A crisis can also be an opportunity. We've seen the worst. We've survived it. And we learned valuable lessons from our experiences. We can and will stand up and defeat the evil too.
For some of us, our parents and grandparents lived through worse than is heading our way, and they overcame all their trials. That's why they were the Greatest Generation. We can handle this. And we will! Thanks for your clear-eyed optimism, Carol.
And many survived because people were willing to put their own lives on the line to help them.
I hope I can be as brave as my mother's cousin who saved over 400 people in the Netherlands from the Nazis during the war by issuing them new state IDs that changed their birthdates, names, or religion so they could evade the scrutiny of Nazis. He worked in a city hall and was in charge of issuing ID papers.
The papers he gave out were official, stamped paperwork, not forgeries, so no one who had one was ever caught.
When he was interviewed many years later he said he knew he's be instantly shot if discovered but felt like he owed it to his fellow citizens to do whatever he could to thwart the Nazis.
My heart goes out to you and to your relatives. One of the dearest, sweetest people I ever knew was a neighbor who introduced me to the concept of a 'friendship garden' where people exchange plants from their own gardens with their neighbors. She and her husband were both lucky enough to survive the Holocaust, and I never met a more determinedly optimistic person in my life.
She is adorable! I became a grandmother twice within 5 weeks. I have two granddaughters, born five weeks apart - one to my son and daughter-in-law and one to my daughter and son-in-law. Those two are the light and joy of my life and are what keep me going.
She is a cutie pie no doubt…how beautiful she is! Such a perfect reason to get up and fight the good fight! In appreciation for your inspiring work… Leslie
Yes, these are the most important things right now, over the chaos. i love that you went and got a sepia picture of her! (just kidding, the resemblance is definitely there, all she needs is a little more hair and a few more teeth and it's absolutely twins!) She's so cute ♡
Beautiful, and definitely worth prioritizing over the chaos sure to follow
She is a picture of joy and such a compelling reason to find the good in our world ❤️
Your baby is adorable! Rest and enjoy.

And those of us with relatives who survived the Holocaust learned all kinds of ways to resist.

She is so adorable and cute. Pets and children (I am a substitute teacher) are some of the few reasons I have dragged myself out of bed right now.

I agree, Jay, love is the means and the end and everything in between.
