In their eagerness to suppress minority votes, in particular the surge of Democratic voters who used mail-in ballots for the first time in 2020 due to the pandemic, Republican lawmakers in Florida rushed to pass a law that placed obstacles in the path of absentee voting, including a requirement that anyone who wants to vote by mail needs to re-register every election cycle, meaning every two years.
The Florida GOP is apparently unaware of how "The Law of Unintended Consequences" works in politics: for all they hope to gain by their voter suppression schemes, there will be an equal amount of reaction and pushback from the Democrats. A large group of pissed off senior citizens in booted from the voting roles in Florida will be a force to be reckoned with! Disenfranchised Active Duty folks will also be a loud political voice. According to the 'Law of Unintended Consequences, every new precedent in GOP voter suppression will result in unforeseen secondary and tertiary effects - AKA blow back.
We can only hope they screw themselves out of jobs. In the meantime, the voting rights act needs to be passed.
