Excellent idea to keep the focus on that trio. As a bonus it might be worthwhile to play a few clips of Jim Jordan upon occasion.

I'd like to play some clips from Gomer Pyle USMC and put some of their faces on the characters. In fact, I would like to include them in the Beverly Hill Billies too. How about George Santos' face on Ellie Mae in this clip, with Trump as Jed, and MTG as Grandma.

Can you see Jim Jordan's face on that of the Bully in this clip? https://youtu.be/V7HYNMfWpHg

Prithee you are able to continue. As for the subject of today's commentary. I shall warrant the penultimate sentence in obituary of most current members of the House Republican Caucus will be: (Insert name) fell from the top of the stupid tree, hit every branch on the way down, climbed to the top, and repeated the exercise.

Has anyone ever suggested to MGT that, if she doesn't want to be called a white supremacist, she should maybe - just maybe - stop acting like one? Since first she said she wasn't one and then she made a racist remark about her colleague?

Marge Motor-Mouth doesn't seem to know what is spilling out. Peach tree dishes, Jewish space lasers, the gazpacho police, "joining the military is like throwing your life away," saying Monkey Pox was an STD, global warming is actually healthy for us (OK, Marge, you are from that hot, humid "peach tree dish" known as Georgia, so ok, but the rest of us don't think so.), 1/6 was "just a little riot," and best, Walmart is grooming children because sex toys are near toothbrushes.

I'm going to nominate MGT for Trump's running mate due to her mouthy attitude, but genius orange-skin is not going accept her due she is not his type(not confusing her as Marla).

Or Malaria. How similar the names of #2 and #3. Never thought if that before.

Great compilation re MTG including one I hadn't heard about re sex toys/toothbrushes. She is absolutely a classic example of a case of logorrhea: "An excessive and often uncontrollable flow of words."

White supremacists don’t think of themselves as white supremacists. Or, to the extent they do, they don’t see it as something wrong, but as the correct proper “Christian“ way to view the world.

Yes, Democrats would do well to keep these three up in front, with a fair seasoning of Jordan and Gosar. They should also include references to how stupid Marge Three Names is (peach tree dish, Jewish space lasers), the fact that Marge, BoBo and the unlamented Madison Crawford all ran on family values, and all had their marriages dissolve before their term ended (for the "Christian" Nationalists). [Aside in Marge's case, it made her get a better hair stylist, likely because she's enjoying the reverse of #MeToo by nailing any male in the room. I know, a catty comment, but it seems to fit my observations of her behavior.]

On the fund-raising front, Jay, you may want to look to NPR for a model -- periodic membership drives wherein all content is free to everyone with appeals. Plan the cycle you need (four times a year? I don't think you could sustain two) and implement. Put the most provocative pieces on during your drive. You and NPR have a similar MO. So says this former development officer.

ALSO, is it allowed on Substack if you were to apply for a grant to keep your pieces going in the public interest?

“Understanding that he must put faces and names to the GOP absurdity”

YES!! No more generic “some people on the other side of the aisle say...”, “there are members of Congress who have...”, and similar.

Call them out BY NAME.

Although obviously, there is still some work to be done:

“As Jeffries pointed out

‘I think it’s an incredible contrast that on Wednesday, extreme MAGA Republicans in the House defend, coddle, and continue to play footsie with serial fraudster George Santos...’ “

He named Santos, but didn’t name the “extreme MAGA Republicans“ that he was actually talking about.

Refusing to call them out by name out of some false sense of decorum, or politeness, or norms, is suicidal. When somebody is coming at you with a knife, intent on doing your serious injury, you don’t sheepishly describe them as “The gentleman with the blade.”

You are what you tolerate. Three is a workable (memorable) number, and Jay / Jeffries picked the strongest examples of the core rot

Expand full comment

I think the list would be long enough that to recite it would distract from his primary point, that MAGA Republicans in the House are willing to live with an [alleged, under indictment) crook and documented serial liar to keep Santos simply because they need his vote.

Expand full comment

Fiar point. But on the other hand, reciting a list of people and what they've said in defense of Santos/Trump/whatever deplorable could also be effective.

"Did any leader of the Republican party even acknowledge his crimes? Did McCarthy? No, he called Santos "a valued member". Did McConnel? No, he said Santos was "victim of a witch hunt". Did Lyndsey Graham? No, he said "blah blah blah". Did Ted Cruz? No, he said "blather lie blather". Did ...."

The fact it's a long list can be compelling. And the repetition, like "I have a dream" over and over, is a very effective oratorical technique.

Is Three Names oblivious to the fact that both of the Bowman situations she mentioned were documented on video that proves her to be a racist liar?

As I see it, pointed public outrage (most splendidly by NY voters) has brought Santos to his not so dandy ‘situation’. It has defended Disney in it’s Reasonableness vs DeSantis (look at him now-his announcement to run for POTUS will float like a lead balloon). There’s no reason Margie can’t be brought to heel. (Also lets not forget Ted Cruz, eh?)

I love how she plays the victim when she is called out on her shenanigans but has no problem chasing and harassing school shooting victims!! It is nice to see the democrats calling out the bullshit of the repugnants and dumpster for that matter !! It's so nice for dumpster to continue with his confessions of his continued crimes . It should help out the prosecutor's! What will the next week show with the repugnants to bring down democracy !! This is laudable, but it is the weak process of saying, 'it's them, and we're not then'... rather than doing what the majority of US Citizens really want to hear and see, and that is M4All, GND, Social Justice, higher taxes on the wealthy, significant gun control and investments in education and infrastructure... but that isn't really the interest of the Neoliberal Leadership of the DNC, who work for the benefit of their benefactors in wealth management and the MIC and healthcare for profit industries.

When the Democratic Party and all their members push for what 70-80% of the voting public want... ie, the above progressive policies, then, and only then, will the raise of fascism be stopped. Until then, it is all smoke and mirrors by the DNC and a dangerous line keeping the balance for a status quo that only serves those in power to remain in power for oligarchy. JMHO

Example to support- Diane feinstein, she needs to resign and Democratic leadership and senators, Mr. Durbin need to make the sane decision if she can't.

And President Biden must not compromise with rethuglicans on debt limit, and listen to membets of his own party to use the 14th amendment.

As a Democratic voter it's getting exhausting and tiring to elect them and see them act in impotent ways. I can not imagine their plight, and beyond worried for the young/er generations.😱😰

Mona, I left the Democratic Party after a lifetime of trying to implement change both inside and outside after seeing the death grip corporate greed the Oligarchs have on the neoliberal party leadership. They don't want to do the right thing, they just want to avoid competition from within the party (Progressives) and maintain the same kind of conflict that the RNC has on their members regarding culture issues like abortion etc... just imagine if they actually solved peoples problems, what kind of world would it be for them? My snark and sarcasim is showing to brightly. That's why I am trying to constantly inform people, on both sides... they are being played for cultural or hatred issues to keep them ginned up, thus avoiding exposing the real problem, money and power in politics, which neither leadership side wants to let go of. Both parties have lost the majority of citizens, that majority is now the independent block, and in the end, everyone gets the crumbs while the wealthy and powerful run away with the store.

Expand full comment

Agreed 100%; it's a fact of today's, for decades now, politics, and probably everywhere.

Money & power weakens the democratic powers while weakening voters' power and we the people are the losers.

Expand full comment

Yes, good governance should be the focus of the Democratic party.

But messaging is important too. For example, so many people still believe that conservatives are better economic managers despite _so much_ evidence to the contrary. Or that there are only a small minority of extremists in the GOP, when in truth they are in complete control of the party and 'reasonable' Republicans are not standing up against them.

Expand full comment

Flic, I did say the comments were laudable, and yes, Democrats surely need to point out the significant damage and hypocrisy of what is now the GOP/GQP politicians.

But to leave it at that is, and has been leaving the door open to failure. It is why traditional former working class blue collar workers voted for the 'shit throwing orange monkey,' and why many will continue to support those who continue to give them reason to hate and fear others, no matter the evidence to the contrary.

The Democrats, or a new Progressive party need to provide substantial solutions to problems, not just keep pointing out the flaws in others.

The neoliberal leadership of the DNC doesn't want to side with the real solutions people want because it is against those interests of the people who fund the party leadership. This leadership constantly plays a balancing act to appease both the left (with words and small incremental actions) and their oligarch masters on Wall Street etc... who provide the funding) to not change the status quo... ie, their positions of power, greed and wealth.

Until 'good liberals' understand this game, and understand the corporate media is playing them for fools for their owners, who are the same people who own the DNC... NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE!

We will constantly be dancing on the edge of the fascist sword because Democratic leadership constantly resist that which people really want... SOLUTION, not finger pointing.

JMHO
