It terrifies me that Democratic leadership think a "return to normalcy" is good politically and the country. In 2020, normalcy gave us Merrick Garland's timid prosecution of Trump and assuming he and his lackeys would operate in good faith.
Normalcy also sounds like minimal investigation and prosecution of Trump and his cronies, like they plan to say "Trump's pardons and SCOTUS' partisanship ties our hands, so we have to let it all go."

I think that the changes that are in the wind are going to blow very hard. I’m pleased with Indivisible’s strategy. They are pushing progessive primary challengers in districts that are solidly blue but have a centrist Dem incumbent. This contrasts with people who directed all their wrath at Democrats like Joe Manchin who was very centrist but, being from West Virginia, was insanely liberal relative to the voters of his state. Without Manchin, Biden would not have controled the Senate for the first 2 years of his term, and that’s when Biden got most of his accomplishments done.
So that’s why I’m with you. Democrats in power will be a significant improvement, even if I wish they would do more
I'm not sure the critical axis is progressive vs. centrist. IMO it is whether they believe it's business as usual vs. we are in the midst of authoritarian break through. Some of the fighters in Congress are not exactly part of the progressive caucus!
With the typically anemic turn-out rates for primaries, I think it is entirely possible that we could get some epic primary upsets if the grassroots gets behind the challengers and actually show up for the primary!
As we have seen with some of the special election upsets, candidates with a good ground game who understand what the voters in the district want can still win even if they get badly outspent. Although this is clearly an apples-to-oranges comparison since a special election by definition doesn't have an incumbent.
I just wish some of these dinosaurs who aren't up to the job would retire! (And I am speaking as a senior myself!)
