I just hope Meadows doesn’t get a get-out-of-jail-free card. He was complicit in all of this and needs to be held accountable as a traitor to the United States.

IMO, if he got limited immunity or a plea to probation, that is JUST fine if he helps seal the deal. He was in the room. I'm not so sure about total immunity, he has to have a horse in the race to be believable.

Yeah - doubtful he pleads to any felonies if he doesn't have to; I think he can still have something of a career if he pleads to a couple of misdemeanors and does no time. Fine with me, as long as the Orange thing does, along with some other associated slime. BUT - he will have to deliver chapter and verse for leniency.

It appears it will be a lesser charge in exchange for testimony.

Thx so much for that clarification!

Heinz 51?

I’m from Pittsburgh, birthplace of the H.J. Heinz company, and the correct phrase is “Heinz 57.” Maybe that’s just a typo, but in light of the 🍊🤡’s ketchup-throwing tantrums, I feel compelled to correct this 🤣.

PS, why is there no ketchup emoji?

Expand full comment

Yes that’s a typo!

I caught that, too! But the rest of this essay is SO satisfying! I just hope Meadows does not have immunity. Perhaps a lighter sentence but not immunity.

If it took giving him immunity, I'm fine with that because of the extremely high level his testimony could represent. I'd guess something like probation.

I was about to make the same comment. I wonder if Jay was thinking of "Area 51."

Expand full comment

Ha, yes! Area 51 🤣🤣

You beat me to it! 😉

Definitely a typo, what with the ketchup reference. OR a combination of metaphors as Kenmason57 pointed out below. You know after the recent assertions of intact alien spacecraft.

The more people realize you are willing to toss them under the bus on your way up, the more likely they are to toss you under the bus on the way down. This is my deep thought of the day, and I am sticking with it.

It is interesting how loyalty flies out the door when threat of prison hangs over a persons head. Especially these guys, these people who have no loyalty, except to their own self preservation and betterment.

Expand full comment

I think it's also becoming abundantly clear to many in tfg's inner circle that the loyalty isn't returned. They've now seen so many others thrown under the bus.

Oh joy Cannot wait for it all to come out. Also I think Jim Jordan and company are quaking in their boots as they too may be implicated. Maybe the two crazies in the senate. I hope

Does the name Haldeman ring a bell? His lawyer told the judge that whatever Haldeman did, Nixon did too. Nixon pardoned and Haldeman went to the slammer. Conspiracy, obstruction of justice, lying.

Here's to hoping.

How about talking about why certain republicans keep kissing Trump's boots.

Is it:

A, that they don't want mud slung at them?

Or

B, that they desperately hope and need a pardon.

Like MTG and her liver McCarthy, Gym Jordan, Lindsey Graham, etc. You know the list.

I'm really grateful to Jay for providing us detailed explanations. I'm also really grateful to President Obama for appointing Judge Beryl Howell to become a U.S. District Judge of the U. S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She is going to be facing an incredible workload in the months and years ahead when all the indictments for January 6 and the MAL stolen documents cases come raining down. And, sadly, she will probably be facing threats from the various militias supporting djt and others.

Man, there is SO MUCH to consider with Meadows... like everyone here, I am READY for the truth to be told and for this American nightmare to end. Now, what do we do about these people who have been (and still are) so easily misled by 45? These people have no critical thinking skills... our society isnt very smart and I think that is a problem. And yes, that ending poem was delicious! Thank you Jay!

I still hold him in contempt. Well, both of them.

Jay, I have a question for you. Is it possible that the Florida grand jury seating occurred as a response to Trump's legal team going to see Jack Smith? I know both announcements were recent, but I don't know the actual timing, nor how long it takes to stand up a grand jury. I'm concerned that Trump's team may have successfully gotten these issues moved to the land of DeSantis and Aileen Cannon and make it impossible to seat a jury that doesn't have at least one MAGA who will be unwilling, under any circumstances, to convict their lord.

Since Jay is apparently on a plane headed for Dayton, I'll point you to Joyce Vance who covered this topic quite clearly last night on her Civil Discourse Substack. She especially discussed venue and its importance to the cases.

You are welcome. Civil Discourse makes a brilliant companion to The Status Quo so I heartily recommend signing up. Besides, her chickens are adorable. Kind of like Hudson.

At the end of all this, the one thing we're left with is the amazing assumption on the part of these blatant conspirators that they were smart enough to pull it off. Classic example of the D-K effect: "...the Dunning–Kruger effect is often misunderstood as a claim about general overconfidence of people with low intelligence instead of specific overconfidence of people unskilled at a particular task." Did most supporters of TFG assume he (and they) would get away with this because a president had never been convicted before? Well, surprise! And thanks for the ditty!
