Is Elmer Stewart Rhodes actually unhinged - or is this a role he plays? The man is a veteran and a Yale Law School graduate (who won an award there). He worked as a staffer for US Rep Ron Paul (R-TX) and clerked for an associate justice at the Arizona Supreme Court. Yes, Elmer is an ultra-extremist but he's not stupid. (Okay, he accidentally shot himself in the eye, so maybe he's a little stupid.)
Elmer built the Oath Keepers into one of the most dangerous militia groups in America, and we shouldn't take him lightly. It will be very interesting to see where these convictions lead.
Oh I agree with that. I'm just saying I would not put it past him to have tried to appear insane. Though I think most of the people in these extremist groups are not fully set in reality, I do believe it's part of what makes them extremist.
The man demonstrates that it's actually possible to gaslight oneself. His estranged wife - herself in danger as one of his most outspoken accusers - provides stark testimony to his mental deterioration. According to her, he was once a sane and compassionate human being, lover, and father, but his self-delusions and obsessions have driven him far off the deep end.
pretty sad when you think about it. I mean I don't feel sorry for him because of what he's built around those delusions but it's sad to know he was once a good guy
I was wondering if he was trying to play crazy when I read that he believed "Joe Biden was an agent of the Chinese Communist Party and that, once elected, he was preparing to turn the country over to the United Nations. " Did he really believe that or was it part of his defense to be seen as insane? As you say, he's not stupid- or given his credentials he should be smart.
The admissible evidence in Court was largely Rhodes' own words & actions confirming substantial preplanning (scienter) & cogntive control of an armed militia group Before, During & After J6. Victim witness statements will bear this out in Court. Stay tuned in to the post conviction testimony.
Hoping this opens the floodgates and brings Trump and his cronies down and holds them accountable not only for the insurrection but also for lives lost that day
And not to mention holding them accountable for creating all this mental STRESS this has put good American citizens under for the past 2 years +. I don’t know that we will ever be the same people we were before.
Jay, You are the best...a breath of fresh air. Even though, yourself, are recovering from Covid, you have made me (as well as a lot of others, I'm sure) feel better. From the pictures you've previously posted, it appears you couldn't have found a better spot to recover. All the best!
Jay writes, "Notably, Rhodes also included a proposal inspired by a Serbian academic’s call for Americans to fill the streets and storm Congress." On one hand we have to think, "You can't make this stuff up," but if this doesn't sound like the conspiratorial ravings of QAnon-esque "theorist," then I don't know what does. If it weren't real, it would be as laughable as the Venezuelan voting machine tampering and Jewish sky laser hokum.
JAY, once again I want to say thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you for being there for us, for enlightening us, sometimes making us feel better, sometimes worse but knowing that we are receiving facts it’s such a comfort.
May the floodgates of justice crash through the rhetoric of trumpworld ❤️

I think you can be very intelligent and educated yet not be in reality. I have a friend who works in a mental health hospital who will attest to that.

I agree. I understand what you're saying. And Crazy or not they must face consequences.

Yes. I watched his testimony to the Jan. 6 committee.
That’s a good reminder of what we see, or think we see. Who plays a role as much as believes in the role...

One cannot underestimate the meaning of this verdict in further civil, criminal & administrative actions by the Feds and the many victims.
Oath Traitors.

Jay, I'm sorry to hear you have Covid. Take care.
Who was it that said "Stand back and stand by"?
Oh, wait, I remember, it was Conman the Vulgarian.

Excellent explanation and summation. Thank you.

Delicious news. Thanks Jay.
Just wondering why no one is stating the obvious- our republican politicians may be accountable for their actions as well.
