News broke late yesterday in the Wall Street Journal that the Justice Department is preparing to sue the state of Texas over its restrictive and draconian abortion ban, with an action coming as early as today.
One wonders how all of the ardent Catholics now on SCOTUS will perform intellectual gymnastics to avoid the implications of this one. God forbid, their private religious views be unable to control public policy.
I have nothing to add here except that it's just insane that we're having this conversation in 2021. Women fought for control of our bodies when I was just a damn kid, having NO idea what all the hubub was about. Now that I know, understand, and have been affected personally, it's become clear that this is a fight we'll never win. We'll just have to keep fighting, it seems, forever. Because there'll always be people who, through government, will try to take away our rights in the interest of control. Make no mistake. That's exactly what this is about. CONTROL.
Bravo 😁 I just knew there had to be something to tear this insanity down ⬇️🙌 GO Get them 🇺🇸💜 President BIDENS beliefs in Womens Rights.. he's Not 🚫 following his own feelings or projecting them he's acting on the Behavior of the United States of America &Our personal choice..... RIGHTS 💕🇺🇸
From day one I spoke out that the Texas law is in point of fact unconstitutional..Even within that besieged state it should have been dismissed on the face of it. Handing over to any and all individuals responsibility of vigilantieism creates a chaotic unbalanced state where law enforcement and citizen vie for a chance at becoming bounty hunters. Putting a price on the heads of girls and women for exercising their constitutional right to maintain the health and well being of their own bodies.
I imagine that the first suit brought to court in Texas under this law will find that the random person reporting the “crime” will be found not to have standing because they will not have been harmed in any way. Suit dismissed (hopefully).
I'm not sure what you implying to but on this article on abortion right's I'm in favor of any past set present laws to more forward and NOTHING is done fast in this legislative government!!!
What I’m questioning is whether the federal government has standing to bring such an action against Texas. I imagine they could get a Texas citizen to be a co-plaintiff to avoid that problem.
We better hope that this works women’s rights all over the country are being stripped away all while they scream my body my choice over a damned mask.

Thank you for this. I had read this already in another article but didn't quite "get it". You clarified it for me.

What about the standing problem?

That may be the intent but it’s never gone to court before. It will be interesting to see what happens.
