I hope some of the money coming from the eventual sale of his properties goes to the contractors who were screwed over when he refused to pay them what they were owed.
All those debts were discharged in various bankruptcy cases. No going back. Sucks, but he abuses every legal avenue he can - anyone surprised is not paying attention.
Jay can weigh in eventually, but at this point it I'm not sure if their unpaid bills (unless they had judgments) can be litigated. That Atlantic City garbage was a long time ago.
Hopefully some of these contractors can petition the court, or maybe a class action lawsuit to try and get some sort of compensation. I know that it’s probably wishful thinking but he reneged or paid pennies on the dollar to the people who built his properties.
I would think if there was a lien filed on the properties, they can collect on the sale. It's my understanding that a lien stays with the property. It can't be sold without satisfying the lien, no matter how much later it is sold. But i could be wrong.
What caught my attention was "...for decades, Trump massively inflated values on his properties in order to secure more loans at better terms. "
This doesn't sound like it was news to the NY AG office. Where were James' predecessors when all these shenanigans took shape? Wasn't he always known as a shady character by local prosecutors? I knew it, and I've never lived there. So did most of the people reading this blog.
Man, the pain those people could have saved us all if they hadn't let him work the system all those years.
I did live there, and yes "everybody knew it." Compare to Harry Hemsley and his wife "we don't pay taxes, only the little people pay taxes" Leona. Trump envied the Helmsley's and patterned much of his later buying and deal-making habits habits on them. It is kind of like how New Yorkers "knew" commercial real estate (on either side of the Hudson River) involved the Mafia. Remember, Trump's mentor was Roy Cohn, who not only represented John Gotti, but served as Joseph McCarthy's chief counsel during the McCarthy hearings.
Thanks. Yep, Roy Cohn should have been clue enough. I grew up in Chicago, and if NYC was anything like Chicago, a lot of palms were greased to get people to look the other way.
It is the way commercial real estate went down in NYC, so, yeah, NYC was a lot like Chicago. Of which I've "heard things" but of which I don't really have personal knowledge.
From my (Non-Lawyer) understanding - it take someone to "get the ball rolling" for the AG to start an investigation. In this case it was Michael Cohen who provided the testimony for the AG to get ahold of the business records. Even an AG needs probable cause.
One official who did know about tRump's NYC "deals" was former DA Robert Morgenthau, who was very chummy with the tRumps, and basically kept hands-off...only when Cyrus Vance, Jr was elected as Manhattan DA did the office move against tRump, but stalled out over appeals and tRump then elected president. Bragg didn't move on tRump directly regarding business fraud, but rather the tRump Org. and CFO Allen Weisselberg, but finally NY AG James got the goods on tRump himself and two of his spawn, as outlined in Jay's report. So, three civil suits lost in this year alone, and one civil and three criminal trials pending. After all these years of thieving, lying, defrauding, and generally criming non-stop, he's getting what was long coming to him, AND IT AIN'T OVER YET!
There's an old adage that goes something like this: In order to get a bank to give you a loan, you have to show the bank that you don't need one. The Trump Family Crime Syndicate really took this to heart.
The loud public support of Trump seems solid but there is definitely a trickle of people quietly edging away. I truly believe the dam will break as Trump's criminal and civil liabilities mount. This is a tangible and easy to understand case of Trumps' (all of them really) fraudulence.
Todd. I have never believed any of the lying people that say Donald’s following is strong and getting stronger. It’s weakening by the second. By the second.
Do you think? Aren’t lots of MAGAites (MAGAzens? what is the term other than a Yiddish expletive?) believers in “getting the ‘system’” even when it’s a fake billionaire who’s doing it? Won’t they admire him - even if convicted before the GOP convention - and cheer him on?
Darrin Bell’s Substack post (today) about the blueprint to dismantle all the good we have lays out the plan. (From Heritage I think.) It CAN happen here, evil at the greatest level, triumphing.
I'm surprised he didn't argue that he gets to count the square footage in the air space around the buildings since his Sacred Aura extends out there, and of course so many people rely on his fumes.
Will this be able to trigger the I.R.S. to do the mandatory audit that they neglected to do while he was in office? Pretty sure if he evaded taxes at the State level, these same fraudulent representations may have been used in Federal filings, tax evasion is a crime and the whole family should be audited accordingly...at the very least.
I’m afraid the IRS looked at this and decided it was too big to take on, without enough actual money to recover. Trump may be far more broke than he claims.
I'm pretty sure the IRS have been investigating him for a long time, although I can't remember the details now, around from when he was first impeached? Not sure. 🤷🏼♀️
All of Trump’s New York based properties will be sold if the order stands which it probably will. But nobody knows for sure, right? After the State, the secured creditors and the lucky receiver and their professionals are paid there will enough left over to give Trump and his crooked family some digital trading cards.
His ‘buyer from Saudi Arabia’ hypothetical is partially correct except he got the country wrong. When he had defaulted on a loan from Russian money laundering Deutsche Bank he managed to sell a Russian oligarch a Florida property for $95 MILLION, twice what he had paid just 4 years earlier and 2X the estimated market value.
I don’t that he’ll be brought down on financial crimes. The Manhattan DA had his best shot but declined to take it. But he can be ruined by this civil one.
If he goes down, it will be for January 6 and/or the Mar-a-Lago classified documents.
Inflating things is trump's m/o. He would buy properties in NYC knowing full well that they were not zoned for his intended use; and then he would try to strongarm / cajole / threaten the Commissioner of Housing into convincing the zoning board that he was special enough to have them change their rules to suit him. Not sure why anyone is surprised by his lies.
Oh Donald.... honey.... pumpkin.... I would LOVE for "them" to do to you everything "they" could do to me as an ordinary citizen. I would love for you to have to stand in line for 7 hours to get your driver's license renewed. I would love for you to be reprimanded by your boss for working 15 minutes overtime without permission ( while being expected to fit 60 hours' worth of work into 40 hours). I would love for you to go through every. Single. Annoying. Thing we, mere mortals have to go through while living our lives.
If Trump ends up in a 9x9 cell, he's free to claim it's 27x27.
Well played.
You win the internet today, David!
I was just going to say the same thing!
With gold plated plumbing - oh, wait, that's just the patina from years of leaking.
Or 100 x 100.
~Chet's Kiss~
Ummm. Do you mean "chef's kiss?" Just asking.
Depends on who his cell mate is.
Well, it probably won't be his current wife!
We can dream can't we?
Yes, yes I did...
Ha!
ROFLMAO!
Beautiful! 😂😂😂😂
😂👏👏
I hope some of the money coming from the eventual sale of his properties goes to the contractors who were screwed over when he refused to pay them what they were owed.
Most of those contractors have been forced to settle with Trump for pennies on the dollar, or their claims are otherwise time barred, I’m afraid.

Highly unlikely as the settlement money would belong to the "people of NY" and not any previous creditors.
Brings up another “what if” : what would be the ultimate burn for the repurposing of these properties?
Low-income housing
Or...Obama buys them and THEN turns them into low-income housing!
A guy can dream, right? 😁
I would think if there was a lien filed on the properties, they can collect on the sale. It's my understanding that a lien stays with the property. It can't be sold without satisfying the lien, no matter how much later it is sold. But i could be wrong.
Lot of bankruptcy cases and lawsuit settlements have washed under that bridge.
What caught my attention was "...for decades, Trump massively inflated values on his properties in order to secure more loans at better terms. "

None of this should surprise anybody.
Thanks. Yep, Roy Cohn should have been clue enough. I grew up in Chicago, and if NYC was anything like Chicago, a lot of palms were greased to get people to look the other way.

Again, part of Trumps success for so long is the normalization of his corruption.
From my (Non-Lawyer) understanding - it take someone to "get the ball rolling" for the AG to start an investigation. In this case it was Michael Cohen who provided the testimony for the AG to get ahold of the business records. Even an AG needs probable cause.
A crack in the armor, yes. A critical one.
I'm not complaining! :-)
From Heather Cox Richardson's newsletter:
“If they can do this to me, they can do this to YOU!”
Law professor Jen Taub commented, “It reads better in the original ketchup.”
😂😂😂😂
Totally.
There's an old adage that goes something like this: In order to get a bank to give you a loan, you have to show the bank that you don't need one. The Trump Family Crime Syndicate really took this to heart.
In French, the saying goes : "On ne prête qu'aux riches" (only rich people get money lent to them).
🤷🏼♀️🙄
The loud public support of Trump seems solid but there is definitely a trickle of people quietly edging away. I truly believe the dam will break as Trump's criminal and civil liabilities mount. This is a tangible and easy to understand case of Trumps' (all of them really) fraudulence.
That’s the MEDIA amplifying the minority of the public that screams the loudest.
Todd. I have never believed any of the lying people that say Donald’s following is strong and getting stronger. It’s weakening by the second. By the second.
Let's hope!

Darrin Bell’s Substack post (today) about the blueprint to dismantle all the good we have lays out the plan. (From Heritage I think.) It CAN happen here, evil at the greatest level, triumphing.
The term I use: MAGOTS
Thanks. Works!
I'm surprised he didn't argue that he gets to count the square footage in the air space around the buildings since his Sacred Aura extends out there, and of course so many people rely on his fumes.
Methane fumes, mostly.
someone in another comment just called if fraudulence.
Lol!
I thought he had at some point.
F u n n y.
PLEASE OH PLEASE can we FINALLY REMOVE his god-forsaken name from the buildings in NYC and Chicago?!?!!! I get nauseated whenever I see them!!

Has always been my gut feeling--that's why he wouldn't release tax returns. He'll be outed as flat broke
I'm pretty sure the IRS have been investigating him for a long time, although I can't remember the details now, around from when he was first impeached? Not sure. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes, but if they were looking at falsified information, per what NY case is demonstrating, shouldn't that prompt a new review through a fraud lense?

Before he ran in 2015 ...
All of Trump’s New York based properties will be sold if the order stands which it probably will. But nobody knows for sure, right? After the State, the secured creditors and the lucky receiver and their professionals are paid there will enough left over to give Trump and his crooked family some digital trading cards.
Watch for a sudden rise in the number of Gold Toilets available on eBay.
We can only hope!
He may, in the end be less than zero with no resources available to meet the obligation.
I'm betting it was money laundering. I also think he is helping many of them launder money, which is probably what Putin has on him.
Guessing that oligarch might just have had Gospodin Putin leaning on him for that one...
I am very interested in seeing how the IRS will handle Trump now that he has been found guilty of massive financial and documentation fraud.
Al Capone was ultimately stopped by being convicted and jailed for tax evasion.
I will not be surprised when Trump is charged with and found guilty of both tax evasion and tax reporting fraud.
I foresee a very real, genuine, valid, and vigorous IRS AUDIT in Donald Trump and his co-conspiring sons futures.
I don’t that he’ll be brought down on financial crimes. The Manhattan DA had his best shot but declined to take it. But he can be ruined by this civil one.

I’m only an ignorant Brit, Jay, but this sounds like good news! Thanks for the update. Ausgezeichnet!
Gesundheit! 😎

Preach, sister.
yes yes yes!
Hear, hear!!!! Amen and at least a million "likes" for your comment!!! Very well said!!!
I love it! I will love it even more if it comes to fruition! I am not holding my breath.....
