I believe the last time was 1966. Maybe the chaos transitions us to transformation. We can hope!

October 2025. Trump said, "We took the freedom of speech away." There's no doubt that there's a threat to freedom of speech. For some, not all.

Happy Year of the Horse, Jay. Thank you. Yours was the only site I've found so far that showed the whole Talarico interview. It was very enlightening. I hope your dog is ok. We must all fight to preserve our rights to free speech.

Thanks, Jay, and happy new year! I for one would love to see, say, Ken Paxton on The View.
