The contrasting stories starkly point up that Donald Trump's instinctive first impulse is to lie. He then closely follows on with refusal to acknowledge or cooperate, and instead tell more lies and to hit back with distractions (usually falsehoods or half-truths) and then to litigate, assuming that his money will allow him to wear down his opponents and detractors. He has not deviated from this playbook since the 1980s.

Another positive outcome that we can "thank *trump" for is that there will likely be - with bipartisan support - a re-assessment of the document classification criteria, rules, and procedures. How ironic that there have been so many established "business as usual" government norms that have been shattered in response to the chaotic, calculated, selfish, corrupt, and sometimes criminal and perhaps treasonous actions of this self-avowed swamp drainer.

Here's the depravity of right wing so-called news reporters; Jesse Watters; “I mean, Pence, seriously. We have this great thing going with Joe! Come on, man!”

Jay; loved your "mother" comment. Also a gif this morning of Pence's face during interview where he shifted his eyes... how reliable are the words out of his mouth?

Thank you for the explanation.

... and a Classified Document for you ... and a Classified Document for you ... and a Classified Document for you ... all God's children get a Classified Document (seemed apropos per Pence ;-).

I want a classified document ... pretty please. One that I can copy the cool cover & frame on the wall for my '45 Bar' in NY.

I have one I found wrapped around old Xmas ornaments. It’s on newsprint and tries to disguise itself as “Ads” but it is clearly marked Classified.

Bryan - perfectly put ! Hope it makes a few people realize how absurd this situation has become - with some people even suggesting we need a third "Special Counsel" - where will it end !?!?

Right?!! Yes, of course.

Please correct me if this isn't the relevant distinction: The National Archives noticed documents missing from the Trump presidency. They were of sufficient importance that there was a database with gaps in it. The documents that Biden and Pence had were not being sought after. So there is a process for tracking classified documents, and perhaps it is working as intended.

I do not believe for a second that Trump is going to get nailed to the wall for this one either. It's the left keeping him in the news and the right making excuses for him. Like it's been all his life...his cronies backing him up and whatever went wrong is everyone else fault. Classic narcissism.

All we can do is continue to apply pressure and urge that justice be done.

I agree - just feeling a bit like nothing is going to happen today.

How about writing a letter to the editor of the New York Times whose star political reporter provided “analysis” of the Trump-Biden-Pence document cases by replicating the chattering classes’ conflation of the three. Jack Smith will not be fooled and if Merrick Garland, whose incessant repetition that the DOJ follows “the facts and the law” decides that indicting Trump under violations of the Presidential Documents Act is too political, the rule of law is dead. Come on, people! Call out the media for muddying this issue! Applying pressure means calling out those who deliberately sow confusion because it attracts eyeballs. Demand that justice be done. Be loud.

I really needed this! It’s like a day of good news lifting the cloud. I’m ready to join you in a happy dance! Wow. Never thought I’d have grateful feelings towards Pence. 😁

I may be over optimistic but I think Gardner knows perfectly well that Biden’s docs are innocuous but wanted the news broken by someone acceptable to the right. Will he need to do the same with Pence?
