"But Biden's memory!!"

And that's the MSM take on tRump's wholly OTT comments last weekend..."oh, it's just tRump being tRump". Well, yeah, stupid mo'fo's, that's EXACTLY the deal, and he's telling us in explicit terms what his current thinking is...ignore it at your peril.

Our media stars look at Trump's raging senility, loss of memory and open hatred of America and go "Well, what do you want from us? It's not like he's going to change."

Biden can't change the fact that he's old, yet our media stars hammer on it every single day.

It's time to realize they are not only not on our side; they are on the other side.

Expand full comment

It’s not senility, it’s sociopathy. He seems to have an excellent memory for who has or hasn’t catered to his every whim. When he confuses Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi, it’s because both of them are women who have p*ssed him off.

Certainly possible. I’m not going to waste time trying to parse that POS’s problems.

The Media is on the side of their corporate monopolistic billionaire masters and clicks. Trump being outrageous is bigger viewership for them.

Expand full comment

I think it's more that they want a bum fight. If there is no blood, they have nothing to write about. So they make both combatants seem equal when there is nothing equal about them.

If they tell the truth about trump, no one would vote for him and the election would just be a formality. That doesn't sell papers.

Expand full comment

As a 30-year member of the media, I think that’s true of the owners, but on a reporter level it’s really more about not being able to accept what’s happened on your watch, in some cases—pure careerism in others, and sometimes just an unwillingness to stick one’s neck out.

Trump is a lunatic and it is hard to tell what is making him deteriorate, but I assume some form of dementia, although just reading Greg Olears' discussion of the White House Pharmacy under Trump freely dispensing drugs without documenting or accounting for them, including opioids, and that Trump might be taking Adderall regularly, I see this as contributing to or compounding his mental attrition. It is clearly making him meaner too. I agree that our media is not up to the job of covering the election. I recently got a response to my complaints that the NYT only covers Biden's age, and not Trumps deficits, and the editor responding, who looks like a child himself, Aiden Gardiner, says that Americans have a right to worry about Bidens age. https://www.aidangardiner.com/about So ageism it is. However, Biden is part of a team with Harris and last I checked she is not "old." So, that is some sexism ignoring her existence as the Biden-Harris team. There is a contingency plan if something happens to the president. Harris will have 4+ years of tutelage under an excellent statesman if she needs to take over. Biden has a wife who will recognize his deterioration mentally if it happens, and will take appropriate action. I believe in Biden, Harris and Biden's wife. There is no one in Trump's life or world that I would trust farther than I can throw the John Hancock.

And that is why I cancelled my NYT subscription.

What gets me is how main stream media is NOT focusing on rump roast's mental fitness. The sorry excuse for a human has been off the rails since day one but oh no, Joe Biden is old and confused. Meanwhile, rump roast is saying and will continue to say things that make no sense or are so inflammatory that he sounds crazy. Because they literally blow it off as "trump being trump" which in itself as disturbing. I don't see how they don't see that he's actually gotten worse, because he has. This right here. The media has let us down. Trump is super easy to write about. The leads write themselves because he’s so outrageous. But the media doesn’t challenge Trump. They seem so busy and intent on regurgitating his crap without criticism. What they don’t realize is that by not calling him out now, if Trump becomes president again, he will shut that sh*t down. I don’t doubt that a second Trump presidency will greatly limit what the media will be “allowed” to write. So this is laziness on behalf of certain media that absolutely should be calling lies, lies. Should be calling out purposeful misinformation. If they don’t do it now, they may be out of work when the “day one dictator” decides to take it into day two and three.

Once again feeling like Will Smith's character in "I, Robot", "This is when 'I told you so' just doesn't cover it." Those of us who begged people to support Hillary Clinton in 2016 brought up the potential risks of Trump's presidency to our international ties. But no.... but "her emails"!

Expand full comment

We've been on our heels ever since. A lot of us would like to see things like "perpetual war for perpetual peace," as Gore Vidal put it, come to an end. A lot of us would like a national health insurance plan. But we've been on the back of our heels so much that we have to focus on what looks to be a realistic threat to what is already a fairly weak democracy (remember, the now weakened Voting Rights Act was only passed in 1965, and part of it has been struck down).

If Hillary had been elected, we'd have a very different Supreme Court, and the discussion would be "how far left can we go?" instead of, "we're heading toward an existential catastrophe led by a historic hate cult." And I know there are plenty of people here who don't want us to go too far to the left, but that's not my point. The discussion is simply not taking place, because we're all getting hammered by hate.

Expand full comment

I work on the tech/revenue cycle side of healthcare and yeah.... On one hand, I get to see what people go through as part of their illnesses, on the other hand, I also get to see what they have to pay later. I would jump to the ceiling and happily pay more taxes TODAY if that meant free healthcare and free education for all.

And yes, I would rather be finding out how far left we can go instead of finding out how far right. I am part of multiple marginalized groups and I am genuinely frightened.

Expand full comment

Thanks! In a more functional society, people on the left would be arguing with centrists over how far it all ought to go, and those conversations would be civil, maybe over a cup of coffee or a beer (for you drinkers out there). But we aren't having any of these discussions, much less truly attacking climate change, because we are fighting this other nonsense.

The thing is, a lot of us shouldn't have to pay more taxes. Just copy/paste the tax tables of the 1950s into today's tax tables, and take out the loopholes.

Expand full comment

Ohh, the tax table idea is awesome! Can we do that?! It absolutely needs to be a thing.

When I think about the former relationship between liberals and conservatives, I am reminded of an old Coke commercial that was around... oh.... 30 years ago. I only just came to the States back then, so I don't know which show it was referring to, but it showed two political pundits - one liberal, one conservative - debating each other on a TV show, quite vehemently, but reasonably courteously. And then, once the cameras were off, they get on a tour bus, go around DC, and have a burger and a Coke. I asked my husband about it - was it really like that. And he said yes - it used to be. But not anymore.

Look what the GOP does to ANYONE with common sense who tries the bipartisan approach. They rip them to shreds.

Expand full comment

Absolutely it was like that. I did it all the time with my Republican friends. But Republicans in those days were different. Nixon proposed a national health plan and created the Environmental Protection Agency. Nobody argued about the necessity of basic social welfare programs. Then Newt Gingrich and Ronald Reagan arrived.
