Stepping into Eze is like entering a fairy tale village out of The Brothers Grimm. It’s a place that traces its history back to the Phoenicians who built temples to Isis 4000 years ago. Situated now in France right by Italy and Monaco, it changed hands several times, once part of the Roman Empire, then held by the Moors until 973 when William de Provence drove them out. In 1388 the House of Savoy built up Eze as a fortification given its height and strategic location. It changed hands several times more between the French and the Turks. Today, it retains all of the old buildings and walkways it once had, making it charming even while modern boutiques (ateliers, florists, candy makers) jockey to sell to the tourists. As one of these tourists, I fell in love immediately.
great pics of this lovely spot
