It’s been quite a week in politics, and the internet had a lot of material to work with.
It began with Ron DeSantis dropping out, and who better to lead us into the week than mimic extraordinaire, Matt Friend. Sound on for this clip:
Given DeSantis’s war on women, minorities and the LGBTQ+ community in Florida, few on the left were sad to see him go.
That draconian Florida abortion ban was on many minds.
The Mueller, She Wrote account brought us back to this moment…
…so it was good to hear from Gov. Newsom himself on DeSantis’s departure from the race.
Given the snub at the Oscars, this GIF won the moment. Click to savor.
Florida Democrats were pleased to chime in…
…as were some Biden allies.
In meme crossover land, this was savage.
And, yes, this is how we’ll remember you, Ron.
Remember when Newsom made this prediction?
DeSantis mocked the Republicans who would stoop to kiss it … and then he did it.
Attention turned to Nikki Haley as the sole remaining challenger to Trump’s dominance in the GOP primary. And Trump promptly confused her for (checks notes) Nancy Pelosi.
Meanwhile, former candidate and definitely straight as an arrow Sen. Tim Scott proposed to his beard.
Many saw this ruse as a play to be by Trump’s, and not his new wife’s, side.
This clip is easily the best moment on the subject.
Sen. Scott stood behind Trump at his victory rally in New Hampshire and said things like, “I just love you” to Trump. Out loud.
This was so good!

Trump wound up not doing as well among more centrist New Hampshire voters, who broke heavily for Haley, with many saying they couldn’t support Trump. Haley’s election night speech sounded defiant, which really unnerved Trump. The right tried to mock her, but got shut down quickly.
The high number of anti-Trump voters bodes poorly for Trump’s general election prospects, and the Biden Campaign began a rapid response campaign to call out Trump’s gaffes, meanness and vulnerability.
My favorite is this tweet, a special call-out to that amazing Melania campaign.
Then there was the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial, which put his lawyer, Alina Habba, in the spotlight. But not in a good way.
Habba famously declared she preferred to be pretty because you can “fake smart,” which turns out not to be true at all. She couldn’t seem to control her client, who was admonished several times and then stormed out of the courtroom during closing arguments.
When the jury verdict was announced, the internet pretty much exploded. This is a sample of just a few comments from my feed.
Ron Filipkowski of the MeidasTouch Network had some zingers.
The cross-references are honestly what do it for me. Like this meme…
Shout out to the late great Sen. John McCain.
And to the wall that was never built.
And to current events:
Alex Cole was referring to Charlie Kirk, who worried aloud about the safety of passengers on planes piloted by Black pilots. Really.
This needed to be answered. You can click to jump to the post and expand the photos.
In other political news, Elise “The Worst” Stefanik continued to receive blowback from referring to the insurrectionist criminal defendants as “hostages.” A hero on the internet found this:
And Gov. Abbott, with the encouragement of his fellow GOP state governors, stated he would defy the Supreme Court on its order granting the border patrol the right to resume cutting and removing deadly razor wire at the border. On the right, there was a lot of chatter about a brewing “civil war”—but it feels like empty politicized talk.
Ted Cruz tried it, but got reminded of his own courage.
And Beto O’Rourke brought the whole week home with this succinct take.
Meanwhile, in the animal world, I sympathize with this doggo because I just assume there is a glass door I will bump into otherwise. Watch the clip here.
Your fun fowl fact of the day was demonstrated in this clip.
Before we think chickens are weird, humans do funny things like gender reveal parties. This one has to be watched to the end.
Humans also set up needless but inspired contraptions for their food. Behold this reel:
And this kid made my day with his perseverance. Watch his multiple attempts here.
This was one of the funniest comments I’d seen in a long while:
I leave you with a dad joke to send you off into your weekend:
Have a great Saturday!

Charlie Kirk is gonna freak when he learns we have Black astronauts.
Oh Man! This was an awesome collection! Matt Friend is my new favorite! And poor Ron DeSantis. Has he no shame!? 🤣🤣 The Tim Scott moments made me feel embarrassed for him. 😂
Appreciate this column...a great start to the weekend! 💙✌️
