I'm tired of the normalcy the major media outlets give them. They feed on the lunacy for ad dollars by treating them like they are perfectly normal politicians having just another day at the "House."

Expand full comment

The major media outlets are owned by the people who benefit from chaos and division. Mainstream news is little more than deception and propaganda now.

Expand full comment

Unfortunately, they still wield enormous influence, and sometimes they even produce the occasional useful investigative report. The New York Times is an example, to me, of a split personality. They'll crank out an excellent investigative piece, then produce headline after headline that normalizes a man found guilty of sexual assault and defamation in a civil court, with 20+ additional female accusers, along with all the other crap, including 91 felony indictments.

Expand full comment

I agree on all counts, enormous influence. As a writer on climate change I subscribe to many resources, the NY Times one of them, because like it or not I have to. You're right, some great pieces, but also a lot of annoying, hypocritical crap. This in part is what has driven me and I suspect others to jump into the fray, researching and writing. We need to know the truth, and that can only be found by digging for the details and being unencumbered by sales and circulation numbers. Every serious independent writer needs paid it's not easy, but perhaps that's an indicator of integrity, to take the hard road.

For me, the exhaustion comes from the hyper or uber everything about Donald Trump and his gang. Their hyper egos, hyper fear-mongering rhetoric, the hyper partisanship and the hyper false patriotism. They are betrayers of ideal the nation was built on.

November is so far off that I fear what might happen across the world as we wait to vote. Then, there is no clear guarantee that these lemmings will be voted out of power. It is just a damn shame that some Republicans in the House who still might have a sense of decency within themselves would not stand up for what is right. They are cowards with a broken moral compass.

A capitulation by Johnson to get a budget passed, or to kick the can down the road again with a continuing resolution will not save them come November. Ten more months of similar behavior in the House will simply magnify their gross mismanagement of the public trust and drive all but the MAGAts away from the Repuglican ticket. They might cave somehow and allow an aid package through but they won’t be able to run on it, having set themselves up as obstructionists. I’m as TIRED as anyone hearing about their juvenile behavior, but the longer it persists the more likely the voters will do what needs to be done. May God grant me the patience to survive the long wait for November...

The MAGA cult member will never believe the fault lies with trump and his sycophant's in congress, and will always blame President Biden. However this has the potential to be a historic "own goal" for MAGA, and democrats should be blasting this betrayal every singe chance they get. Remember during the pandemic the democrats in the house passed bills that could have helped trump, but they did it anyway because it was the right thing to do.

But Ukraine cannot wait until January 2025 for aid and bullets, more than a year late. Shit. Shit.

We have our own problems, and yes they are existential. But ours are not problems of bullets and literal lives on the line. Not like theirs. They have no refuge, no safe harbors. Ukraine literally has lives and bullets and its very destiny hanging in the balance.

A discharge petition? To convey aid to them? With that few needing to defect, is it possible in any way?

This makes me feel a little better…From Tom Watts on Post:

“The Ringtausch

I think I have this right.

Turkey ratified Sweden's Nato bid. Turkey then won the right to purchase F-16s.

Then arch-rival Greece received the go ahead to purchase F-35s. The next day they announced their willingness to send a bunch of their Soviet era weapons to Ukraine.

Then the US said they'd be willing to sell F-35s to Turkey if they donated their S-400 anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine. Turkey is mulling the deal.

Meanwhile Ecuador announced they would donate back to the US some American weapons in its inventory in return for new weapons at a date to be determined later. The first shipment of those weapons were picked up in Ecuador by a Ukrainian Antonov-124 cargo plane.

Russia has announced an embargo on Ecuadorean bananas.

The Germans call this a Ringtausch, a ring trade. Europeans have been doing this for months now. And there isn't a single thing Youth Pastor Mike can do about it”

I believe change is coming. The repubs are not governing anymore, they’re acting like clowns and everyone sees it (no disrespect to clowns). The voters will speak loudly! As for tucker, they could use an opinionated rube over in Moscow. If he’s looking for fame, he’d fit in quite well, asking ALL the questions and not providing and answers.

"United States Constitution, Article III, Section 3, “Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort."

We are not currently at war with anyone, so treason is a difficult crime to commit at the moment. Insurrection - now there's a crime we actually have evidence for and indictments under way. There are people "serving" in the House who really ought to be in jeopardy of indictment and trial for that crime, as well.

I can't remember if it was here, in an earlier article that mentioned a government shut-down, or in one of Dr. Heather Cox Richardson's posts. A person who works in government explained that employees must actually start preparing for a shut-down a few WEEKS ahead of time. In fact, they've probably already begun those preparations, just in case. If a budget or CR is passed, then it will take about the same time to undo that preparation. Sooooo, they undergo WEEKS of unnecessary activities, and this is the 3rd time they'll have gone through this. Aren't Republicans supposed to be conservative when it comes to unnecessary spending?

They've dropped all pretenses of being conservative. They traded those creds in for "pro-Putinism" and obstructionism.

Only the elected 'public servants' are that useless. The federal workers--those "bureacracy drones", the people who work every day to make sure the government runs as smoothly as possible are still doing their jobs to the best of their ability. Those who have been elected to 'serve the people' have clearly forgotten to whom they owe their allegiance and service. It's high time we remind them who is truly their employer. VOTE. BLUE.

the border bill not being brought to a vote in the House because of the fear it will pass is honestly all anyone needs to know about how the GOP is governing. All because someone who is no longer president doesn't want it. Of course their supporters will turn a blind eye but I'm hoping enough see it to make a difference in Nov. I know Nov is too late for funding that is needed but so many in this country need to wake up and understand WTF is really going on.
