Now that we see Putin's list of undesirables matches Trump's list of enemies, there can no longer be any doubt that he is acting as a Russian agent and has been committing treason in plain sight.

He certainly is Putin’s choice, for obvious reasons. And Trump saying he would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours if elected gives Putin reason to continue his bloody conflict until the U.S. presidential elections are over. Trump is contributing to continuing conflict, misery and death.

Trump. The evil actor must be

D-🦶🦶-ed in 2024 or sooner. He must never be allowed to run for any office in this country again. He can build his next and last Trump Tower tomb in Moscow. He can have the top floor for himself where there will be no windows.

Exactly!!

This makes me think about the translator’s notes that Trump took after he and Putin had their private meeting. Seems like another blatant violation of the NARA policies.

Thank you Jay. Dangerous times everyone—we must remain vigilant and strong through the storm, it’s already started and it will only get worse as they realize their time is almost up.

Good point. The more he feels threatened, the more he spews poison.

Great post. As for Trump’s “What about Joe Biden?”-ism, he understands perfectly well how his case of willful retention and communication and of obstruction is so markedly different. He just doesn’t care.

Perhaps. Hard to tell if he is willfully blind or not.

I loved the self-own in the letter to Garland:

“Unlike President Biden, his son Hunter and the Biden family, President Trump is being treated unfairly,”

implying that Biden and his family were being treated fairly.

As Maxwell Smart would say: missed it by “that” much!

Is being found guilty of the Espionage Act enough to keep him out of the Presidency? Or is that only Seditious Conspiracy or Treason?

Expand full comment

My first answer was wrong.

A criminal conviction does not affect eligibility for the Presidency. We should probably change that.

Only a conviction in a Senate impeachment trial would bar Trump from the Presidency.

I see people often say that the US should change the rules about allowing criminals to run for president.

But then I think about Mandela or Nevalny.

America doesn't think that it could anything like apartheid South Africa or Russia under Putin, but TFG's presidency and the rising wave of fascism in places like Florida suggest it could easily slip in that direction.

Preventing "criminals" from running ignores the possibility of rehabilitation or of politically motivated incarceration. The latter we know the MAGAts would love to implement anywhere they could.

Also, in more civilized countries, the focus for incarceration is rehabilitation. It's not about stripping _all rights_ from prisoners, only their right to freedom of movement. It's why they have _much_ lower recidivism rates. American conservatives already try to chip at ex-prisoner's rights through voter suppression tactics, and banning them from running for office would just feed into that narritive.

Right that’s what I thought.

And we should definitely change that

Who would have ever considered that we would need to?!

Trump's m/o is to mislead everyone. I don't know why the fact that he misled his own attorney should surprise anyone. I also don't understand why people keep blindly jumping into this black hole. You'd think people with that much education would be smarter than that. Duh.

Expand full comment

Education does not mean that one is “smart”. Regurgitation of facts or recitation by rote doesn’t mean anything unless they’re accompanied by critical thinking and practical application. Emotional maturity and self awareness also factor into being truly educated. trump is essentially damaged goods who attracts other people much like himself…

Yes, Dennis. Exactly.

It’s not intelligence. It’s imagination, something no Republican we see and hear from regularly, seems to have.

Expand full comment

That depends an awful lot on what they're applying their imaginations *to*. When it comes to upward wealth migration and general meanness they are very imaginative.

One would think… but look at DeSantis. Degrees from Harvard and Yale but without basic critical thinking skills.

Expand full comment

I think DeSantis probably has critical thinking skills, but he has decided to use them to support his hate and racism. He saw Trump’s game-plan and simply coopted it all for himself. He likely plagiarized his way through university, too. 🤣

No offense. But why attack Garland? I think it’s likely he has been handling this whole thing as it had to be handled.

I'm hoping that Trump's comments at his town hall will help convict him too:

"Trump’s lawyers told Congress last month that the classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago compound got there by accident. But when questioned about the issue at a CNN town hall, Trump said he had “every right” to take them from the White House.

“I didn’t make a secret of it,” he said. “You know, the boxes were stationed outside the White House, people were taking pictures of it.”

He said he didn’t recall having shown secret material to others, which is a key question prosecutors would want to answer. Disclosing classified material to people not authorized to receive it is a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Asked if he showed classified documents to others, he answered, “Not really…I would have the right to,” later adding, “not that I can think of.”

Expand full comment

Possession is 9/10ths of the law and being in possession of stolen goods is a crime. When I handled any classified materials at my old job, I was briefed of and knew of the penalties for mishandling, losing, or possessing any of those papers beyond what was necessary to doing my job. There were no excuses for doing otherwise, but I guess if you’re the President, ordinary rules don’t apply, particularly if members of a certain political party have your back in Congress…

Thank you Jay! Once again, for expertly outlining the legal perils that are haunting the tangerine toddler. Now Jack Smith needs to LOCK HIM UP!!!!! My apologies, but my pettiness sometimes gets the better of me. Have a great weekend everyone!

“On June 4, the day after Bratt leaves, the employee helps Nauta pack up an SUV, and Trump leaves for Bedminster for the summer.”

Okay, so that implies that Dumpy may have taken a whole bunch of other classified documents with him to Bedminster. What has the DOJ done to search that and all other properties of Dumpy for anything he is still keeping?

Expand full comment

What’s unclear is if he actually took documents with him to Bedminster, or what was in that SUV. Investigators likely know.

So evidence DOJ have are just overwhelming to get a conviction by Jack Smithon..... maybe genius tRump needs to make a deal to support DeathSantis to win the White House and then he would get a pardon from Puttin' Finger Ron. Or better yet. Trump'd go for exile in Russia (Putin could use those Top Secret documents from his buddy ) before he gets convicted!

DeSantis has already responded yesterday. He announced that, if he should become president, he would “immediately and aggressively seek to pardon Trump and his co-conspirators”. An obvious move to extort badly needed support from Trump and his MAGA base. There is no honor or low(est) between these MAGgAT candidates. The welfare of our country or ethics is not even a consideration for them.
