Well, mine that is, though I suppose the debt limit is on everyone’s minds, too.
I was at the C100 Conference in San Jose the past three days, working with over 1,000 attendees to better relations and understanding between the United States and China through cultural exchange and education. One big focus lately has been to work against anti-AAPI hate, which has grown by distressing amounts after ex-president Trump began to stoke it in the wake of the pandemic. Another has been to come to the legal aid of Chinese researchers at American institutions who were racially profiled and accused, without any evidence, of spying for the CCP.
This year, both my brother Kaiser and I attended the conference, he on behalf of the China Project, and I on behalf of the Next Generation Leaders class of 2022. Here we were just before the formal gala dinner and reception.
After getting no sleep on my red-eye back from the conference, I’ll be skipping my normal week ahead look at the news. The main thing in the headlines today is another heartbreaking mass shooting in Texas, which included multiple child victims, for whom the Republican Party is once again offering nothing but its thoughts and prayers. And I just don’t have the heart or energy to write about that sad but predictable state of affairs today.
I’ll be back on tomorrow morning, then flying out tomorrow afternoon to Dayton, Ohio for the start of rehearsals for the premiere of our new musical, Indigo, at the Human Race Theatre there. Have a great Sunday, and we’ll meet up here on Substack tomorrow.

I wish R's had heart. We the people are suffering. Shootings are everywhere, everyday. Do you go to school today? The mall? Church, synagogue, or mosque? Street fair? Parade? Well? Do feel lucky, punk? Do you? 😔
When Australia had a mass shooting decades ago, one brave leader sacrificed his career to eliminate weapons of war. And the Aussies still feel free.

England is a cup of tea.
France, a wheel of ripened brie.
Greece, a short, squat olive tree.
America is a gun.

Oh, better to be anything than America as a gun.
