I did my part voting for Judge Janet on Tuesday and I encouraged my boyfriend to come with me a vote too. I plan on doing the same on April 4th. Go Janet!!
You should check out the Minocqua Brewing Company’s outstanding efforts to save democracy in Wisconsin. They are located in a very red town in a red state but also in an area that benefits from lots of tourist dollars from blue states. Founder Kirk Bangstad is outspoken, committed and fearless in his efforts and deserves recognition for what he does, from his PAC to fundraising to buying billboard space to further the cause.
Considering how important this election is and the fact that Ron Johnson was reelected, I see too much red in that shade of purple 😀. I grew up in Waukesha County and would dearly love to see my home state flip to solidly blue. Tony Evers does give one hope, however.
RJ won by only 27k votes with likely voter suppression in Milwaukee where I live. It’s the gerrymandering that gives this state the appearance of being more red than it is. Tony Evers is a life saver for us.
It’s always so disheartening to see how close these elections end up being, considering how despicable the candidates are, not only in WI but all over the country. I agree that gerrymandering is one of the main reasons, however, and hope that Wisconsin is able to pull this one off. Despite appearances, I am an optimist at heart.
If anyone is looking for ways to help us win, whether by donating to the best grassroots orgs working to get out the vote in Wisconsin, or by signing up to postcard or call voters, I've got a Wisconsin Supreme Court Election doc with loads of links, and I'll be updating it regularly. It's all hands on deck time! https://www.notion.so/ADOPT-WISCONSIN-ecdecfdd7d3648d5bcf703f30f9feadc
"But a win April ...". Spot on Jay. Michigan has made very important due process, state Constitutional amendments that were 'over due' changes to the small 'd' democratic process in the UP & LP. Go Wolverines.
I live in Georgia and because Ben Wikler rocks, I donate every month to help Wisconsin elect dems statewide and to help elect Judge Janet to the State Supreme Court!
Thank you for helping us care too, Jay. Democracy works from the bottom up. We have to care about every election, not just the ones that happen every four years.
Thanks for turning our heads not oy to the looming contest in Wisconsin but also to the crucial impact of state-level elections.
The Republican playbook opening, center and postscript is to hurl money at the problem- there is always that financially-fed tipping point at which victory seems a downhill slide into home
But, as you've rightly indicated, let's not overlook the import of non-participation and fatalism, and together we can work to defend our flanks against all of the boundless chicanery.
Wisconsin resident here. Thank you for writing about the political insanity in my state. Although the strategy was concocted long ago, it was under Gov Scott Walker and his ilk that a lot of this b.s. was implemented. Act 10 is a travesty. Those of us south of Hwy 29 (the imaginary boundary that tells you that you are up nort’) and away from the Republican suburbs that surround Milwaukee know that Walker ruined much that was good about this state, especially its progressive backbone founded a century ago by Robert LaFollette. America, do not give up on Wisconsin. Help us win this fight.
Thanks for reminding those of us that reside in fairly 'Safe' mostly Blue States (I'm up in the High Country of Colorado), that there are some very critical elections going on in states where Democracy is in Deep Jeopardy. April 4th is going to be a real "Nail-biter" ... Yikes !!!

WI is a purple state, not a red state. 😁💙

I’ve done work with Ben through Team Takei. He does indeed rock!

We must claw it all back, one vote at a time.

I, am not & do not plan on becoming the Writer of "Marcia's Substack" - Sorry.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention! Sent some $ to support her!
Thanks for the link to the donation site...DONE!
Even though I live in CA, just sent $50 to her campaign. https://www.janetforjustice.com/
Jay and community,
You know how pervasive and recognizable those awful MAGA hats, to the extent that we reflexively cringe at the color red...?
Well, it's high time we owned our own visible wear in defense of democracy....and proceeds could be relegated to awesome causes.
Thoughts?
Whatever Tom Paine used to wear ... but, it was what was under Tom's hat that was important: Common Sense.
I live in Pennsylvania but I just donated to Judge Janet's campaign.
I am writing letters through Vote Forward for this race
