THIS is how Democrats should respond every time Republicans do crap like Jordan’s been doing. Forcefully, directly, without holding back.

No vague euphemisms or allusions. No failing to name names. No more “When members of Congress seek to politicize the judicial process...” and more “Jim Jordan is threatening my daughter because he wants to help Trump break the law.”

Had Democrats been doing more of this from the beginning we wouldn’t be where we are.

Meanwhile, Bragg downgrades more than half of felonies and crime runs rampant: https://yuribezmenov.substack.com/p/how-to-escape-from-new-york-part-35b

The statistics show that crime is down in NYC following Bragg’s election.

From the Columbus Dispatch:

"A spokesperson for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Monday took a swipe at U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, saying the conservative lawmaker should be focused on violent crime in his own backyard rather than 500 miles away.

"If Chairman Jordan truly cared about public safety, he could take a short drive to Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Akron or Toledo in his home state, instead of using taxpayer dollars to travel hundreds of miles out of his way," they said.

Crime is down in NYC in all major categories.

Damn, there are those pesky facts getting in the way of you being a troll. Must suck to be you.

From Bragg v Jordan: “year-to-date statistics for New York City, and Manhattan specifically, continue to trend downward: homicides are down 14.3% and down further in Manhattan; shooting incidents are down 17.3%; rapes are down 33.3% and down further in Manhattan;robbery is down 7.6% anddown further inManhattan;andburglary isdown21% and down further in Manhattan. Total index crimes are down 1.3% in Manhattan, despite being up slightly citywide.”

Three cheers for AG Bragg for responding to the totally hypocritical scoundrel Jordan with the overwheming firepower that he deserves. And three more cheers for Jay for explaining it all with much more detail and depth than we get from journalists.

You are an excellent writer. Loved how you ended your post with the twist from the old saying make hay,….

Anyone else tired of having to pay Jim Jordan's salary? I wish we had a checklist to pick and choose where our taxes actually go. I would uncheck the vast majority of the GOP lawmakers. If any of us, in our regular jobs, pulled the crap they do, we'd be fired within hours.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that politicians (and justices) don’t live by the same rules as we do.

Jordan is a blustery blowhard, lacking insight, depth of understanding, wisdom, discernment, professionalism, and a while host of other notables attributed to people of integrity. This is another example of, say, MTG v Raskin...

Bragg to Jordan:

Officially pound sand.

Hooray for Bragg! 👏👏👏 The only effective way to deal with bullies is to deliver a harder punch than they can. A sad situation, but that’s the only language they understand. “Taking the high road” just invites more bullying.

If there is low or high road to take, I think Bragg took the high road.

The irony of using the law to stop the law-makers from breaking the law is not lost on many of us. I can’t wait to see how Jordan moves his next chess piece. He is not smart and it is likely to be amusing. Thanks for taking us through the hay… sometimes these days I really wish I had gone to law school instead getting a degree in modern dance. (True, btw)

A degree in modern dance can bring far more joy to this world that another lawyer!

Again, a clear cut, point by point analysis that anyone can digest. Thanks for that. And HURRAY for DA Bragg...he's smart as hell and gives me hope there is still fairness in the world. 👏👏👏

Jay, thanks for breaking this down for those of us without a JD 💙

I do love a legal thriller. 😉👍 Jordon and others are scared. If tRump has to actually pay for his crimes then they will too! Being a politician does NOT mean you are above the law.

Thank you In our system of govt . --separation of powers, within a federalist system,--this is a strong example how issues should play out. Some authoritarian countries do not wait for the third branch to help settle disputes, but instead change the fundamental rules and powers. Or govt. leaders ignore the courts, while changing the ways judges are appointed or elected. I confess I was not an A student in Constitutional Law; I sympathize many of these concepts are not fully appreciated, nor understood. My dissent is with your title, a take off from Empire Strikes Back. Cute, but stay away from those type of comparisons. By injecting hollywood type concepts into basics of our government structure, you inadvertently weaken the understanding of our separation of powers; worse, from a political sense, you give fuel to the fire that Bragg is on a political vendetta, rather than pursuing justice.

I try where I can to add a bit of levity and sometimes theatricality, as is my other calling, but admittedly it doesn’t always play well to some.

Funny, the Star Wars allusion didn’t occur to me at all. I read it as a straightforward counterpunch by Bragg.

You still speak of Fani Willis' work as a major threat to T****. Should that be tempered due to the new Georgia law intended to remove her from the picture (and install William Barr? :) )

Expand full comment

We will have to see. The indictments will drop most likely sometime in may after this hearing challenging the investigative grand jury. The new GA law takes effect in 2024. They won’t have much by way of new developments by which to act against her, but since we are in the era not just of vote suppression but of democracy suppression, I would not rule out a play against her.

I dug through several pages of the lawsuit while I was writing an article over on Medium. Bragg's statements even in just the first 6 are downright damning!

Not even counting the threats and rhetoric of intimidation, but just the overreach of the House Committee is galling.

Is governance via litigation how we’re doing things now?

I like to think of it as litigation to permit governance to proceed as it should.

Hey Jay - thanks, as always, for the thought-provoking write-up. I have a (mostly unrelated) question which perhaps you could cover in a future update?

Wondering what the implications of Democrat RFK Jr announcing his intention to run for POTUS in 2024. He has a ton of name recognition but he’s a wacky anti-vaxxer. I assume he’d run as Independent, but would that split the vote for Biden (or whomever the DNC ultimately nominates after primaries). Augh! Don’t make this harder, dude!

Thanks,

Caro
