The Week in Memes and Tweets
Welcome to the end of the week! It’s been a rather on-brand one from the right, from swipes at Dr. Jill Biden, to kicking Rep. Ilhan Omar off the Foreign Relations committee, to Chinese balloons causing red state panic. This edition is freebie thank you to my paid supporters, but it’s available to all for this month. Now, onward to my wrap-up of the week in tweets and memes!
The week started off with a playoff game, but former Fox News host and conservative pain-in-the-ass Megyn Kelly wanted to talk about something unrelated:
Not sure if she was just trolling or if she really believes any of that, but others condemned it and, well, her generally.
Others pointed out the sheer absurdity.
And others the hypocrisy. (Dr. Gorka is no real MD, if that wasn’t clear…)
The internet is dark and full of receipts.
Another personal attack happened over the House as Speaker Kevin McCarthy fulfilled a long promised vendetta to punish Democrats for having removed two Republicans from committees. His next act of revenge was against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), a Muslim woman who is frequently the target of right wing hate and threats for being, um, a Muslim woman. The formerly removed Republican members—Reps. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ)—had threatened actual violence against other government officials in their social media posts. Rep. Omar was accused of anti-semitism based on tweets about Israel a few years back for which she apologized. Her floor speech in response is quite compelling, if you didn’t catch it earlier.
GOP criticism of Omar for being anti-Semitic came from third-in-command and moderate-turned-extremist-Trump-supporter Rep. Elise Stefanik, but was quickly called out for its own double standard:
The “Jew-ish” pathological liar Rep. George Santos (R-NY) also couldn’t help but rise to lie again. With this latest act, he was just moments away from reclaiming that he’s descended from Holocaust survivors.
Speaking of George Anthony Zabrovsky Devolder Santos, here was yet another thing to add to his “web” of lies:
As a Broadway producer myself, I have a lot of questions. The first one being, if you’re going to lie about being one, why pick the biggest flop ever in Broadway history?!
In other exciting news, the Manhattan DA reignited the Trump hush money case with a new grand jury, and so Stormy Daniels was back in the news. Yay! Besides her chosen profession, she’s also awfully good at Twitter
Other people we didn’t expect to hear from also made the news. Kenosha killer Kyle Rittenhouse, who keeps trying to be a darling of the right but who also keeps getting his gigs canceled by venues wanting nothing to do with his lethal brand, is facing legal problems. He was finally served with a complaint for wrongful death, and I’m here for it. The Really American account summed it up best with this zinger.
Ah, the face of an angel.
There was an unusual amount of hate and ignorance directed at the LGBTQ+ community this week, perhaps because of the triumph of the gay love story on the widely watched “The Last of Us” in Episode 3:
The hate account Libs of TikTok appeared not to understand the long cultural significance of another Broadway production, calling it a “new show.” Caraballo stepped to the plate again with this one.
If you have been under a rock, you may not realize that a Chinese “spy balloon” has been drifting across the United States, with a second one floating over Latin America. Those Chinese, so sneaky with their balloons! Guess they figured no one would see them. The freakout by the right, with predictable testosterone laden calls to “shoot it down” (what, with Jewish Space Lasers?) was predictable. But the memes were nearly worth this added wrinkle in U.S.-China relations.
The conspiracies around all this ballooney—including that it took off from Wuhan—simply had to be addressed.
Also, the absurdity of the panic over a balloon, when frankly Chinese intelligence capabilities run a bit deeper.
Folks, the Chinese have us doing TikTok challenges. They don’t need spy balloons. Here’s one of my favorites:
Note that the Pentagon later released a correction. This one was actually a Russian spy satellite.
The Congress, getting down to the Real Business of the People, held a non-binding resolution vote…to condemn socialism. This is a big deal folks, because socialism is evil and must be destroyed, so it should be a no-brainer. Somehow, 100 Democrats didn’t play along. Here’s a bit on why:

In other, better news, accused sex trafficker and horribly burned victim of Greta Thunberg, Andrew Tate, is tweeting from his detention cell in Romania. It’s actually so, so good and satisfying. Try not to laugh, I dare you.
Speaking of men behaving badly, fellas, don’t ever be this guy trying to pretend he’s actually a pilot. (Click through to read it, but try hard to not let your mouth drop open. There a really are people like this.)
