I too have noticed some great reporting from RS, as evidenced by the trumpers who whine about the magazine sticking with music. Enter Jason Aldean.

Rock music has always been associated with politics as well as other genres. All those songs in the 60’s and 70’s were often protest songs.

Okay, to add further to the web of intrigue surrounding the whole election denial and subversion attempts, off the top of my mind one of the Project 2025 advisory board members is the "Public Interest Legal Foundation" of which its primary mission statement is as follows:

"The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public interest law firm dedicated to election integrity. The Foundation exists to assist states and others to aid the cause of election integrity and fight against lawlessness in American elections."

One member of its current board of directors is Cleta Mitchell who is the Chairman of the board, a name everyone should become familiar with, as I full well expect that we will be hearing more about her in the future in connection with the entire fiasco, one of the former directors up until September 19, 2022 was Dr. John C. Eastman who sometime between the 19th and September 25, 2022 was removed from the board.

I have to wonder just how wide and deep Jack Smith's investigation has reached.

That is likely a fight for another day.

Let's not forget about Chuck Grassley suggesting Mike Pence might not preside over the electoral vote count. Leaving him, as president pro-tempore of the Senate, in charge of counting the votes.

Expand full comment

It remains a mystery as to what exactly went down with that.

Yeah, it seems like they knew Pence wasn't into the whole insurrection thing, but Grassley was.

Could be why ol' Chuck just released the FBI FD-2023 Form, that the FBI told him not to. The one with the regurgitated Rudy lies.

Thanks Jay. Concise, all the facts we know but in quick and easy format.

Thumbs up for RS. The combination of facts of this post sickens me. God Bless the framers of the Constitution. After reading this, I have two reactions. One is remembering an animated meme in which a cat is seen swiping a toy image of trump off a shelf. The other is the thought that dropping him into the ocean at an un-swimmable distance from shore might settle my stomach. And for those unwoke who are still deluded by him, "May God Have Mercy On Your Soul."

re: "God Bless the framers of the Constitution"; yeah, well, don't forget that they're the same folks who stuck us with the cockamamie Electoral College in the first place, just to mollify the slave states ('cause a chunk of their population had been reduced by 2/5 per person, ya know). That's not to mention the whole 75% of states having to agree to amend the Constitution, which will FOR-FRIGGIN'-EVER stick us with the E. C.

Meow.....and your better idea is?

Expand full comment

Well, I made two statements and your question is pretty nonspecific. So I'll pick the one I want. Meow. It's the electoral college (henceforth referred to as E. C.)...

I've voted in 13 presidential elections in 5 different states. In only 2 of those elections did my vote "count," because the state's E. C. votes went to a candidate for whom I did not vote. How many people say to themselves, "Why should I vote when it doesn't make a difference"?

While other countries have versions of the E. C., no other is as biased toward low-population districts as that in the U.S. In the first (1790) Census, the population ratio of Virginia to Delaware (largest to smallest population) was about 12:1. In the 2020 census, the ratio of California to Wyoming (largest to smallest) was about 68:1 -- if Electoral College votes represented the population accurately, California would have 204 electoral votes to Wyoming's 3. Did the Founders ever imagine such a vast difference in population among the states? Hard to say...

If we want to keep the electoral college (supposedly to prevent demagogues from taking power -- although we know how well *that* works), it needs to be reimagined. Say, for instance, each state has one E. C. vote per congressional district. Instead of awarding E. C. votes based on the myriad gerrymandered congressional districts, award them proportionally (like Nebraska and Maine do now). The math will still be sloppy, but nowhere near as sloppy as it is when 577,000 people in Wyoming get 3 E. C. votes and 39 million in California get 54.

As for the second possible "Meow," when the Founders wrote the structure for amending the Constitution, the electorate comprised while male landowners -- about as monolithic as you can get. You no longer need to be white, male, or own property to vote. Any one of those three variables means that it's increasingly difficult to reach the required 75% uber-super majority to amend the Constitution. While a simple majority for amendments has proven unworkable both in states and other countries, a more reasonable 60% would be more attainable. However, I would caution against allowing state legislatures to decide for their states -- you know, the whole gerrymandered legislative districts again (note that I've twice lived in a state considered among the most gerrymandered in the USA).

Satisfied? If not, then let's hear your ideas. Purrr.....

"Hotels" in the headline grabbed me. In discussions with colleagues with whom I work in hospitality and meetings about the Moms of Liberty and other like meetings held in hotels whose DEI policies conflict w/ the groups' advocacy, this then calls into question what actions take place in hotels (or other venues) that may raise issues. Yeah yeah, free speech, capitalism, all that allows hotels to book individuals or meetings as they see fit. I wonder if or how the hotels will be in question.

I watched on a live feed from Trump's "viewing party" post on that January 6th, as rioters physically assaulted Capitol Police, damaged property and defaced and breached the Capitol. The President appeared to be actually salivating at the unfolding drama, and Don Jr. came right up to the screen and said "Isn't this great? This is f**king great!". No one in the President's immediate party seemed disturbed or worried or even surprised at how things were progressing (actually deteriorating). If this were a movie, there would be no doubt in the audience about what was going on. It's a shame and it's troubling that there are still so many fellow citizens who don't get the criminality and the great danger that this whole debacle posed for our country. The rest of the world is watching and judging and making their own decisions about how to deal with us in the foreseeable future.

Question about the MI16 (the 16 arrested Michigan fake electors) - are these high level political political operatives? (It seems so) and how will the Republican Party in MI be changed after their felony convictions? And will the same drama and collapse play out in 5 other states?

My State of Michigan threw out and muffled many, many of those Republicans and now the blue has a strong majority in both State houses.

Our newly elected politicians are making great changes in the life of our residents!!

Michigan is an example of what can be done if we deliver a blue wave in 2024!

Imagine if they all went down. What would be left of the Republican Party? (I miss the principals that my republican friends used to have).

Imagine if the gerrymandering ended. And statehood for DC and PR.
