Jay,

I'm a Minnesota reader, and I'm disappointed that you would promote Angie Craig. LGBTQ+ or not (and I myself am also a member of that community), she is clearly the more moderate of our two Senate candidates. I would have hoped that you would choose instead to promote Peggy Flanagan, who has a far more progressive agenda and who would still be a fantastic choice for diversity given her Indigenous heritage.

If you happen to read this and care to respond, I would really like to hear more about why you are backing Craig over Flanagan. I respect your opinions, insight, and journalism, and I want to understand.

I agree FM Druid. I'm also in mn and Angie has sided with Trump more than any other democrat. She voted for the laken Riley act. She gets funding from alpac and crypto currency. I am voting for Peggy Flanagan. Angie is not our friend

Just reversed my donation. This is infuriating. I rarely donate to political candidates anymore. I put my money elsewhere.

Hi Jay,

I'm a huge fan of yours!, and wonder if

you are aware of this?:

Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan holds a highly progressive record on LGBTQ+ rights. Throughout her career, she has been a vocal supporter of gender-affirming care and transgender rights, receiving endorsements from major advocacy groups like OutFront Minnesota Action and being named the 2025 Ally of the Year by Twin Cities Pride.Key Positions and ActionsTransgender Rights & Healthcare: She is an active defender of transgender youth and adults, supporting executive orders that protect and preserve access to gender-affirming care in Minnesota.

Statewide Advocacy: As Lieutenant Governor, she has consistently used her platform to speak out against national anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, framing trans equality alongside reproductive freedom and immigrant rights.

Coalition Building: Her outspoken support for the queer and trans communities has made her a targeted advocate, even receiving death threats for her defense of transgender Minnesotans.

Senate Campaign: Running for the U.S. Senate, she earned the backing of the majority of Minnesota's queer legislators. Notably, major LGBTQ+ groups support her progressive platform on civil rights over her opponent's, despite her opponent historically being the first lesbian to represent the state in Congress.

Jay,

I'm a reader from Minnesota and I'm disappointed that you would be promoting Angie Craig for Senate. She's a moderate corporate Democrat taking tons of dark money from PACS especially from AIPAC. Craig also has an A rating from the crypto industry. We need a progressive champion in the US Senate like Peggy Flanagan - a candidate that will be a champion for everyday people and will work to initiate the reforms we desperately need to save our democracy. Angie Craig is not who we need in this moment. The fact that Angie is a lesbian is irrelevant.

I think Peggy Flanagan would be a better advocate for LGBTQ folks. By endorsing Craig, I'm more and more worried that HRC is a corporate Dem outfit

My fellow Minnesotans have already laid out the reasons to support Peggy Flanagan over Angie Craig. I’m curious, Jay. Did you know how angry Minnesotans are at Angie before now? Did you look into her opponent, to see if Angie would be an improvement in any way? (Spoiler:no.) Is it simply that she’s openly LGBTQ+?

I write as a Minnesotan, and a big fan of your writing and commentary, Jay. I am disappointed that you personally and HRC organizationally are putting your good reputation behind Angie Craig.

$11 million in outside money is already flowing into her campaign from corporate PACs funded by all the wrong people - the Crypto crowd, Chevron, the AI technocrats and AIPAC. She was very late in condemning ICE, even as Minnesota was under siege by their goons. She voted for the Laken-Riley Act, and she consistently votes to support the crypto industry.

Peggy Flanagan, on the other hand, refuses all corporate donations. As our Lt. Governor she has fought for paid family leave and raising the minimum wage and is a true fighter for our democracy and against the elites.

We should be way past the time an out lesbian gets the nod from HRC just because she is a lesbian. C'mon, we are fighting for the soul of our nation right now. Peggy Flanagan, not Angie Craig, is the person we need to help lead that fight. She is the true progressive and is backed by the Senate's Fight Club with Elizabeth Warren and Tina Smith and several others.

Hi Jay,

Big fan of your work. I am disappointed you are supporting Chris Pappas. Not a fan of his stance on Israel and receipt of AIPAC dollars. He also voted for the Laken Riley Act and the gratitude for ICE bill. Here is NH, we need a progressive voice, so I support Karishma Manzur.

Kai Kinzer's avatar

I just vetted the candidates, and agree with you, Margaret. AIPAC is Pappas's largest donor. Manzur's campaign is financed entirely by noncorporate, small donors. Also is truly a progressive.

Jay, I'm a huge fan of yours. But I don't understand why, in politics, you believe someone's sexuality is more important than their beliefs and/or integrity for advancing LGTBQ rights.

We have to get candidates elected who have the guts to stand firm and turn this fiasco around. The blatant hypocrisy here of Lady Lindsey and Trump himself drooling in public over male bodies while LGBTQ+ military are being thrown out of their chosen careers is A JOKE, if it weren't so tragic. Every new day in this country has become nearly unbearable to face.

Por favor, remember. They can't just be gay, they've got to be angry, loud, a bit aggressive and they have to have that smooth 'Mamdani' ... whatever it is. All that is great ~

I am a constant reader and I have something to share that I feel strongly about and would like to get to a wider audience. Hope you'll have a chance to take a look. The author is a former colleague from 30+ years back and I didn't know most of his backstory. The writing IMHO is exceptional; the story, powerful. In the meantime, thank you for all you do for the world. Here's the link. https://michaelccamunez.substack.com/p/an-unimaginable-life

I've been on his mailing list for months and he sounds good, but I did not know Chris Pappas was gay. I guess for Democrats t's unremarkable. I keep being surprised about elected Democrats who turn out to be gay.

Sorry, Jay. I did not support Barney Frank (my congressman for more than 30 years) because he was gay or Jewish. I did not support Barack Obama because he was Black. I did not support Hillary Clinton or Kamala Harris because they are women (or, in Kamala's case, because she's a woman of color). Chriss Pappas seems good, and I hope he gets in, but his sexual orientation does not matter. As for Angie Craig, I don't know enough to say one way or the other.

YES! Angie Craig should NOT have supported the Lakein Riley Act, but she has been a very good Representative for Minnesota. Let's elect TWO openly gay Democratic senators
