An alleged assault by a Congressmember, multiple versions of the official police report, and an unsigned warrant for an arrest raise some troubling questions.
Update: I had a brain fart this morning and confused Ed Martin with Emil Bove (both E names), who is the lawyer who made the decision on the Eric Adams case. I have removed that paragraph, with apologies.
Jay,Our infamous Fl politician owns a munitions company, positions himself as a defender of police and bragged about supplying tear gas to LE to use against BLM protesters.Oh, and he also gifted his colleagues with hand grenades sporting the GOP logo.
She is scared to report because he is violent. I know the feeling. I hope she has the courage to get away from him NOW. I regret EVERYTIME I deferred to file a report. The violence only continues.
I've had multiple women in my family in this situation and every time I see it repeated in the world I want to be sick. And because this asshole is an important vote for the fascist party, they're going to protect him even more than usual.
And can you blame her. Maybe you need to be a woman finding herself in this position to have some understanding. The deck is stacked against her and she probably has gone into survival mode. She has ample reason to be scared in this political environment. The fact that he will be protected at all costs leaves her completely vulnerable.
yeah. Someone has pointed out (Jay? Jeff? TCinLA? ) that trump on Ukraine is a claim that it is a country that dared to go out at night in clothes deemed inappropriate
Why would you comment: “Maybe you need to be a woman finding herself in this position to have some understanding.” It sounds like the person you’re responding to is a woman who has been in that situation. Are you responding to the right comment?
I get it. Women get scared, he would probably have some goons beat her up or murder her. If you don't understand go volunteer at a battered women's shelter. This is their life. When you try to leave is when you get killed.
I'm not sure why your comment is directed at me. It makes no sense.
And for the record I have LIVED experience as a DV survivor and have worked with nonprofits as a DV survivor professional to help survivors and their children get the help they need.
I was responding to Julie who I assumed is a woman. Since she said she knew the feeling, I assumed she had experienced an incident herself. If you follow the lines on the left providing a guideline of comments and responses, you’ll see that my response was to her and was posted prior to Tristram’s comment. Why so defensive?
I find that this kind of confusion comes when we use the pronoun "you" as a generic pronoun. It causes some people to read it as a comment directed at them. I am training myself to eliminate that pronoun from all my social media comments, even if (especially if) I am wanting to address a person directly because of something they said that I thought to be outrageous.
I can understand that and usually I use “one”. However. Especially in this case I think the person was looking for a reason to be upset along with being too lazy to at least make an attempt at why my statement in actuality made sense. I’ve been on social media since AOL chat rooms and realize how easily it is to misinterpret a statement, so I pay special attention when someone makes an unclear statement to look at it in context of the conversation. If I’m still confused I’ll ask in a way without trying to be presumptuous what the meant. It is easy to overlay one’s bias onto a statement. The responder to my statement seemed to understand that my statement would make better sense if it was addressed to a woman which in fact it was. So instead of asking me who I was responding to straight out, asked me why I would make such a statement that would be made to a woman. It struck me as being a bit presumptuous, and insulting. I also didn’t get the impression this person thought I was in fact addressing them personally. Anyway, not sure this is a hill I want to die on, though it appears I’m trying to 😁
I agree. It was an over-reach. Your comment highlights the double bind abused people find themselves in. Extricating oneself is never that easy and can result in death. Where did this national sickness come from? It seems to be getting worse.
I think even women who have never been in that situation can understand. The GOP/MAGA is ruthless. She would never have been able to find employment in political circles and would have been hounded by the maga mob.
It would have been nice if she could have stood tall and spoke her truth and kept speaking it. But I get it. There is too much downside for her. She may end the relationship though. I hope she does for her own safety.
There will be very little justice in America as long as the misogynistic and racist GOP feels entitled to do whatever they want in their personal and public lives, knowing that they will face little or no consequences.
We cannot be the first to take up arms and use violence. Not only would it be a totally unequal fight, it would also lose us any support from the masses, those Americans who voted for Trump, who voted third party or who didn’t vote. Those of us who are now in the resistance are going to depend on the American people feeling the pain with us as the economy collapses, as they see their fellow Americans, their sons and daughters shot down in the streets, as find their rights taken away as well, as they come to understand that elections have consequences and that they chose poorly.
Wait up! This isn’t about politics. Republicans are establishing an open season on women. Law enforcement action/non action is facilitating this. Many women will continue to suffer physically and emotionally at the hands of men. This should never be part of the political game.
Yes! The wording from Mills' office is very telling. He "denies any wrongdoing". He doesn't deny breaking the law. He also labels this police investigation of a reported crime as "a private matter".
Guys like this honestly don't see assault of a loved one as wrongdoing. They see it as a household issue, or a "private matter". This Christian Nationalism crap WILL MAKE THIS MINDSET WAY WORSE.
Absolutely correct. The misogyny is increasing out there. Men have been both emboldened and encouraged to treat women as property who they can control and assault without consequences. The increase of misogyny has a lot to do with the Republican party’s public words and actions. Wasn’t the theme song at their hatefest/RNC convention “It’s a man’s world?!”
The GOP opposition to women in the military fits well into the MAGA male dominant misogynistic world view. By not teaching women fighting skills they keep women physically vulnerable. Women of all ages need to look into taking self defense classes. Even if you never need to use those physical skills, it helps a woman to have more self confidence and to stand up to psychological bullying as well.
Well....corruption in every nook and cranny. Ed Martin and so many attorneys have become hacks for a felon. I'd like a list of these consigliari from Bove to Eastman, to Martin etc, and where they got their degrees and who they may have clerk's for. I am appalled that Aileen Cannon, the biggest trump suck-up is a U of Michigan graduate.
Just wondering out loud how shaky my rep, Elise Stefanik's, near-term future is right now. There's going to be more to vote on than just the budget, and it looks like they need her more than ever.
Mixed feelings on this one - I don't want her anywhere near the UN, but I'll be happy to be rid of her up here in NY.
MAGAts miscalculated. For some reason, in their addlepated bubble, they never expected those of us who live on Earth 1 would fight back. Stefanik, - is she still using her grandmother's address as her legal residence? - is a walking, talking primary example of a craven lickspittle whose only care is her own ambition. She now has a real opponent in her district. If she does her toady job and votes to destroy the famers and their families in her district by voting for the budget to kill the United States? I guarantee you, that seat will no longer be safe. What a reprehensible little prig. She is as bad as any man who has sworn allegiance to the adjudicated rapist and felon.
As for her being Ambassador to the UN? She is exactly everything that, after yesterday's vote, the United States has come to stand for: A rogue nation with no principles that can't be trusted. She will be perfect representative, she exhibits all those characteristics. She is Harvard College's shame. Thank God for Pete Buttigieg who off sets that shame.
'Just asking questions' is the most powerful thing that can be done in the face of apparent illegality. And boy, do the powers that be -- anywhere -- hate it! Let's all ask questions at every level of government, from school boards on up.
Thanks for connecting all these dots, Jay .. saves me having to figure it out from the lame stream media.. although I’m down in Florida (hyphenating New Hampshire winter) and will be interested in how Tampa Bay Times covers this..
“Unsigned arrest warrant” really is Gestapo-esque levels of bureaucratic convenience, next best thing to the “General Warrant” the German police had under Schickelgruber.
Are you aware that the same kind of f*&^ery and reverse robinhooding going on in DC is also being driven at state level by Musk/DOGE? They are looking into a new constitutional amendment in FL to stop taxing Mar-a-lago and make up the difference with increased sales taxes and new consumption taxes on the middle class and poorest people in our society.
P.S. This is actually a double threat: cities and counties control distribution of property taxes, the state controls distribution of sales taxes. Thus the state could withhold funds to coerce compliance by local governments as 47 is so fond of doing.
QUESTION: How do we point out things like this to someone with a loudspeaker like Lincoln Project? They need to start now identifying and exposing these efforts before maga puts the initial spin on them. Remember how Barr showed the magic of an initial false spin. But if exposed in their infancy for what they are, that will be the first impression.
Of course Mills is getting special treatment. RIP, Liberty and Justice For All. Repubes are never for anything for all. Money, power, privilege, access to everything is only for their core. And we know who and what that is--wealthy white men. Conservative women pioneered the idiotic phenomenon of voting to cut your own throat.

Jesus
Charming. Are MAGAt representatives from from the Island of Misfit Tools? Jeez.
unbelievable stupidity
Sadly, I'd say that is par for the course for maga.
WTF?
The mistake is understandable: both are pretty vile lawyers.
Brainfart?
Welcome to MY world!
She is scared to report because he is violent. I know the feeling. I hope she has the courage to get away from him NOW. I regret EVERYTIME I deferred to file a report. The violence only continues.

I hate this SO. MUCH.
And can you blame her. Maybe you need to be a woman finding herself in this position to have some understanding. The deck is stacked against her and she probably has gone into survival mode. Very good questions, Jay! I have a suspicion that we won’t get answers.
Where is the wife? Are they separated or is she finding out about this because of gathering assault?
I think even women who have never been in that situation can understand. The GOP/MAGA is ruthless. She would never have been able to find employment in political circles and would have been hounded by the maga mob.
It would have been nice if she could have stood tall and spoke her truth and kept speaking it. But I get it. There is too much downside for her. She may end the relationship though. I hope she does for her own safety.
Agree
And gets worse since there is no accountability.
She was bought off.
Her lover will squelch his violence, at least for the immediate future.
...If she is lucky.
The answer to all of Jay’s questions is Yes. Cover ups are the GOP’s go-to for all scandals.
After all, they're the party of charlatans, criminals, gangsters, sexual predators, drugs and greed. How are those J. Epstein files coming?
“Is it because Speaker Mike Johnson can’t afford to lose a single other vote on his budget to have any hope of getting it passed?”
Or because they believe women and minorities should have no rights under this Trump regime?
Sadly, probably both
True, indeed.
Both are accurate
Both!
Both.
There will be very little justice in America as long as the misogynistic and racist GOP feels entitled to do whatever they want in their personal and public lives, knowing that they will face little or no consequences.
My LGBTQ+ friends are getting armed. I get it. But I just am not prepared to kill anyone...yet!

That being said, no one is going to shove me into a ghetto or camp.

I believe it is both.
It's the "new-new masculinity" reasserting itself: women as punching bags who "bring it on themselves". Old wine, new bottles.
🤮
I have a chainsaw - time to perform a few vasectomies...
Castration would be more effective.
from big balls to zero balls in one easy swoop.

I've been thinking of doing just that in terms of self-defense classes.
Well....corruption in every nook and cranny. Ed Martin and so many attorneys have become hacks for a felon. So is every other UM law school grad except maybe Ann Coulter, and with her it would depend on the week,
I live in Michigan, and I am not surprised at all Cannon is from here.

lickspittle for the grin!
(with bonus points for "prig").
Appreciate that, thank you very much.

Hey wait. Sexual assault? That puts Congressman Mills near the top of the list for a cabinet position. I think he's just sucking up.
LOL!
Thanks for connecting all these dots, Jay .. saves me having to figure it out from the lame stream media.. although I’m down in Florida (hyphenating New Hampshire winter) and will be interested in how Tampa Bay Times covers this..
So, we are going back (It seems) to when a woman calls the cops for protection it's going to be What did she do to him? Or is that only for the GOP?
We never left. That situation has been true for hundreds of years. It’s just worse now.
Agreed. It’s the same old song only worse.
If calling musk ‘a dick’ is a threat, trump is going to have a lot more Cabinet appointees to replace.
“Unsigned arrest warrant” really is Gestapo-esque levels of bureaucratic convenience, next best thing to the “General Warrant” the German police had under Schickelgruber.
