I see a parallel with the Republican Party and the Freedom Caucus.

The Republican Party is a minority of American voters.

The Freedom Caucus is a minority of the House Republicans.

Each is trying to impose its will on their majority.

Now McCarthy is feeling the same kind of pain that he and Republicans have been trying to impose on the Democrats and the American People.

I guess it is a kind of karma where you reap what you have sown.

Mistake #4: Do not negotiate with Seditionists who want the right to stop the House from funtioning at all by a plurality vote of one (1) & who are very, angry the House is fully funded through Fiscal 2023.

"angry the House is fully funded through Fiscal 2023."

The only feeling I have is to stick out my tongue at McC. on the screen and shout; So there you wishy-washy politician in it for only yourself!

Stefanik only two heartbeats from the presidency? Talk about a security risk! She is so far up trump’s a$$ when he speaks you can see her little eyeballs blinking in there. She has no principles and no ethics. That prospect terrifies me.

I hate leveraged power. A majority that is controlled from within by a majority, in turn controlled from within by a majority etc. so that ultimately a tiny minority (in this case 20 right wing congresspeople) gets to make the calls for the entirety is exactly the holding company model that helped create the 1929 stock market crash.

I know that the Democrats on the hill are expressing in glee over this. They should not be. This level of instability in the GOP at a time when they control the House of Representatives has catastrophic potential. If instead, Democrats could form a coalition with enough moderate Republicans to freeze out the treasonous and insurrectionist element in the GOP by supporting a moderate candidate for speaker of the house, it would automatically recreate a bipartisanship that has been missing for decades and might well carry forwards past these troubled times.

Kevin McCarthy has been riding the fence for so long, he doesn't have an huevos left. This isn't a "power grab" it's more like a "fondle". He deserves this and more. Let's hope that R's try someone other than Scalese or Stefanik (barf).

If they get desperate enough to vote Stefanik as speaker, it will be pure hell and chaos for 2 years. And it won't be much better with Scalise.

I think, a big problem will be to get consensus back. So I (repectfully) ask the Democrats, not to watch this desaster for your democracy, with glee. The next two years for this congress the Democrat's caucus should reach over the aisle with any legislation and then, anytime there's no compromise in sight proceed with progressive legislation. That will mean nearly no progress for those next two years, the moderate constituents will hopefully see, who was the real obstacle within your government ...

Please, can we stop calling the conservative wing of the Democratic Party "moderates" or in this case "moderate constituents?" They are squarely within where the Republican Party used to be, sometimes more conservative than Ronald Reagan was.

I could not agree more.

Can’t he go on brand and say he will concede to all of their demands and then NOT implement them once elected?

If they go with a plurality, right now Jeffries would win.

McCarthy is continuing his epic fail-fest with the GQP clown-car voting him down three MORE times today. They seem to be planning to come back at 8 pm to continue the flogging . . .

Maybe they're hoping a bunch of folks will lose interest and not show up for the vote???

McCarthy has earned Cheetolini's hastag: #loser

Loved the jokes. McCarthy's #1 mistake - negotiating with terrorists - also had an implied joke: Since they "either want power or revenge," that should be a no-brainer for McC, since he wants both.

But here's another joke: *trump for Speaker! Since his ultimate goal is the presidency to keep him out of prison and create hyper-chaos, being Speaker would be his most direct route. No long and expensive campaign, no need for stolen election shenanigans, and being two heartbeats away from the presidency would allow The Don to reach his goal with two well-placed hits.

My personal belief is that the one real card that Donald Trump has left to play is to threaten to disrupt the Republican presidential aspirations for 2024 (with either a third-party run or as the actual candidate) unless the emergent GOP candidate absolutely promises him a pardon if elected.

It is correctly "Stefanik" not "Stephanik"

I don't think these really were mistakes, because he had no options. In his position, the old adage goes of "there is only one winning move, and that is not to play". Of course, not playing would only help him; almost any other candidate else would either be in the same position, or would be an unelectable fringe candidate.

I can think of one way forward, although it is somewhat unlikely to happen: revoke all concessions McCarthy made, then ask Liz Cheney to be Speaker of the House (since the Speaker doesn't have to be a member of the House, that should be possible) with the votes of Democrats as well as at least a few Republicans.

If you have to make so many compromises to be liked you lose your self worth and stand for nothing. How can you lead a House when you concede to every demand thus abasing yourself and the very worth of your constituents trust?
