Thanks, Jay! I really needed this today. I'm glad my alma mater, Stanford, finally joined Harvard in refusing to bow to the bully! Can't wait to see more!

Harvard is older than the USA itself, At no point did any President ever attempt to force any University to do anything for political reasons and take over them, as this President is taking over businesses, law firms, Universities, Media, all to make sure they all do as he says. That is not the USA.

A dictator, who can’t hire one competent cabinet member, wants to tell Harvard to make “seeping changes to governance?” Harvard is probably unique in its ability to afford to give the Dictator a permanent middle finger salute. I hope they continue to stand with it, they’re showing more courage than many big law firms!

The Trump Administration is a dictatorship not a presidency. If you disagree with the president's lies then you go to jail. If you tell the truth then it's criminal. Trump is also trying to get rid of the rule of law!

I will be wearing this "Don't blame me, I voted for her" t-shirt the next four years 👇

I'm so disappointed in my alma mater, Columbia U (technically Barnard College). They are Neville Chamberlain and Harvard is Winston Churchill!

In their defense, just like all of us, they are learning as we go in how to deal with the bully in chief.

Do you suppose Columbia has a psychology department, School of Law, professors in both that would have been consulted about the nature of LOTUS and what he's doing? Do you honestly think there is no one at Columbia qualified to advise the university about this shitshow? How about layers or staff that could advise on the probably consequences of capitulation?

me too. And for those who sneer about Stanford's elitism--it offers free tuition for students from "low income families"--low income being a family income (without good stuff like a trust fund) of under $150K. Under $100K you get free tuition PLUS room and board.

Harvard standing up to the thug is a BFD. This leading institution set a major example of courage and conviction and laid down a marker. Where do you stand. Will you and your institution break the addiction to money and power to fight to preserve your country's democracy for your children and your children's children. Or will you bow to the bloated, grotesque, mad orange tyrant and watch as people suffer and die for his sadistic pleasure so that you can continue to get your fix of money and power. The choice has finally been laid bare by Harvard and other institutions that are finally standing up to the bully.

Wow, you hit the nail on the head! I loved this article because it truly resonates with what I was hoping, deep down, would happen. I was hoping he'd get carried away and blow it! I know we aren't out of the woods yet, but I see a glimmer of light through the trees. Thank you for a well written, hopefully prophetic, post today, Jay Kuo!

BTW... I go to my 5th rally this year on this Saturday and I will carry with me a sign I've carried at every rally. I made it in 2017 for my marches against trump's first administration. It says "STAND UP.... SPEAK OUT- COURAGE IS CONTAGIOUS"

The fact that you said that too... made me smile.

Thank you for this affirmation and reminder that standing up to this felon is working. As an American of Asian ancestry, I suspect it’ll be just a matter of time before he attacks Chinese—and we become the next targets of his hate-filled followers. Stay safe!

Reuters, Bloomberg, AND the AP now booted out of the rotation for pool coverage. Of course, in tRump's mind, this action satisfies Judge McFadden's ruling about discriminating because viewpoint against the AP, by tossing out ALL the wire services, and so, Judge, see, we're not singling out the AP...nyah-nyah!

Wouldn't it be AWESOME if we didn't have to see any videos or photos of him anywhere? We know FOX won't do anything - bit if all other networks got in on this? And just.... stopped covering him? Provide the textual descriptions of the events, but no interviews, no press conferences, no photos, nothing. If one day he walked into the press room - and it was empty, save for a couple of poor FOX schmucks in the front row.

I believe this is correct. If all of the news outlets refused to participate in his dog and pony shows unless all were welcome how would he get his fix? You can't believe a word he says and a bully has no power if no one can hear him.

Trump is not negotiating tariffs with other countries. He is negotiating exemptions with American companies. He has already given several out. What did he get back in return? We don't know, but Jay's mob boss analogy probably gives us a strong clue. It's not something for us. It's something for him.

Individuals, partnerships and corporations standing up to Trump are a good thing, but collective action would be more effective. It’s time to start thinking about and planning a general strike to shut this government down.

Jay, could you write something about the farmers who need a bailout again. Yes, they made bad bad decisions on voting for Trump but i dislike that Vance is apparently buying up farms. I am sure that not all farmers voted for Trump but are being painted with the same brush. How should we be thinking about this issue?

We have moral clarity; we just need to act. HERE'S SOMETHING SIMPLE WE CAN DO: use 5calls.org, a website that makes it easy to phone Senators and Representatives. The site provides phone numbers-- and even a list of pressing issues. There's a newsletter, too. ALSO: 202-224-3121, the Capitol switchboard, reaches EVERY person in Congress; just say the name you want to reach. (If you don't know the name, say the location.) LET'S OVERWHELM CONGRESS WITH OUR CALLS!
