Don Hankey, Jr has brought himself to the attention of every regulator in the country. I don't see this ending well for him.

The only thing that really worries me about this hashtag, is that he has touched our country rather deeply.

May he touch himself!

Trump could have stayed out of politics and continued criming and almost nobody would have cared. Now Hankey has been dragged into that same limelight!

Everyone who steps into the black hole orbit of the trump galaxy ends up in trouble. You'd think people would learn after a while....but no. Duh. I think money fogs your brain.

Deborah, you wrote “I think money fogs your brain.” I think it’s greed that does that.

Hankey and Axos Bank have now been touched by Trump. And now there is a much larger segment of the population (me included) that knows of them and, I for one, will have nothing to do with them. They are making a bet that Trump wins in November and make good on his debts . Are these the new American oligarch?

But if he loses ....

I would agree. Especially because Rachel Maddow has discussed this deal on her show. It was posted on my branch of Democrats Abroad Germany. She goes into detail about the kind of loans that are made by his bank. https://topnewsshow.com/the-rachel-maddow-show-4-8-24/

It reveals how much scummery goes on behind the scenes in Treacherous-treasonous-traitorous-tantruming-Trump's life.

Spielberg needs to make a movie titled "Swindler's List."

The optics are enough to burn the eyes out. A known defrauder and con-man posts a fraudulent bond for his fraud trial. It is way past time for The Donald to sit inside a jail-cell while this gets sorted out.

I don't get what the end game is for the wealthy folks who back Trump. I understand he's promising tax cuts as well as (apparently) making their legal problems go away once he's in office, but they all have so much money... more than enough to actually pay those taxes and penalties. What is their deal? Is it simply naked greed or is there some other, additional agenda? Or do they all have some kind of personality disorder that means they need to feel ever more special than the rest of us by getting away with financial and other rule breaking? How much is enough for these greedy bastards? I don't get it.

Expand full comment

Greed is the point for most of those slimewads. They're the insecure wealthy losers that need to drive a flashy or overly large vehicle to compensate for something else being tiny . . . . (and it's not their ego).

Expand full comment

But do they actually have the money they say they do? Backing Trump is a very big role of the dice. If he wins, they win. If he loses, it may be like the last play in a giant Jenga game.

Yes.

Some are also racists.

Expand full comment

Yes, all of the above replies and more. Greed. Hatred of paying taxes as grown out of a hatred of government, especially governmental regulation. Personally disorders which make them feeling special, superior and above other people, egotistical, and ruthless. It shows in the I want it but don’t want to pay for it philosophy - unpaid vendors and contractors, unpaid taxes, but love that corporate welfare government passes out. A good many of them are racist, some because they believe progressive taxation and government programs are socialism and redistribution of wealth to the “others” (non-whites).

So who are the depositors to Axos Bank? Russian oligarchs? Saudis? Others seeking to influence Trump's America?

Expand full comment

I too have looked for this information. They do promise higher yields on deposits in their internet bank, which would imply higher interest rates for borrowers, but how much of this money laundering? They have one physical location in San Diego, but it’s more of a corporate headquarters, I’m not sure if it’s a walk-in bank with tellers. The San Diego home town press has been mostly hands off on Axos and most of what I’ve read came from larger out of town sources. Locally, elected officials in San Diego have shifted from Republican up through the end of the Reagan years, to purple, to mostly Democrats, but there’s intrenched republican money with deep ties to business.

Expand full comment

Wow is right. Not the most stellar reviews. The Google reviews aren’t much better and I’m suspicious the only good reviews are out of town online real estate loans that always name the same two or three loan officers. Self written?

I’ll add Republican old money with deep ties the national GOP, some to TFG. The east half of the county is as deep red as you can find with homegrown white supremacists.

What I wonder about is what's going to happen if Trump's bond is rejected. Does he get another delay to find a new bond or does he forfeit his right to an appeal and James is allowed to immediately go after his assets?

Expand full comment

My guess is that she'll start filing liens against his property. But, it's just a guess.

Expand full comment

Since the 10 day waiting period from the appeals count is now over and if the Hankey bond is rejected, she can begin the process of collection.

I would assume that she has all the paperwork to begin the process of obtaining his assets ready to go. Just waiting for the word: GO!

Expand full comment

I'd like to see the appeals court reverse their decision both because he didn't meet the 10-day window, and because his attorneys may have committed ethics violations for not reporting that he had an offer to post the $454 M bond when they said it was impossible . . . Then the AG should start slapping liens on everything she can and get the monitor to provide the court with details on every account she is aware of.

Future story:

Today it was announced that Trump and Hankey have been unable to come up with the bond money for the appeal in their civil fraud case about the $175M bond in Trump's first civil fraud case. Each were fined $100 million. In other news all of Trump's New York attorneys have quit due to not being paid.

E. Jean Carroll has won her latest suit over Trump's defamation. /s

Hankey offered to pay the full $465M bond. Which the Trump's lawyers 'forgot' to mention to the appeals court.

"In an interview with ProPublica, billionaire California financier Don Hankey said he reached out to Trump’s camp several days before the bond was lowered, expressing willingness to offer the full amount and to use real estate as collateral."

Thank you for the details on this steaming pile of poo . . . It's hard to believe that Cheetolini actually got involved with a guy that has videos of a dancing turd (South Park's Mr. Hankey). . .

My the way, there is an extra "already" in the sentence before the header on Axos.

Rachel Maddow did an enthusiastic discussion of this mess last night on her show. Hopefully the regulators are paying attention to both of you (and the many others that are also raising alarms). Hankey also said publicly (don't remember the outlet) that he "had no idea where Trump got the money". That seems like a very clear violation of the money-laundering and Patriot Act laws. I'd love to see him get charged since his company also does some really slimy debt collection.

Once again, Cheetolini works with "all the best people" . . . So much swampiness . . . .
