Yesterday, I rather nervously asked for your support and patronage in the hope that I would be able to continue publishing The Status Kuo instead of having to take a time-consuming lawyer gig. Despite wanting to hide my head like Hudson here (I really don’t like asking for help…) I was delighted and grateful that so many of you responded with such positivity and generous support, including a few Democracy Defenders at the highest level. I’m already more than two-thirds of the way to my internal goal!
It now looks likely that I can continue to do this work each weekday, as well as continue my regular news updates on social media, without being financially irresponsible. That is an incredible burden lifted on both me and my family, and I owe all of you who opened your wallets a debt of gratitude.
A few questions came up that I can now address here.
It’s still free! I am not putting my newsletter behind a paywall, and supporting with a monthly or annual pledge is completely voluntary. Unfortunately, the platform only allows one level of monthly subscription. If that is too steep for your budget but you want to support me later in a smaller way, please consider buying my book when it comes out!
Other Ways to Support: You can support monthly or by annual subscription, or if you’d like to give more than $60 but not quite as much as the highest level, you can select “Democracy Defender” then manually input your support amount. You can also gift The Status Kuo for the holidays by choosing “Other subscription options...” at the bottom of the page. I hear I make a great gift for family members! (Except your Trumpy uncle…)
No PayPal option: I looked everywhere but unfortunately did not see a PayPal option for payment. I am writing a sternly worded letter to the Substack admins about this, so know that your indignation is being voiced and your interests are being safeguarded.
If I can hit my goals, I will be able to pay for a regular editor and proofreader, which will spare me from having to make corrections all day long in response to your polite but firm corrections. Typos truly are my worst enema!
I’m so looking forward to what the future has in store for this community and my writings. Once again, thank you for your generosity and encouragement.
Yours in service,
Jay
You know I typically agree with you but I really feel like gifting a subscription to my Trumpy brother would be good for him... If he reads it. Lol.
I lol’d at “enema”.
