And don't forget when the whole "they're eating the dogs!" thing was happening, JD Vance said very clearly in front of TV cameras that he didn't care if legally documented immigrants were taken away with undocumented ones. They say these things in front of God and everybody and too many people wave it away as if it doesn't matter. This is the epitome of "first they came for the Communists...."

That was the truth that JD Vance spoke, he doesn't care if legal immigrants get taken away or citizens, until someone takes his wife and children away.

Keep in mind, hospitals run on razor thin margins. Cash flow is tight. They will be forced to raise fees to big insurance, who in turn will walk away.

I'd like to see the attorneys that defend these unconstitutional orders held in contempt at a minimum. A verbal thrashing from the judge is good, but they really should be held to a higher standard by the state bar. Perhaps is their license to practice was in jeopardy they might be less likely to waste the court's time with their ridiculous defenses.

It seems that most of MAGA seem to not know their family history. My German ancestors came here, entering through Galveston, TX, because they knew they would be denied entry in NYC. I have no idea whether they became citizens as we know it today, they just came in, started farming, and lived their lives. The first were poor farmers, my grandfather became a blacksmith, my mother a R.N., and I’m a CPA. As far as I can tell, I was the only hospital birth and therefore registered as a citizen, so might I, a lifelong resident of the USA be deported?

It's entirely possible, and is a long-standing issue; it predates Trump. The Bush and Obama administrations have done this, too. Trump is just doing it more openly. US citizens, especially those born in the Rio Grande Valley, have had their passports revoked when trying to return to the US from an international trip, facing accusations that they were actually born in Mexico, and the midwives allegedly issued false US birth certificates.

First, Expedited Removal has been part of US law for many years already; Trump just expanded the scope.

Second, immigration cases are often not appealable in the first place. This is because due process does not apply to non-citizens outside US territory.

How about starting here at 8.4 Misconduct (g) engage in conduct that the lawyer knows or reasonably should know is harassment or discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or socioeconomic status in conduct related to the practice of law. Jay, I live in a large town in rural Oregon, and agriculture is one of the primary sources of revenue coming into our county. Many of the jobs on the farms, ranches, and vineyards are done by Hispanic people ( my understanding is that Mexico is the primary country of origin). In the past few decades, there are a number of Hispanic families that have been very successful in purchasing and operating fairly large and lucrative farms. I'm sure that there will be some impact on these families with the new immigration policies and this may interfere with their continued success. In recent years, the cost to purchase productive farmland has increased a great deal. I am wondering if we are overlooking something that may be important to consider in our understanding of what motivates these new policies. I am currently reading a book entitled " A Call To Farms"( pub. 2024), by Jennifer Grayson. On pg. 54 in a footnote, she discusses the Victory Gardens that were so prevalent during that time. " What's also seldom noted is what really led to the rationing and food shortages of WW2 that prompted the U.S. Government to propagandize the Victory Gardens: the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans, who until that moment constituted 2/3 of the West Coast's farmers (growing 40% of California's vegetables alone). The evidence emerged that internment was orchestrated by the U.S. Government as an agricultural land grab for corporate agribusinesses. Victory Gardens were the decoy." In her notes, she gives several sources for this evidence ( which I have not looked into, sorry!). This was kind of a revelation to me, as I knew different parts of the story but not specifically about the land grab aspects, or how it all fit together. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

One important aspect is that Hispanic != recent immigrants. Oregon has not been historically part of Mexico, but California has (and people do migrate). A very large share of the CA population is Hispanic, many of them descendants of families predating California statehood. A few of the Mexican ranchos (or at least the ranch houses, often the last remaining part of the rancho) have been owned by the same families since the 1700s.

First, I worry about these cases going before Trump-appointed judges before they make it all the way to the Supreme Court. Many don't appear to value the Constitution any more than Trump does. Second, I fear that Trump and Miller will take the 'don't ask for permission, do it and ask for forgiveness later' route with immigrants. They seem wholly committed to their course no matter what the law says.

It must follow that if the parents of US born children are not subject to the laws of the US then the lawful authorities can do nothing as they can only act when a law has been broken. I think the Reagan era judge was threatening the little lawyer puppet with his comment about bar membership. The Orange nitwit doesn’t realize that lawyers will start to hesitate if their meal ticket is under threat for ethical breach. That’s the soft underbelly and invites the point of attack.
