When the Dobbs decision came down in June of this year, most agreed that the effect of it would be seismic and could shape the entire national landscape, especially with both chambers of Congress resting on threadbare Democratic majorities.
Excellent post on TFS Steve; speaking of Lee County residents failure to timely evacuate, satellite imgagery showed Ian take a 90 degree RIGHT hand turn when it was over LAND in Cuba well west of Havanna then a 90 degree LEFT hand turn to reach the Hot Tub of Gulf waters dramtically increasing the risk of Landfall in Lee County exactly at the same Barrier Island, Cayo Costa, where a Hurricane [ CHARLEY ] made Landfall in 2004. Just sayin'.
Hurricanes react differently over TERRA FIRMA. Even the Meteorologist preferred "European Model" which has many live data sources does not have an aircraft or other tools over CUBA. After Landfall many Florida observers correctly reported that Ian moved SLOWLY over Florida land about 9 mph going NNE.
Fetterman in PA is barely holding on in the Senate race with a month to go. Warnock and Walker, despite the recent revelations about Walker’s hypocrisy on abortion, seem to be in a very tight race and Kemp is in the lead vs. Abrams. I am not sure, absent some real push by Dems, that Barnes can defeat Johnson in Wisconsin. The real Senate race to watch is Georgia, because that will likely dictate control of the Senate and keep the Republicans from killing the filibuster to pass a national abortion bill.
Just a push for democrats to donate. I am fearful of what might happen if we lose control of the Senate. No chance of GOP change in Idaho so I help in other states, most recently swing state democrats.
Thanks, Jay, for continuing to inform us. I find your input invaluable. Lots of bumps in the road between now and "The Election To Remember ths November." Here in Maryland I just received my ballot by email from the Election Board. I have printed a 16 page pdf file. I can not file it electronically, but the Board of Elections HQ is 10 minutes by car from here.
As I read your piece, as regards the major push for no abortions on the red side, I keep thinking, "Are all of the red policy makers old white men or their sons? Did they seriously shoot themselves in the foot by making the abolition of Abortion Rights such a large plank in their platform, or am I THAT out of touch with the issue in this country? OK, sure. Most of the women I know are centrists or liberals. Are there really women on the other side who feel as righteous about denying a woman the right to decide what she wants to do with her own body?"
Meanwhile, here in Maryland, I heard there was a ploy to have Democrats switch parties for the primary to try to get Dan Cox selected as the Republican for Governor. The point was, he's so far off the grid that most republicans wouldn't vote for him. My new ballot shows that there are four other contenders and a space for a write in. Those four are Democrat, Libertarian, Green and Working Class Party. I guess we'll find out how fractionalized the non-republican side is in November.
As an aging Baby Boomer, I was expecting the backside of my life would be a pleasant downhill ride. NO! I can easily do without the perturbation caused by MAGA people and their Liar In Chief. Was there always this much "lie/cheat/steal" and I was just too distracted (or too stupid) to notice?
Is there any chance of adding an amendment to the Constitution that says, "While serving your district, state and/or country, if you lied. That means you lose your office and any pension, can not run for any election every again and must work in community service until you reach 65 years of age, after which you'll ..................................... be sent to The Liars Home with no connection to the outside world, where you and other liars can exchange lies until you die." Just spit-balling, mind you.
There is a different type of denialism happening in Florida now:

Thanks for the satellite imagery information, Bryan.

Very helpful and detailed explanation. Thank you.

You may find this local article interesting. The reporter raised questions, but local and state officials said they made the right call.
