Thanks for link to LULAC!

If I might add,I’ve been supporting Marc Elias/Democracy Docket( for those not familiar, he’s the one who won all the court cases against the nefarious GOP players) and CREW because they are fighting back against people like AG Paxton.Meanwhile I’m working to GOTV in MAGA-villa,Fl!

Flip the Vote has them as one of the best grass roots organizations fighting for democracy. They knock on doors and have a great ground game.

Thanks for that information. I think it might have been helpful if Senator Gutierrez also posted this Twitter video in Spanish.

And here I sit, a blue voter in Texas, trying to essentially hide that fact. No yard signs, no camo hat, nothing. I'm an old white guy, but Ken Paxton has no limits.

Texas will be blue. It might take awhile but we will overcome their blatantly anti-democratic ways.

Expand full comment

I have a blue friend in Kerrville, TX. She is afraid to have signs or a bumper sticker.

Expand full comment

I was also. I wanted a yard sign but was nervous someone would throw a rock through my window. But then a friend of mine said that’s exactly what they want, you to be afraid.

Once she told me that I said you’re right. So I’m waiting for my yard sign and if it gets stolen or my property defaced, I’ll just put out another and call my homeowners insurance.

I agree Tom. I feel like we are having a revolution against Kevin Roberts counter-revolution. We are the revolution. Just told my daughter to make sure that her boyfriend, who is from Texas, is registered to vote. Viva la Kamala!

"Beating" the impeachment charges empowered him politically against the other faction of the Texas Republican party, which in most states would be considered pretty radical right wing, too, but in Texas is the only counter to this piece of crap of a human.

It says a lot about Texans that they keep electing these people. When I lived there, I had some hope that the techies moving in from California would change the electoral situation some, but it seems that what happened was that the types of Californians who moved to Texas were the types who would be attracted to this mayhem, along with Musk fanbois (sometimes the same group).

But still, I think Allred has an outside chance Kamala can somehow break through the corruption.

Expand full comment

You nailed it about the types of Californians who move here. I am not optimistic about Allred, but for whatever reason he doesn't seem to have attracted the level of right-wing rancor that Beto did.

Expand full comment

I'm no longer in Texas, so I don't have a feel for the landscape like you probably do. I'm hoping that Kamala generates a landslide of such epic proportions that she drags a few red states with her, but it doesn't help when mainstream media continues to cover Trump like he's a normal human being.

Your fear and self-censoring means the extremists have won. Don't get me wrong; I truly understand your situation. I have a "blue" sister in Fort Worth. The current climate is untenable. Hang in there!

A stronger justice department that won't back down from prosecuting Paxson would help. I dunno, maybe it's happening. I thought when they dropped the charges he was getting away, but apparently there is more stuff in the works...

I feel like I would put my family’s safety (and my home) above displaying a yard sign. I don’t blame them at all - there are other ways to work for democracy.

Expand full comment

I live in Austin, which is reliably blue, in a blue neighborhood. Yet my Biden yard signs (obviously, this story dates back to when he was still in the race) were hideously vandalized anyway. Did I take them down? Hell no: I scrubbed, taped, and painted over the childish, far-right fanboy graffiti and put them back out. Now, my Harris sign stands proudly out front, next to a solar garden light where vandals will be seen, next to my Mothers Against Greg Abbott sign. But I live in a part of Texas where no one is going to shoot at my house for being a Democrat. I am here for Texans like you. Stay resolute.

Paxton is corrupt, cruel, ruthless and apparently unstoppable, based on how his supporters turned what should have been a slam dunk guilty verdict in the state Senate to an acquittal.

From refusing to save women's lives to threatening nonprofit refugee support groups to this latest action, Paxton makes DeSantis look like a kind man in comparison.

Texas is a totalitarian state. It is what they want for the country. Like we see in Texas, once they're entrenched its almost impossible to get them out. They control the levers of power. Scary stuff.

Can you imagine what a "Right to Vote" Constitutional Amendment would mean to America?

(yeah, I know. Might as well wish for the Lotto numbers and a pony, but still.)

I’d settle for passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. It was so close and was spiked by Manchin (D-Dirty Energy) and Sinema (D?-Herself). That would be a BFD for securing the vote. We'd need a big Blue Wave to have any chance but I’m starting to think its possible

Good reporting, Jay...also, several days ago TX was the site of an absurd FoxNews/Maria Bartiromo - yes, her again! - "report" that alleged "thousands of illegal immigrants" in South Texas were somehow getting voting registration certificates "by Democrat Party officials"...of course, absolutely ZERO evidence of any of this, but Paxton's office said that he will "follow up" these bizarre and fictitious accusations, though I suspect even this shite was too ridiculous for the AG, and that the whole bit of nonsense has quickly dropped out of sight.

Maria Bartiromo should have her license to practice "journalism" (or whatever it is that she supposedly does) yanked forthwith.

🤯😤😒Trump can win on Character???? Do they mean that he is a character (meaning character in a derisive manner) or is the NYT editorial board seriously deranged? Trump has no character. Well, okay, yes...he has character but it is not, by any means, a good character. Trump is stuffed to the brim with every mean, greedy, sadistic, chintzy, selfish, insecure, weak, corrupt character trait or flaw one can think of or name.

I am a Texan. Paxton is a cancer on the soul of our state and nation. Abbott and Patrick are just about as bad. I am not optimistic that our state will change. This garbage from them will not help. They know no bottom.

I mean, “Republicans” are against abortion, we good Christian folk are too, so anything else these fine R’s do, we are all in. Even if what the things they are doing are the most dishonest, vile, evil and cruel and unquestionably unchristian things in the world, we love them.

I am an evangelical Christian and the past 9 years, and more and more each year(and this fall will be the worst no doubt), have angered, saddened and revolted me over and over. I hate what has happened to common decency and kindness and honor and integrity. Trump and his ilk have poisoned us.

I am waiting for justice and honesty and common sense to return. I pray I live to see it. “Never look for justice in this world, but never cease to give it.” Oswald Chambers. We sure need some justice for Trump, et al., and soon………….

Lie, cheat and steal because they can't win on their policies (real or spun) they have cast doubt on true election results for years and it should make them ineligible to vote themselves... if they were prosecuted for the crimes they've committed...but they weren't.

I forget who many decades ago said that if fascism ever came to this country it would come under the flag of anti-communism-paraphrased, as I do not remember the exact words.. The flag may be a little different but the fascism is the same.

These stories need to be out there so everyone can see what jack-thugs the Repugnats are.

I thought it was Sinclair Lewis, which would have fit, but apparently not. This was an interesting bit of history behind the quote--https://relevantmagazine.com/culture/books/who-really-said-when-fascism-comes-to-america-it-will-be-wrapped-in-the-flag-and-carrying-a-cross-1/

It’s only a matter of time. We’ve got demographics on our side.

Here, in the backwater state of Ohio, we passed a constitutional amendment to restore Roe. Now we have a bill on the ballot to strip away the republicans illegal gerrymandering control from them. And oh how they are lying about it.

I’m hopeful we will break through and end this.
