blatantly and unapologetically blame Zelenskyy for the loss and destruction of the country he loves and defends so courageously. More than a week ago we were made aware that the free world of democratic nations must stand with Ukraine since Trump has abandoned them for Putin . If you are willing to live in a world of oligarchs, billionaires, facists, and sheiks treat you like subjects then LET THEM . With every breath and a restrained voice I will never resign to this pivotal moment in history. Wake up , stand firm, and be a freedom fighter.🙏
When the front-line Ukrainian troops are asked "how do you feel" about killing endless waves of Russian troops, they say "I'm killing the enemy that came to kill us". They de-personalize it, compartmentalize it in order to withstand the horror of it.
Our houses of Government, our institutions, laws and constitutions have been invaded, now literally by an internal enemy, an enemy of democracy. They're every bit as ruthless as the troops, using different weapons, but weapons that are every bit as lethal to our democracy and our standing in the world as AK-47's against men's flesh.
When the currency in trade is lies versus truth, tactics like negotiations, agreements and even treaties don't work. I think we'll come to that most difficult conclusion with the present regime occupying Washington DC.
When the felon is gone, one way or another, vance and the rest of the p2025 gang walk in and along with the ones already imbedded in congress and the courts, their takeover coup will be complete. That’s been the long game for years, as felons are easily manipulated and well paid… the muskrats have simply been clearing the path.
Will the legal process and constitution stop them? And future elections? I don’t like being so negative but I’m not sure what, short of enormous bloodshed, will change this course….
There is tremendous potential power in the collective, if you can harness it. What would it really take? World war? What if POTUS actually shot someone with a firearm in the East Wing whom he deemed an enemy from the deep state? I don't know. I know we were 1.5 million votes short of a very different present.
Apropos of nothing, I would put $100 on the table trump wondered aloud whether he could deport African Americans to Africa. And that Homan said, "Let's do it!". I wonder (theoretically) who said, "Damn fine idea if we could get away with it! But I don't think we can sir".
The American people need to rise up and drag these assholes out of office. Then get to the task of repairing the damage done that has wiped out 250 years of “proper” nation building on our own soil. Trump and his lackeys are the anti-Christ. He lied about making America great again and has done much to tear it down instead. Anyone that supports him now is a traitorous fool.
and that includes all of the republicans in congress, state legislatures, state cabinet officers, state AGs, state Governors, et al who are republican. They are accomplices to the crimes of the orange turd and space boy!
We all agree. The problem is it doesn’t seem likely that the people will rise up. I recently talked with several workers in their 20’s or early 30’s. They either still supported Trump and said they were apolitical. Not a single outraged person among them.
Oh I disagree. People are already rising up. Trump is digging his own grave every time he opens his mouth.
Many of our youth are complacent. They’ve grown up in a time largely unaware, and thus uncaring, about how bad things can get. They’ve not had the lived experience of everything that has happened between 1938 and 2000 when they were born.
That's the reason history repeats itself. The collective memory for "how it was" lasts about as long as the lifespan of a human being. WWII started 86 years ago. The Civil War was fought about 80 years before that.
I'm hearing kind of the same thing from the 20,30, & 40 yr olds. "Oh, the news is just so upsetting, I'm not watching it". Makes me crazy - they must think I'm the fanatical retiree with nothing better to do.
Exactly, I mean we've witnessed so many lines being crossed, so many ruptures of constitutional law, a non-stop plethora of antidemocratic ukases from the WH - meaning Musk in tRump's name - and other insults to the body politic. However, with these latest moves toward not only a rapprochement with Russia, but even an emerging "partnership", when will we begin to hear or read that Putin has "requested" from tRump "intelligence-sharing", where DNI chief Gabbard meets with Russian counterparts to discuss "areas of mutual interest" regarding intelligence-gathering, such as tapping into Musk's Starlink networks as an example? Or, the long-time "Five Eyes" intelligence-pooling consortium becomes "Six Eyes", by orders of tRump.
The point is, when does all of the above become an existential threat to US national security to which an extralegal response is mandated? IOW, a "Seven Days in May" scenario playing out? How far-fetched can that possibility be in comparison to what REALLY is happening on the ground, and who and what can potentially reverse these dire swings in policy? Street demos? Chuck Schumer speech-making? Bloggers? Who really has the power? Answer: It's NOT the courts. Draw your own conclusion.
We can now forget being part of the five eyes. No one is going to share any intelligence with this administration of fools and traitors.
And Schumer? 😂 I’m beginning to wonder if he isn’t in kahoots with Mump and Co. He has done nothing but play by outdated “rules and traditions” that stopped working in the 20th century.
The GOP has been planning this for 50 years. Reagan kicked it off. They have covered their asses in every way possible. I don't see any way forward to rid our country of these traitors! Sad.
I hope all the NATO countries will come to OUR DEFENSE when a new revolution is begun. Hegseth's firing all the generals because they are a threat to the illegal Trump regime.
Right now I think NATO without the US, is thinking about how to come to the defense of Ukraine, and get their own shit together. Otherwise they will be in no shape to take on the worlds strongest military and strongest nuclear arsenal without having at least a strong military force of their own. That is going to take a few years, so sit back and wait, or fight from at home.
Here is a piece I wrote the other day called A "Plan C" for Catastrophe.
Be safe and be strong! As others get themselves together they will be more able to support any revolutionary actions in the US to overthrow the King that Trump has now named himself.
His guest Anat Shenker-Osorio is talking about what is going on and who is getting it right and who is getting it wrong and what it takes to get to understanding what is going on, mentions the update from the project 2025 tracker, talks about system justification theory. She gets to the messaging about 18 minutes in. She says actions speak louder than words. I think what she is saying makes a lot of sense. In a sense forget getting the DEMS to do anything except for those who are. She is really getting to the meat of how things work. From my lifelong activism what she is saying is ringing true. Also, please share this with other people.
An example of how 'revenge' quickly gets supplanted by greed, in that once one has 'gotten even,' the urge to dominate (like a taste for blood) takes over.
I am 81 years old. I have NEVER even imagined this could happen in our country. I'm glad I won't have to suffer through the 4th reich for long but the kids? Sad.
I truly hope that you can find a joy in the rest of your life and trust that the world will turn itself around. I know so many people that are really working hard on it. Do not worry of your life. Enjoy your friends and family and just spread love enjoy your love.
Thank you for your sweet words, Luey. I am 82, an "early boomer" and grieve a lot about the hopes for our country my friends and I grew up with. Our depression era parents tried, and we tried and it really hurts to see what is happening. But no, I cannot just trust that the world will turn around. I cannot be as active as I would like to be, but I need to be among those who resist, doing what I can to keep this from being their future. I do find joy in this: the people of all ages who do what they can to turn things around, including my children and grandchildren, and the people of all ages working together. But there would not be joy if I weren't there among them. That one way I have of expressing my love for them.
I’m not happy with Susan Collins. She’s decided to stick with the party and vote in almost every one of Trump’s cabinet picks. She’ll voice opposition to her party’s often terrible picks (Supreme Court) and then join in with her sidekicks.
So republican House and Senate, if you are remaining silent while trump abandons Ukraine and puts the U.S. in putin’s pocket, what makes you think your precious elected skins will be worth a damn to putin OR trump when your bank accounts are empty and Congress is “shut down” because you have become irrelevant. Oh wait, you are ALREADY IRRELEVANT DUPES.
Susan Collin’s has been useless and is responsible for the Roe debacle (believing kavanaugh), and her capitulation to smooth-talking liars now in positions to destroy the country. She’s way past her expiration date.
It's on the Republicans for abandoning their obligation to the Constitution, and their failure to stand up and speak out early enough to keep us from where we are now. Some have and we need to give them credit. But right now all the rest of us have to take on the battle to save our country from deteriorating into a autocratic mess. I'm tired of indignation and fed up with pointing fingers. It's on all of us to do what we can and to throw as much of ourselves as we can into it.
You're a lawyer, Jay, and I would never disagree with you over legal stuff. But I am a published military historian specializing in World War II. I hate disagreeing with you but most of the propaganda over Munich in 1938 is that - self-serving BS from parties with an interest in getting the BS out there. Here are some actual facts that even Churchill agreed with (in private):
Yes, appeasement certainly did not work, but excoriating Chamberlain for playing a weak hand badly misses most of the point, the point being that Britain could not have gone to war in October 1938 with any hope of success. At that point, the German Luftwaffe was equipping with the Messerschmitt 109; the RAF was still flying World War I-style biplane fighters that were thoroughly outclassed. The Hawker Hurricane only equipped two squadrons and the first Spitfire Squadron had just received the first of its airplanes weeks before Chamberlain's trip to Munich. In fact, Britain needed every minute of the next 19 months to get to the point they could barely hold on in the summer of 1940. Additionally, when Chamberlain went to George VI on May 10, 1940 to tender his resignation, he told the King to offer the PM to Churchill, not to the appeaser Lord Halifax. In the two weeks between then and Churchill's speech in the Commons ("I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat") Chamberlain used his influence to stave off a revolt against Churchill in the Conservative Party.
It is difficult to negotiate when your hand is not even a pair of jacks. Chamberlain managed to make even that look worse the way he acted toward Hitler. Interestingly, that performance was also what brought a majority of British voters around over the next year from supporting appeasement to agreeing with Churchill's criticism. Churchill could never have taken office in 1940 without that change in the electorate. Oh, and when he was Chancellor before becoming Prime Minister, Chamberlain was the guy who broke the opposition to increased military spending in Parliament and initiated the RAF modernization in 1935 that led to holding on n 1940) Just sayin'... history at the time isn't always what 20/10 hindsight says it is.
Thank you, TCinLA, for the information you shared in your post. (I'm an avid reader of WW2 history, my father having been a Navigator in a Heavy Bomber Group in Southern Italy from June 1944 to February 1945 - credited with 50 missions - and, thankfully, he came home.)
My take on the points you made...... is that Chamberlain had a weak (or no) hand to play and that his appeasement of Hitler (gifting Hitler the Sudetenland area of Czechoslovakia) was based on "wishful, hopeful thinking" - that appeasing Hitler would, HOPEFULLY, persuade Hitler from wreaking havoc on the rest of Europe.
Today's situation is totally different, for the United States does have the upper hand, financially, economically, and militarily, over Russia. WHICH does reveal Trump's actions to appease Putin to be traitorous. Just think of THAT. We have a traitor in our White House.
Honestly, we have no idea what hand Trump has to play because of so much subterfuge, lying, and rumors (many likely true) of scandalous power Putin and Musk have over Trump. In any case, Trump is not at all motivated to play a heroic or even a humane hand. He is only interested in power, ego, and perhaps overcoming a threat to his actual survival.
He managed to outrun the American Justice system; now we'll see if he can outrun the Kompromat that the Kremlin has on him. Perhaps that's why he proposed an Iron Dome over the entire US...
This is a much-needed corrective to the flattened narrative of Munich in 1938. If anyone's interested in a fantastically well-written fictionalized account that properly contextualizes things and gets you inside Chamberlain's head, try the book "Munich" by the fantastic Robert Harris. Yes, it's historical fiction, but it's so admirably well-researched. Neville Chamberlain is so unfairly maligned that people treat him almost interchangeably with the Norwegian minister Quisling, but this just isn't so.
I second the GOD DAMNED TRAITOR!!He has betrayed ALL OF US!!FUCK HIM and the horse he rode in on!!
Send his ass to Leavenworth!!Throw away the key, leave him there till his bones are moldy!
And put Muskrat in Guantanamo, strip him of US citizenship, and take every cent he has.Leave that S.O.B.so damned broke he can't even pay attention.Sell his companies and divide all that money between all the world's space agencies, the ones who all care about science and exploration, and make his name a mockery.
I have been so concerned about this exact issue, I didn’t sleep last night. This is beyond the pale. Keeping our allies and the American people out of the loop to me constitutes high treason. I don’t know what can be done but I am sick at what they are up to. I stopped dead in my tracks yesterday watching the BBC at 5 am when I realized Zelensky did not have a seat at the table.
I am also begining to feel physically sick about all that is going on. There seems to be no path to sanity, as things in our country, and the world are lurching increasingly out of control, the result of a madman in charge.
Unfortunately the millions that voted for him are just as insane brainwashed by propaganda courtesy of FOX. W e need to reach the nearly 20 million who didn't bother to vote.....they could have made the difference.
I stopped that pretense years ago. I am 82 yrs been there done that sometimes to excess. I am an avid reader and have read about our govt at length. The disillusionment was tremendous, very depressing. It has never been there for us to the extent that it has been against us. My feeling is that these circumstances we face are beyond extraordinary and the govt' should respond in kind. Why should we be concerned with legality when all that we are facing is illegality. One can't succeed with a stark difference in the rules.
This is one of those articles, Mr. Kuo, that I had to stop reading to take care of my mental health. That sick, nauseous bubble is developing in my gut again, and the tears are right behind my eyes, and I have a full day of work to attend to. Thank you for writing, but the reading will have to wait for another day ...
I read it.. and the absurdity of my life is that I had to pivot to planning a dish for a pot luck.
My experience is probably reflective of the lives of many who know we should DO something, but life family finances putting food on the table takes all of our resources.
I lay ALL of this at the feet of Mitch McConnell. He didn't have the balls to get the senate to convict tRump the second time saying our justice system would take care of tRump.
Yesterday, I got to witness firsthand how poorly informed some Americans are about the seriousness of what is going on in Ukraine. During a big, all-teams monthly conference calls, one of the senior executives actually made a joke about negotiating peace between Russia and Ukraine.
As a first-generation Ukrainian American with parents in Zaporizhzhya, having delivered daily news summaries and commentary on this war for the last three years, my coping mechanisms are usually good - but I was completely blindsided by this. So, I put my mic on mute and cried for the rest of the meeting.
I get that the comment was just a dumb attempt at being funny, but holy cow! How can anyone be that callous or stupid? War is not a good subject for amusement.
Oh, Maria. My heart breaks for you and tears streamed from my eyes as I read this. So many of us stand with you. I'm so sorry you have such a callous leadership team. Take care.
This makes me really angry, because I have a bunch of Ukrainian friends and coworkers. It's sad that our country has gotten so oblivious to the rest of the world that enough of us voted for this arrogant piece of crap who sells out his friends and allies.
And the GOP leaders are complicate and in lockstep (pun intended) with the actual Manchurian Candidate. Never thought I'd see something like this in my lifetime.
I've been wondering this, too. ALL of them. It would certainly be nice if Bush spoke up--not that it's likely to happen. But where are Biden! Obama and Clinton?
How are we to communicate to our NATO allies that there is a significant number of US citizens appalled as well. Is it possible to bring NATO in to discuss further with Democratic representatives and present a stronger challenge to Putin and his ilk, even if our own government is joining forces with him?
We need to be active on social media, in groups, in loud protests against our own government. The last part is starting to grow, and as the chaos wrought by DOGE and the mass firings of federal workers begins to effect the citizenry, they may grow in size and frequency,
I wrote before the election on Facebook that Tump will hand Ukraine to Russia. I also warned that it is an invite to Russia to attack other countries. My reach is limited and it didn't make a difference. Single issue voters like the ones against abortion voted for him anyway. And yes it makes me sick to know and see all this but not have any power to stop this trainwreck.
Aside from the fact that Dems are out of power and there’s no shadow government, why would allies trust anything anyone from the US says? And which Dems would have the spines to meet with our allies? They won’t even stand up for their voters.
"Through Trump’s capitulation, Russia has been essentially greenlit to invade other nations on its borders", presumably for territory and resources. And by extension of this cozy tacit arrangement, Trump has also been greenlit to invade his neighbours. Heads-up, Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Greenland. Just sayin, from a Canadian.
Today we witness President Trump
blatantly and unapologetically blame Zelenskyy for the loss and destruction of the country he loves and defends so courageously. We are now left with our only hope, that these old guys like Trump just die. Problem is the one’s behind them are just as crazy but smarter.
Yes, but they don’t have the “charisma “ or whatever Trump supposedly has.
He is their puppet that has the following.
Jd Vance seems worse, however, as someone stated “he couldn’t get a donut lady to put icing on his donut”
Vance is not liked at all. By hardly anyone. I am guessing that the repukes that won’t disobey FFOTUS, would laugh and stand up to JD
I also get the impression that JD and musk are not buddies. Especially now the way muskmelon is taking over Vance’s role.
The reception that Vance received at the Munich conference is indicative of how well he would be effective as POTUS.
So someone at least start a 25th amendment if they can’t find Luigi to step up.
Like yesterday
Cheetolini once again proved that he is a traitor puppet to Putin. Meanwhile, the cowardly, complicit GQP sit silent.
Scum.
Maybe some Ukrainian spec ops soldiers will find another use for some of those hard earned skills.
When the front-line Ukrainian troops are asked "how do you feel" about killing endless waves of Russian troops, they say "I'm killing the enemy that came to kill us". They de-personalize it, compartmentalize it in order to withstand the horror of it.

Lock him in his bedroom at the white house. Set a guard and get some doctors in to see him.
Make a tv set that looks like the oval office, and lock him in it all day.

Sad but true.

In fact, it's men from 18 - 54 who are the strongest Trump supporters.

I would certainly support trying to work with Vance, etc. just to have the pleasure of seeing Trump buried next to his ex on his golf course.
I sincerely doubt Vance can be worked with any more easily than Trump.

Schumer has been a weenie for years. We need a real leader in the Senate.
We need more Jasmine Crocketts and AOCs.....they speak out and are strong women. We need way MORE of them!
The GOP has been planning this for 50 years. Reagan kicked it off. They have covered their asses in every way possible. I don't see any way forward to rid our country of these traitors! Sad.
Yes, reagan was the first of the truly anti-American presidents...
YES!!!! 👍
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING SURPRISING ABOUT WHAT TRUMP HAS DONE. HE HAS BEEN TELLING US WHO HE IS FOR YEARS. HE IS A PUTIN PUPPET.
I am waiting for European countries to get it together and take charge. Slava Ukrani!
I hope all the NATO countries will come to OUR DEFENSE when a new revolution is begun. Hegseth's firing all the generals because they are a threat to the illegal Trump regime.

Does king trump then become k.t., or simply Katie?
Hopefully he becomes DT=Dumped Trump, as in the Boston Tea party and dumping King George the last person who tried to be monarch over our land.
Richard, here is a hopeful video that I recommend you watch and share.
This video embedded in the Substack INK from Anand Giridharadas called "WATCH: An *actual* plan to beat fascism. A masterclass from political sage Anat Shenker-Osorio on how you can fight back against Trump II, create "social proof," mobilize your community, stop waiting for Democrats, and start getting it DONE" https://the.ink/p/watch-an-actual-plan-to-beat-fascism?r=f0qfn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

Now has declared himself the King .

This is a nightmare of epic proportions. We must stop this. This is against everything the United States stands for I’m sick. I feel sick sick sick.

Are ANY REPUBLICANS EVER going to grow a spine? I'm sick of hearing what the Democrats need to do. This is on the Republicans.
Susan Collins is very concerned.
Susan Collins is certain Trump has learned his lesson. And he has, since the lesson is nothing will be done to stop him.
I’m not happy with Susan Collins. She’s decided to stick with the party and vote in almost every one of Trump’s cabinet picks. She’ll voice opposition to her party’s often terrible picks (Supreme Court) and then join in with her sidekicks.
Every single time. She’s Lucy with the football and Charlie Brown is us or anyone who cares about democracy.

Susan Collins talks the talk but fails to walk the walk.
We need a frown button
Susan Collin’s has been useless and is responsible for the Roe debacle (believing kavanaugh), and her capitulation to smooth-talking liars now in positions to destroy the country. She’s way past her expiration date.
🤬
I live in New England. Nobody up here believes Susan Collins anymore.
😂
absolutely. Just a handful of republicans could turn this train wreck around!
Bur they won't because they are afraid of Musks money.
They have no spines or balls.
I think we have our answer, don’t we?
I’ll look into this for sure! I am unfamiliar with this side of things.
He is a traitor - as well as every Republican who has abdicated responsibility to their constituents and betrayed their oath to the Constitution.
If Vance takes over, he won’t be popular, but he has the tech bros behind him with money to make sure their plan to burn down the country succeeds.
You forgot money in addition to power and ego. And he’s been drooling for a Trump Tower in Moscow for years.
Hey Trump, you need to close the windows at your place in the Trump Toweerrrrrrr.
If what we are witnessing was fiction we wouldn’t believe it got published.
Please excuse "my french", but FUCK TRUMP and FUCK Putin!
Especially Trump. Trump is a god damn TRAITOR.
Hey, no worries (about your french)! Meanwhile, FUCK Musk and FUCK Vance!
Now there's a plan I can get behind. Just make it VERY SOON!
Kudos!!
Treason is obvious. Giving comfort to the enemy is a treasonous act.
I am literally embarrassed to be an American at this point.
Time to stop pretending that the US government is legitimate. It isn’t.
Take the time you need. The rest of us want to stay informed.
This could have been stopped by McConnell and the repubs 4 years ago. This is all on them, traitors to the Constitution and all Americans.
failure to convict trump in his impeachment opened the flood gates for his coup.
I lay ALL of this at the feet of Mitch McConnell. He didn't have the balls to get the senate to convict tRump the second time saying our justice system would take care of tRump.
And here we are......
Also sending my condolences to you, Maria, for having to put up with such insensitive comments.
We all know you meant to use the word "complicit", Doug. :)
Ugh. Auto correct is your enema.
Thanks for a giggle, Douglas.
And the Dems are also complicit.
Where are the living Presidents from the last 40 years making any statements of opposition?
Thank you for voicing this, Amy. there were good reasons why Victor Orban visited Mar-a-Lago and Republican gatherings.
I heard that members of Orban's peers may have helped write Project 2025...
Source: Paul Krugman's substack... interview.
Aside from the fact that Dems are out of power and there’s no shadow government, why would allies trust anything anyone from the US says? And which Dems would have the spines to meet with our allies? They won’t even stand up for their voters.
Hold on folks…it’s only going to get more rough from here on out…
Oh God - we've been saying and hearing that since November 6th. I can't even define 'rough' anymore.
Putin’s payday: Trump sells out America - and Ukraine.

If he removes all “DEI” military, or they resign and refuse to serve under him, he will not have the military strength nor scale to occupy nor march.
It still leaves him WMD, which is terrifying, and he has said in past years he wants to use these… :(
