The whole GOP campaign was just projections of what they were going to do when/if they won the 2024 election.

Kay-El's avatar

They said what the low information voter wanted to hear. Too bad it came at those folks expense. Ooops 🙄

Susan Stone's avatar

Except it's not an oops in the mind of anyone in office. They don't care about what happens to ordinary folks - until they learn the hard way by losing elections. But even then it won't be long until they're back at their old tricks.

Bambi Vargo's avatar

It was all about eggs.

Every Republican accusation is a confession.

The Brad's avatar

Anything they accuse the other side of doing is something they’re doing. Thats where the idea to blame it on someone else comes from them. They are not clever enough to concoct a story about someone else. Much easier to cheat preemptively and then accuse the other side of doing it.

As we all know, no organization can make Megyn Kelly look like a fool.

She handles that all by herself.

She may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you- she really is an idiot.

Some in the military are also not happy with “Armageddon”.

“A combat-unit commander told non-commissioned officers at a briefing Monday that the Iran war is part of God’s plan and that Pres. Donald Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth,” according to a complaint by a non-commissioned officer.

From Saturday morning through Monday night, more than 110 similar complaints about commanders in every branch of the military had been logged by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).”

Christina Gray's avatar

Add to that Pete Hegseth's crusader tatoos.

Seriously? This is concerning about the state of mind of mid-level commanders in the military, all coupled with rising anti-Muslim (All Muslims, not just Shia or Suni) as well as rising anti-semitism.

Hegseth with his rhetoric about ignoring the rules of engagement and Geneva Conventions gives me serous pause that he might counsel the unstable and quixotic president to use a nuke.

Martha Howell's avatar

On the plus side, that might get Mike Johnson to start paying attention when the teacher is discussing current events

Jerry Minkoff's avatar

I'm a little confused. No, make that a lot confused. He seems to be saying that Armageddon is a good thing. Maybe it would be if you're a spectator and not right in the middle of it. Oh. I think I figured it out. If you're a believer you're going to experience the Rapture so it will be okay.

Right, got it. Never mind. Just carry on with the war, everything is going according to The Plan.™

D Epp's avatar

Maybe what they're not saying about Armageddon and the Rapture is that people will suffer greatly, maybe for years or decades, before they are 'raptured', with radiation burns and sickness, deformities in their children, and a landscape that doesn't support life.

Judy Player's avatar

their plan was always to destroy everything - remember Bannon as the nihilist?

Go find Andra Watkins substack today and it will explain. She was raised in christian nationalism and has a great handle on this aspect. It’s scary.

Christian Nationalism is a death cult.

Jim Klug's avatar

Any apocalyptic religion is a death cult - they want the world to end so they will be "saved", while the 'heretics' and 'non-believers' will suffer eternal torment...it's what they live for.

I like seeing this, but I don’t trust any of them—they do this crap and eventually fall in line and then the rest of the lemming magats go along.

Jay Kuo's avatar

I don’t see Thomas Massie or MTG falling in line… I think this break is real, and in any event it is sweeping across the MAGA mainstream unchecked. That has long term effects even if some reverse course later.

Kate's avatar

I really hope this bears out, for the world’s sake…

Mari L'Esperance's avatar

I don’t trust any of them, either — I suspect that the GQP and its most ardent followers are undergoing a low-and-slow rebranding effort to prepare for ‘28.

HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

Aside from Stephen Miller being an a$$ in general, "Liz Cheney is Kamala's top advisor?!"

Is the only way to get rid of him through a third impeachment, but this time a CONVICTION? Mitch McConnell has a lot to answer for.

Also, MTG's hands aren't remotely clean of dragging us this far into destruction and depravity.

Judy Player's avatar

Many many people have very much to account for. Currently, they don't care and are on a sugar high.

HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

More like saccharine. Sugar is real; what they hype is manufactured.

Wis's avatar

Thank you for saying this, HarrisWalz - I don’t trust anybody - NO ONE - on the right. MTG included.

Cheney has integrity in that she stands firm in her beliefs, but I still hate her politics.

bLUEduRham's avatar

I’m with you, Wis!

HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

Yes, that’s what makes Miller’s statement so unhinged…just suggesting that adds another notch to the Miller Belt of Inane Comments.

Jim Klug's avatar

You left the S out of 'insane'.

HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

"Inane" probably is too soft for this, but then "insane" leans towards "I'm not responsible for my actions."

HA! Is there a chance in the world that you're familiar with the word game on the New Yorker website called "Shuffalo?" You get four letters to start with and have to make a word out of them. Then they add a letter and see if you can figure out the next word.

You took my "inane" and made it "insane." I'll raise you by adding an A. Bet you can get the next word by re-scrambling...an apt one, although still not strong enough. (Bonus points if you can actually find a four-letter word "below" inane.)

Betsy L's avatar

The biggest thing that bothers me about all this (and there are a lot of things) was Sen. Mark Warner coming out of the briefing by Liddle Marco saying that we've gone to war because there was a credible threat to Israel by Iran. We have already supported genocide in Gaza (by my beloved Pres. Biden - don't think I didn't notice) but now we're doing Netanyahu another favor? I'm done with Israel. They can fight their own wars. I want a Dem party plank in 2028 that says Israel's on its own from now on. No more US aid of any kind, money or weapons.

Jay Kuo's avatar

It’s an outrageous amount of say Israel has if that is actually true. Trump is denying it but that contradicts Rubio

lucyshadow's avatar

You're completely misreading that Warner Quote.

Warner was asked whether there was any evidence to suggest that Iran posed a credible threat to the United States (Trump's stated reasoning for the strike). He responded that there wasn't, if any Nation was under threat by Iran it would be Israel, and that equating a threat to Israel with a threat to the US would be putting us into uncharted waters that we shouldn't be going into.

Celeste Myslewski's avatar

So right! I won't vote for anyone with AIPAC membership. We have much need in this country. Why are we working our buttons off to make Israelis' lives better.

Riversong Pond's avatar

Keep in mind that most ordinary Israelis hate their current leaders as much as we hate ours.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

I notice the corporate-owned media quit covering their weekly protests long ago.

Pam Birkenfeld's avatar

I think it was more like Israel was incredible threat to Iran. That was the reason Trump and Company gave for going ahead and bombing Iran in the first place. So they would stop Israel from striking first, made absolutely no sense whatsoever.

VT_Maid's avatar

The thing I try to keep in mind is that Netanyahu is Israel's Trump. Enormously unpopular, hard right and desperate to stay in office to avoid legal consequences of his criminal actions. I try not to lump all Israeli's in the same sewer as Netanyahu just as I hope the rest of the world isn't lumping all Americans in with Trump.

Unwavering alliances between nations just because the alliance was there in the past may be a thing of the past, thanks to the extremists that have managed to buy or kill their way into power.

Samantha Rose | Good Girl Myth's avatar

Who would have guessed that Trump would say whatever he could to get support but never mean any of it?

Oh right. Most of us.

At least he's dismantling his support base, one action at a time.

Judy Player's avatar

It won't matter. The damage is done. It's unclear how it ends and how it can be fixed - if at all.

maggie towne's avatar

Cool the chicken little talk please

Betsy L's avatar

No. It needs to be said. Here is the only place we can say it.

Dirk Faegre's avatar

Whenever will the congressional Republicans get the message??

Trump is a loser. And a jerk. And a conman. And a grifter. And a sociopathic narcissist. And demented. And a liar. And now a warmonger. And likely a pedophile.

Is there no hole deep enough for them to dig themselves into?

Is there nothing he can do to cause them to reconsider their subservience?

Apparently not. However, we know how to fix this in November. And we’re going to if he’s not already gone by then.

Jay Kuo's avatar

We need to send them the message in the midterms.

Dirk Faegre's avatar

No! We can’t wait that long. He’s wrecking our nation, our norms of society, our liberties, our economy, and for too many wrecking their very lives.

We have all the proof we need to toss him out of office and into jail.

Add to this: Pam Bondi, the president’s go to lawyer who performs on demand; Pete Hegseth, jerk cheerleader for tough guy war; Kash Patel, a useless jerk who fires our best Iran intel team (just as the war begins) because they had investigated Trump’s stealing classified secrets; Kristina Noem, well okay she’s gone, finally; Steve Miller & Russ Vought - need I say more about them!

And, get this, DJT demands to be involved in Iran’s selection of their next leader! The guy belongs in a secure insane asylum.

We cannot wait. Every minute the USA sinking deeper in the muck swamp.

Oh, and did I mention RFKjr who would return us to the Middle Ages in health?

Judy Player's avatar

If there is an election...don't fool yourself. Remember what he has said repeatedly and why they don't care. They feel very secure in their positions. Even if it is not evident, they do have a evil plan which they are implementing.

There have been 110 complaints from most, if not all, branches of the military about the WCN commanders. I expect to see this escalate. I would be enraptured if these loons would just get raptured already so everyone else can stop this killing field.

Even if they sent the odious Scott Jennings to fight in Iran, I still wouldn’t be cheering for this clusterf*ck!

I'd love to see his smug face if they did.

Judy Shaffer's avatar

It's another "never say never" moment for me. In my wildest dreams I could not imagine agreeing with Fuentes, Carlson or Greene on anything. And yet, here I am. Bizarre to say the least. It's almost like Trump is trying to help the Democrats in the midterms - first (and ongoing) Epstein & now the Iran War fomenting further chaos in the Middle East. Wait until the body bags with the "terminally-online, disaffected young men" start coming into Dover AFB (military morgue). I wonder if Trump will show up for the photo op of him welcoming home "fallen warriors?"

Kay-El's avatar

Probably not. “Suckers and losers”, remember?

Lisa's avatar

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Not only that, they're a reproach directly to him. Or, they would be, if he allowed himself to acknowledge it.

Judy Shaffer's avatar

My bad, Denise. Where was my head?!

BJones's avatar

I don't think those "terminally-online, disaffected young men" are rushing to sign up to fight.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

They would have to go drag them out of the basement.

This is perhaps not the *worst* timeliness, given we are still edging relentlessly toward WWIII with morons running our country, but it's still pretty hard to hear the same idiots who BUILT THIS voicing the same concerns we've been having for TEN YEARS NOW and feigning surprise.

Jay Kuo's avatar

No one should trust them.

Judy Player's avatar

He (meaning he and his administration) doesn't care that he may lose his base. He has accomplished what Putin (and maybe Xi) demanded of him: to destroy America.

Talking about mid-terms: he is working his way to declaring martial law and suspending elections so don't think we have it in the bag. Even if everyone were to show their opposition, it won't matter. They will do what they have said they will do and so many decided to ignore the obvious.

Jay Kuo's avatar

He cannot declare martial law. There is no provision for that. Not can he suspend elections. The states run those. He wants us to think he has those powers but he does not.

Riversong Pond's avatar

Keep saying it, Jay, until it breaks through.

Judy Player's avatar

Thanks, Jay. I appreciate your clarification. The administration has not shown much regard for the Constitution. It seems they do as they please without even asking for forgiveness after the fact. Will the states jealously hold onto their rights to conduct fair elections and ensure they happen? I could envision some which would be more than happy to support the administration's platform. Will SCOTUS strike down the administration's lawlessness? Seems they are, in large part, responsible for the administration acting as it does. And, will all of this happen before voters are scared off or worn out? Admittedly, Texas is giving us reason to have confidence in the resilience and determination of voters.

Monica Lee Rich's avatar

"And if the war with Iran drags on, or Trump really does send in U.S. ground forces, his support from the 'no foreign wars' faction could collapse entirely. This would shave a few more critical points off GOP election tallies nationwide, putting not only the House but also the Senate into serious play." Your comment is correct, but the first thing I thought was, AT THE RISK OF WHAT!!? Our CHILDREN!! As the Mother of a U.S. Marine, I want the GOP to lose the midterms, but it all feels quite hollow to even talk about political losses.

Jay Kuo's avatar

It is at best a thin silver lining to the death and war and destruction. I’d far rather Trump not have started this war.
