After he cancelled presentation of his "irrefutable report" and debate participation, he may be scared enough to listen to his lawyers for once. I would start your countdown at 20.

Trump followers are on a sugar high now.

They will hard crash when these folks hit the booth.

Gen-Z, Millennials, Women, LGBTQIA, ALL OF US.

T-shirt is BIGLY GREAT!!!🤪

It is only the die-hard cult followers. He has lost many supporters.

Only your lightening-quick legal brain (and talented writing) could manage a Legal Lightning Round, Jay! Bravo!! I LOVED this format, and your summations/evaluations were supremely (SCOTUS, anyone?) easy to understand. Thank you.

I do happen to be admitted to practice before SCOTUS! May I never have to do so again lol

"She campaigned, and is continuing to campaign, and raise money on this WITCH HUNT. This is in strict coordination with Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ. It is all about ELECTION INTERFERENCE." Excuse me but a) isn't this what YOU are doing and b) isn't that what YOU are in trouble for?!

This is standard GOP tactics - accuse your opponent of all the things that you are actually doing, have done, or would be doing if you could

This is the second D of Distract, Deflect and Deny, which is their usual MO

EVERY Republican accusation is a confession.

Expand full comment

“Excuse me but a) isn't this what YOU are doing”

Of course it is. EVERY REPUBLICAN ACCUSATION IS A CONFESSION. Every one.

Their only playbook is to accuse others of what they themselves are doing.

Expand full comment

PROJECTION, it is what Trump and the Republicans do best.

I am still waiting for that press conference, where Trump had promised to reveal some earth-shattering evidence proving his innocence. My popcorn is getting stale.

Expand full comment

I believe his lawyers said something to the effect of "if you do this we quit" and he announced that his event was cancelled and the "report" would be submitted as evidence in the trial instead. So, as with the health plan, don't hold your breath as that would be a safety issue. 💙

Expand full comment

Ah, that explains it.... Thank you for the update. Definitely not going to hold my breath - suffocated purple is a ghastly color on most people. :-p

But first they would have to ask permission of the court to withdraw.

Add "and good luck finding more lawyers that are willing to work for you!!"

Exactly, I believe he is in the slim pickings aisle, despite having created more jobs for attorneys needing attorneys than possibly anyone in the history of the world. 😎

He’ll have that press conference right after he reveals his “better, very much better” replacement for Obamacare.

Remember that we’re still waiting for that one.

Expand full comment

Remember “nobody knew healthcare was so complicated”? Trump’s excuse for his Obamacare replacement taking so long! 😵‍💫

Expand full comment

To be fair, Trump finds drinking water complicated. So him failing to understand healthcare shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Seems to me Georgia is the ideal place to stick trump in jail for violation of his bail conditions.

1) It is a really rotten jail, reportedly--any gold in the toilets is likely uncleaned urine and

2) it would be really hard to blame the Biden administration for this. GOP would try, of course--but she isn't in the Biden Administration, no matter what they screech. He's basically reduced to racist and misogynist "twutheets"

LOVE that she specifically added social media stuff.

If Trump is sent to jail for violations of his pre-trial bond conditions, it would be Judge McAfee who sends him there. He’s a Republican Kemp appointee!

Expand full comment

But we can't assume that just because a Republican appointed him he'd put up with crap. Who SETS the bond conditions? Prosecutor or judge? I honestly don't know.

Expand full comment

The agreement was signed by Willis. I think the judges signature was also on the document. So like it's the prosecutor and defense negotiate, the judge signs off on it.

Expand full comment

The judges in his other trials should updated their protective orders to "What she said!".

If Meadows was doing campaign work (he was), then that is also a violation of the Hatch Act.

I know we don’t enforce it anymore but that administration was running roughshod all over the Hatch Act.

Expand full comment

Speaking from 41 years federal service, Hatch act is only for us working stiffs.

Expand full comment

Oh, to see him in jail ...

Expand full comment

As they say on Family Feud, “Good answer! Good answer!”

Expand full comment

Trump DOES want to be held in contempt by the Judge. It won't materially affect him, and it will further the false narrative that he is being persecuted.

It won't matter if the Judge points to verifiable facts proving Trump violated the agreement. He will lie to his base, telling them he's been found in contempt ONLY in order to silence him. His base will believe it.

Expand full comment

Exactly. Trump will continue to lie about being persecuted no matter what any judge or prosecutor does.

Which is why his reaction should never figure into any “Should we revoke his bail?” question.

Democrats have, unfortunately, been overly concerned about Republican reactions for ages. “Oh, we can’t call them out on what they’ve done. If we do they’ll say mean things about us and become uncooperative.” News flash: They’re going to say mean things and be disruptive no matter what you do. So stop using that as an excuse to not do the right thing.

Expand full comment

So? His cult will believe anything, no matter the truth.

Like the Legal Lightning Round!!

Since I started following your cogent analysis I am much more able to intelligently discuss these issues. Some of my colleagues are getting annoyed.

Two remarkable things:

1) They’re just plainly going for “Let’s get back into the White House and then we can make this all go away.”

2) Trump still believes in this bizarro notion that “If I say something out loud in a public forum it DOESN’T count as evidence of anything.” Then again, I guess he’s drawing on his experience with the “liberal” media.

Also: “Many focused on the dollar amount, which is a pittance for Donald Trump ...”

No it’s not. Donald Trump is flat broke. Every dime that comes in goes out the door to Putin, MBS and/or any number of Chinese bankers.

Michael Beschloss posted on X, formerly know as Twitter, a wanted poster from 1865 for Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy. The crime was insurrection. The reward was $100,000 in GOLD.

In today's dollars $200,000 would be $3,750,000. That should have been TFG's bond amount.

That would be excellent. He’d have to spend the night in jail, since he doesn’t have that.
