If Trump is so concerned about security that he needs a $1B for a ballroom, why does he go to all these events when he could watch it on a giant TV at home?

Stephen Brady's avatar

Because he gets off on people making a fuss over him so it inconveniences as many people as possible. The thunderous boos are the result of the crowds disdain. Compare this to the video on YouTube of the crowds’ reaction to Obama at a Bulls’ game… tRump is a nasty, self-centered ass and deserved the opprobrium heaped on him. That and a lot of people would like to plug him. It is a dishonor he has produced on his own.

Thank you, thank you once again to the Billionaires, millionaires, corporations, techbros, oligarchs, Christian Nationalists and Putin for setting this orange blight loose on our country and the world. Trump does indeed ruin everything, may he ruin you all too!!!

Your last line there is a bit confusing but I’ll assume you mean ruin the oligarchs?

Carol Taylor Boyd's avatar

I listed a lot more than just oligarchs

He was invited by Knicks owner James Dolan. Seems like he deserves a round of unending boos for actually donating to trump. Boo to Dolan.

The first thing that struck me was: they have THAT MUCH security at the Knicks game and what at the Correspondents dinner? Just sayin' and wonderin'. I guess there wasn't a ballroom to sell.

20,000 ticket holders were wildly inconvenienced, thousands were denied celebrations outside MSG, millions were lost by local businesses, millions of taxpayer $ was spent on security, all so a demented old man could nap at a game he didn't care about in a venue full of people who hate him. What people don't understand is that he doesn't mind the Boos and it doesn't hurt him at all. All his narcissistic brain hears and sees is a venue full of people reacting to him. It doesn't matter that they hate him; he is thrilled with all those people making all kinds of noise JUST FOR HIM.

The thing about trump crashing major sports events is only made possible by far-right or trump-adjacent wealthy team owners extending "invitations" to ensure access for business reasons. And sports commissioners, pro-league presidents, and others of that ilk simply give in to trump's self-insertions for political reasons — he wants in, who are we to refuse? — or because they are active supporters, e.g., Dana White.

The worst example has been FIFA and the monstrously corrupt Gianni Infantino, who seemingly cannot do enough to please trump, even to the point of allowing the 2026 WC to be a gigantic swindle on fans and host cities, and to look the other way as DHS eliminates thousands of team supporters from "shithole" countries because trump.

Can't even begin to imagine what the Orange Maggot will be asking of the IOC and the USOC before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics — the requisite "Peace Prize" as the warm-up? trump branding of the Olympic Village? Gaaaaaaah!

And I’m sure tRump didn’t pay for that box seat so it is another emollument.

Saw a clip on TV last night when his motorcade was arriving with crowds chanting "New York hates you!"

I don't live in New York or follow the Knicks, but think what trump did by attending at the last minute was despicable, and the ultimate of narcissism for what he did to inconvenience all the thousands who just wanted to enjoy that game last night.

Susan's avatar

I believe that's why he attended, to inconvenience New Yorkers and put himself in their face.

He knows they hate him.

Barbara (NJ)'s avatar

Yup! A photo op and a chance to give New York the finger for essentially running him out of town

One can only hope that "The Trump Effect" lasts no longer than the single game for the Knicks ... in the same way that we all must hope that what he has done to the country does not last beyond the mid-term elections. He was booed in Madison Square Garden on Monday, please let's boo him in November!

Walter's avatar

Not only is he a pathological liar, he has selective hearing also.

Stephen Brady's avatar

But if a Woman reporter asks him about it, get ready for a profanity-laced tirade.

The term is “sportswashing.”

And I hope that magat Knicks owner gets everything he deserves too!

Appreciate the summary of Trump's foul play.

#ETTD in a nutshell… of course the Nicks lost. Electing this clown a second time is like pleading, “kill us now please— just make it painless” to which he replies with his smirk, “hey, you knew I was a snake when you took me in."
