There were a few themes this week in Twitterdom that generally tracked what I’ve been writing about. Here are some gems!
(Reminder: The Week in Tweets and Memes is a thank you to my paid subscribers for their support of my work! So if you’ve been thinking about becoming one, maybe today’s the day! The next few of these weekenders are on the house for everyone…)
The left pushed back not just against the bullying of the far right but also the stupidity and ignorance of the extremists. And it could really feel like whack-a-MAGA these past few days.

Some on the right don’t yet understand that the left actually has had a deeply problematic relationship with the FBI in the past. They then act like the left doesn’t know anything about it, which is pretty hilarious.
The replies were golden:

Getting the FBI’s history wrong was one thing. Getting an iconic best selling album cover wrong was another thing entirely. This is what happened on Facebook when Pink Floyd updated their profile picture to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Dark Side of the Moon. The MAGA anti-woke crowd lost their shit.

Exasperation continued to manifest, understandably, over the right’s exhausting messaging:

And some were, well, just over it, especially when the “anti-tax” GOP proposed a 30 percent national tax on everything we ever buy:

(If you missed his Twitter name, it’s worth a re-look!)
Speaking of George Kitara Ravache Dolezal (Dolezal—that takes a pop culture moment!) Santos, he is happily still making headlines with each new incredible, and in this case FABULOUS, revelation. The newest is that he was a drag queen in Brazil. Now, I love a good drag act, but not when it comes from someone who pushes “groomer” propaganda, so for his hypocrisy he deserves all the shade. Here’s some good service:
(That’s two amazing tweets this week from Mrs. Betty Bowers, if you’re counting.)
Santos’s denials earned him some formerly friendly fire:

It wasn’t all about his former life in heels for Santos. He apparently is truly pond scum, too, for this horrific story broken by local news outlet Patch in Oyster Bay, New York:

That combined with Ms. Kitara Ravache lead to the new standard for 2023 headlines. This one is actually real:
Oh, and yes you were, and yes you did, George. I mean Anthony. I mean Kitara.
The Supreme Court was in the news again for running its own lame investigation that of course turned up nothing about who leaked the Dobbs decision to the press last summer. We all have our suspicions, and The Onion delivered my own succinctly:
Gov. Ron DeSantis, true to form, banned AP African American Studies in high schools within the state of Florida, and this remark from one of my favorite commentators struck me.

On the lighter side of things. Some potpourri on modern work and living was in the mix, too, this week.
For folks who are tired of late stage capitalism, another taste of our post-pandemic world:

On the more social side of things, young love like hope sprang eternal. Read the napkin closely.
Two years hasn’t taught him much.

In fairness, when my family bought a bread maker in Beijing, our maid put all the ingredients in it as instructed, then put the entire machine inside the oven to bake it.
Finally, if you’ve ever doodled spirals in class, this thread’s for you. By the end, I was giggling like the actual silly, unserious person I am, but maybe it’s just my own nerdiness.

The replies!
Have a great weekend! And don’t let your own life spiral out.

Thanks Jay for multiple “LOL”s🤣🤣🤣I can’t get enough of the one about cleaning the oven😝
this post every week is worth the price of admission - and we get daily analyses too! I was pondering on the Pink Floyd cover conflated with Ron DeS's iron grip on what get taught in Florida. Wonder when he's going to outlaw prisms?
