Jack Smith is doing his part; now we need to do ours and elect Harris as President of the United States. Remember, no one is coming to save us - we are in charge of our future.

Chris, I love your upbeat, positive message. I'm sadly cynical, so I welcome your reminder that it's up to us to get Democrats and like-minded others to vote for Democrats up and down the entire ballot. When Democrats vote, we win.

I have a 15 year old son in HS, he wants to be an astrophysicist. I have to be positive, but we also send out post cards to swing states - in our case Arizona. But, here is something uplifting for you: we have seen record numbers of new voters register since Harris was elevated; the largest group is young black women. Those new voters are not being polled.

I am a retired Physicist. It warms my heart to know a15 year old aspires to be a Physicist. Congratulations dad. You are doing a great job raising him.

Daughter of a retired physicist here, I went against all his recommendations and became a chemical engineer. Physics was fun but chemistry, especially advanced chemistry was funner.

Astrophysics sounds incredibly cool though!

My son is taking honors chemistry this year, all his friends told him he would hate it. I told him he gets to blow things up! After only being in class a couple of weeks, he loves it. I knew he would, his mind is very analytical and detail focused.

I can't take all the credit, he's waaaay smarter than I am. But my love of all things space has certainly moved him in that direction. BONUS, I get to buy him a telescope next year.

And that is why Jack Smith prosecutes war criminals at The Hague

Expand full comment

And that's why he's taken "Judge" Aileen Cannon to the 11th CA in appealing her wholly untenable ruling to dismiss the MAL stolen-docs case on the farcical grounds of "illegal appointment" of SC Smith by DOJ. The man is a bulldog, and he's going full-on prosecutor mode to get his man.

This is a great move by Jack to revive a “dead” case against Donald. Trump was feeling safer after ducking most of the legal consequences of his crimes against democracy. But this will yield some new sources of pressure on him and on his flailing campaign.

Noting says “Weird” to me like violating the US Constitution, and being convicted of 34 felonies for business fraud while running for re-election to the Presidency.

This Jack Smith t-shirt will NEVER get old 👇 🤣

So dumpster is grifting again , when has he ever stopped ! I am absolutely disgusted with the actions of dumpster and his cronies did at Arlington Cemetary ! No respect for our fallen soldiers because he wanted a photo op which is illegal ! Just goes to show the amount of disrespect he has for those that served and the rule of law ! Why isn't DOJ looking into this as should be mainstream media ! Both of these are not doingtheir jobs ! Do better !

Expand full comment

The image of thumbs-up smiling Trump and his cronies desecrating the memory of the fallen at Arlington is truly disgusting and gut wrenching, not to mention illegal. Trump is a truly disgusting, shameless excuse for a human being.

Expand full comment

I counted 5 "thumbs up" in the photo. Was that coordinated? Certainly not coincidental.

I'm fed up with the "news" coverage insisting that Trump et al "didn't understand" the prohibition on using the Arlington National Cemetery, and especially not Section 60. The reality is that he doesn't care what the rules are, believes he has every right to ignore each and every rule or regulation or, even, federal law.

Expand full comment

Unfortunately this goes much deeper than ignoring rules and laws. Trump has a deep disdain for our military, and it’s increasingly obvious he especially hates those “losers” who‘ve died for our country. I’ve run out of words to describe my anger at and disgust for a man willing to disgrace ANC and all it stands for.

It was on CNN this morning, according to my husband. They did NOT show the horrid photo of him smiling, with thumbs up, while standing near the graves of the soldiers who died in the Afghanistan attack. However, they described the altercation. I realize Fox Entertainment probably won't broadcast it, but at least people who venture beyond Fox will learn about it.

Trump needs to surrender his passport and decomission Trump Farce One, as the "known flight risk" he is - he already said he'd flee to Venezuela.

Expand full comment

Yes, as soon as he loses the election. Pronto!

Expand full comment

While I agree with you in terms of a flight risk, let’s *please* be very clear that Trump did NOT say he’d flee to Venezuela if he lost.

In his conversation with Elon Musk (I won’t use the term “interview”, because it was clearly *not* that), he said that if he lost, we’d all lose our freedoms and that his conversation with Musk wouldn’t be possible in the United States. He picked Venezuela as the place that would have more “free speech” than this supposed dystopian view of America that he has, an almost humorous choice, given that Maduro is currently “stealing” the election there from his opponents, who it appears *actually* won.

I doubt that Trump would EVER leave the US and our political scene voluntarily, but if he’s sentenced to hard time (I know! I’m a “glass-half-full" kinda guy! 🤣), who knows?

Expand full comment

I'm certain he'll run when he runs out of options and the trials he knows he'll lose starty getting scheduled. He's terrified of jail.

If he is diagnosed with dementia, he may end up in a psych ward, not a prison. Of course, there are many very mentally ill people in prisons (and possibly demented prisoners, too, for all I know). I’m no lawyer, so I may be very wrong.

I’m not so certain as you, Tom, but I wouldn’t be incredibly surprised if he did…

During his bail hearings, the judge clearly determined that there was no flight risk. Which makes sense because him being a candidate pretty much requires being in the US.

Much as I would like to see Trump in prison for the 34 felonies he has already been convicted of, I do not want any defendant - Trump or other - to be jailed "just because".

Expand full comment

Trump's backers, powerful oligarchs, won't let Trump abscond. He is far more valuable to their cause as a martyr in jail. If he absconds to avoid jail his base will disintegrate, and the oligarchs will lose their muscle on the ground.

Expand full comment

I’d assume as a bail condition of one or more of his four trials (NY, DC, FL, GA) and one conviction in New York, his passport must already have been surrendered.

The other question I keep asking, finding no answer or response, is when is convicted felon DT going to turn in his hand gun he has at Mar-A-Largo? Owning or possessing a gun as a felon is a felony under federal law and most if not all state laws. It is also a violation of all of his various bail conditions. The state of New York and New York City are in the process of revoking his gun permits.

I wonder if Alito, Thomas, and possibly other Supreme Court justices are already developing a work-around re: this new indictment. Perhaps a trumped-up 'originalist' document proving that Trump should be king and immune in all things.

Expand full comment

That could be, but we must work with what we have.

Expand full comment

I wouldn’t put *any* dirty trick pass them…

Expand full comment

I'm absolutely sure they are. But when Harris wins and the Democrats take the House and Senate, they'd better be careful. It's not out of the realm of possibility that both of them will be thrown off the Court.

Expand full comment

A simpler solution to the (Un)Supreme Court, if we take the House, the Senate and the Presidency, would be to get rid of the filibuster and add four seats to SCOTUS. I wouldn't say that too loudly, but if Harris wins, I think it should be right up there with passing the Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act as first orders of business.

Expand full comment

Amen! Is it possible for them to be indicted/impeached for bribery, violating federal court and SCOTUS ethics, conflicts of interest, etc.??

Expand full comment

Alito and Thomas, I think. I favor replacing them and expanding the Supreme Court. We are almost certain to get militia attacks at some point, but we need to move forward instead of being too frightened to move.

Expand full comment

I agree, Carol. Not moving forward out of fear is the same as obeying in advance, which is what tyrants/authoritarians count on from us ordinary people.

Oh, it is possible - but consider the likelihood of two-thirds of the Senate voting to convict.

I'm not sure you could get that if they were captured on video shooting down passers-by in front of The Court. Partisanship is a bitch...

AOC has already filed articles of impeachment against Alito and Thomas in the House. But since the Republicans control the House, it’s DOA and Speaker Johnson won’t even assign it to the Judiciary Committee.

I suspect they are. They reserved the final decision of "immune actions" to themselves by not being specific. I suspect they will turn themselves into pretzels to accomplish their mission- save their boy.

Expand full comment

I totally feel that same way, Penny. I remember listening to Alito in that immunity hearing take off on a different tangent other than the issue actually being presented, and his inviting the attorney for the special counsel to agree with him to which that attorney stated his disagreement. Trump is, yet again, going to appeal any remaining charges, again insisting on complete immunity which, like his other consistently sham "defenses" should be dismissed for the time-consuming, self-aggrandizing delusions they actually are. The trial and appellate judges will again do a beautiful job of thoroughly explaining why trump's actions are intentional violations of the law, then SCOTUS-6 will "explain" why the actions in the superseding indictment can all be distributed to fall within their defined-just-for-trump categories of "rebuttable presumption" or "core immunity". You see, they aren't accountable for their actions either.

Okay I get it, Jack Smith is still in there pitching, but this whole process has taken and will continue to take way too much time. Remember, “Justice Delayed is Justice Denied” DonOld and his cronies (The Supremes, Cannon) have played this all in trumps favor from the start. I have very little confidence at this point that true justice will prevail.

Yes but. Look at all the stress he's under, all if his own making. His life can't be happy right now. I can't imagine anyone would want to change places with him.

Trump hasn’t been happy for a very long time. Under that facade of grins and thumbs ups, he’s a small, angry, hateful person with an ego that always wants more and will never be satisfied. As he keeps raising the ante on what will satisfy his greed and ego, he only sets himself up for further disappointment.

Yes, he’s under a lot of stress and you are correct, all of his own making. Given that and his age, diet and health, something is going to pop one of these days soon.

The immunity is for Trump, not, at least directly, for people who may act on his orders. To what extent does the ridiculous SCOTUS decision confer immunity to someone who commits a crime at the President's command?

Expand full comment

I believe that if the “President”, in his “official” capacity, orders someone to do something, they are also covered by immunity. If, however, they were given their orders by “Candidate” Trump, they would not be immune. Hence, Smith dropped any charges of DOJ staff (Jeffrey Clark), but not campaign staff.

Expand full comment

I'm not perturbed that Jeffrey Clark has been dropped in the superseding indictment. He has plenty of other problems like possible (probable?) disbarment and the RICO case in Georgia. https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/jeffrey-clark-filing-says-he-is-unindictable-for-anything-related-to-jan-6-or-other-election-subversion-efforts/
