‘ 70-year-old Bob Judson explained, “I didn’t put much credence in it. We’ve all done things in our past that we’re sorry for. Some of the things are crazy,” before adding, “**I mean if we just went on that, we wouldn’t be here for Trump, would we?**” ‘

Man, these people are SO close to getting it.

He gets it, he just can't bring himself to change his mind. He's no doubt a bigot and a misogynist and cannot bring himself to vote for a black woman, so he has to hang on to the only other option, a white man, even if deep down inside he understands what's wrong with his choice.

Hopefully he and cult members like him will just stay home and not vote . .

That was the quote that stood out to me, too: "I mean if we just went on that, we wouldn't be here for trump would we?" Oof. How many Robinson/trump supporters are there who do "get" it but are ignoring what they know to support them?

The diehard maga cult doesn't care what any of the monsters they support engage in as long as they're sticking it to the libs and to all women. 😒

Yet the clue-bat still misses them

Maybe this is the kind of behaviour and speech they're used to with their own families and friends so they find it perfectly acceptable. I wonder if they'd accept it from their kids' teachers.

Demonstrating, once again, the poverty of decision-making skills of trump and his cronies. And now, having made his pronouncement of support, his ego won't permit him to admit his error and lack of research.

But if Robinson had done/said something that Trump perceived as a slight against him, he’d drop the endorsement in a blink of an eye.

Expand full comment

The comment with Robinson referring to himself as a Black nazi shows just how deep fascism resides with magas. Of course we already knew that from years of trump’s vitriolic racism and anti-semitism. Yet none of the more mainstream people in the old gop are brave enough to call this out. No one.

Over the weekend, Thom Tillis one of NC's US Senators said that Robinson should either explain himself if these allegations are true or sue CNN if they're false. After the mass exodus of Robinson's senior campaign staff, he said he's definitely going to sue CNN....as soon as he has his new staff in place. 😂

That's just bluster, of course. He's not going to sue CNN, because that would subject him to discovery which would be WILD! His campaign is flailing, most electeds run for the exits when asked about him, and, of course, it's reminded the public of the the 'ick factor' that most Carolinians felt after the Madison Cawthorn videos and pics came out. NORMAL people around here are asking why the republicans can't field candidates who aren't 'pervs'; even as nothing moves the godly, church-goin' MAGA crowd.

MAGAs are gonna MAGA, but Harris only needs to move a small percentage of normies to take this race from Trump. Robinson has boosted that effort.

I'm hoping Robinson's implosion also helps to tank Dan Bishop's campaign for AG.

That post from Jackson is what we call 'belling the cat.' 😂 Jeff Jackson is SUCH a higher quality candidate than Dan Bishop, I'm really hoping he wins. I haven't seen any polling on the AG race, but it's hard to believe the chaos in the Robinson campaign isn't going to affect down-ballot races.

I'm hoping it depresses GOP turnout altogether!!

And please encourage all your pro-democracy friends, family and neighbors to vote EARLY on "day 1" Oct 17th (or mail in ballots ASAP if voting by mail). Here are some gd explanations of why it is important to "vote on Day 1":

“NORMAL person”? Such a strange concept when discussing some, most often, skewed distributions of human beings.

I remember so well the musical The FantastIcks with Luisa singing “oh God, please don’t let me be normal.”

How many remember the kind of September before El Gallo became Faustian and the “Pretty Rape” became the actual rape of what is normal?

Expand full comment

The simple answer is 'norma'l refers to non-MAGAs. Normal refers to people for whom things like principles, ethics and character still count.

Trump will never withdraw his endorsement. One of his core beliefs is that he cannot ever be wrong, and therefore he must never admit error or apologize for previous conduct. Once he admits or apologizes for one error, it opens the door to the possibility that he made other errors. As a sociopathic narcissist, he simply cannot do that. So it won't happen.

Expand full comment

He's also all in on the MAGA approach to his campaign, unlike in the previous two where he kinda sorta tried to pretend to occasionally offer olive branches to centrists.

This campaign is different. This campaign is a direct challenge to Americans. He is saying, "This is who I am. Do something about it, or not."

Expand full comment

On the other hand, he's constantly cutting loose and turning on people he very recently praised. Do you think this might be different because of the endorsement?

Expand full comment

A lot of the ones he cuts loose are because they said or did something (real or imagined)

*against him* though. I think this will turn into an "I don't really know anything about that" plus "fake news/AI" excuse, followed by a "MARXIST IMMIGRANT SQUIRREL!!!" diversion attempt. Unfortunately his diversion attempts seem to result in threats or actual violence against innocent people.

Expand full comment

Makes you wonder if there's an "I don't really know him, never met him" coming from Trump despite any video evidence to the contrary (AI again).

The mere fact that the orange turds followers are excusing this vile human just goes to show how powerful the kool-aid they drink is. They are always going to vote for the dregs of our society if tRump tells them to. What we can all hope is that those fence sitters get off that fence and engage their common sense and sense of morality and vote blue up and down their ballot. Also, they should watch From Russia with Len. Rachel Maddow did an amazing job on that piece. WAKE UP AMERICA! Vote blue💙💙

And I very recently read the date for dropping out of the race was a couple of days ago, so Robinson's name will be on the NC ballot, whether or not Trump or the Republicans want his name there.

Expand full comment
author

That is correct.

Expand full comment

I’m inclined incredulous that 40% of NC voters don’t care about what Robinson said in the past or present and will still vote for him. I despair reading that this election is so close and millions of people will vote for a lying miscreant convicted felon who will have the nuclear codes and could destroy the world.

I am still stunned that so many people would believe the constant lies and fear mongering coming from the Republican Party and its leaders. Just like in Hitler’s Germany. Who are these people 😡

Are they? They are willfully ignorant. They may be well-educated and still ignorant. They are GOP voters who refuse to be anything else. That’s what I do not understand.

You forget, Trump has effectively made Democrats into the enemy with his rhetoric so I imagine those are hardcore MAGAts that wouldn't vote for a Democrat if they had a gun to their head. A few of those may leave that section of their ballot blank, though. Hopefully. Maybe.

"the troll is out of the cave and in the harsh glare of sunlight, his skin smoking badly from exposure, and all of America can see him for what he is." Great comparison. "Kirk Giles, 50, asserted that it is kind of a guy thing. “There’s not a man alive that’s never looked at porn or did something stupid on porn because we’re men. That’s what men do," he admitted."

Holy crap. For one thing, that's not what all men do. The only time I looked at porn was when I was in college and we all went to see "Deep Throat" at the University Center. Yes, the public university I attended showed Deep Throat at the friggin University Center. What can I say? It was the 70s.
