And now it's time for the original Judge to be impeached and removed from the bench because she obviously hasn’t got a clue about established law and was making it up as she went. She should never have been appointed in the first place!
Only Congress has the authority to remove an Article III judge. This is done through a vote of impeachment by the House and a trial and conviction by the Senate.
Is there a pathway to impeachment of Judge Aileen Cannon? Given that she quickly showed herself to be a lawless partisan upon receiving a lifelong appointment, it seems she has clearly demonstrated her unfitness to serve.

Excellent analysis that clearly lays out the important points so that anyone can understand them - thanks, Jay!
I will say that, while it would pretty certainly be fruitless for Trump to appeal to the SCOTUS, it would allow him to continue to drag this out, as he has always done. I'm sure his hope is that he can run the clock out until he (his ideal outcome, since it would insulate him from prosecution) or a Trump sympathizer wins the presidency and can restructure the DoJ and either put a stop to it, or issue him a pardon.
The fact that it took more than a year to take effective action to retrieve the documents, followed by the lengthy process to be able to utilize them in the investigation, is outrageous. The saying goes that the "Wheels of Justice Grind Slowly"...and in this case, it's not only all too true - but it may be that it's too slowly to actually accomplish it's legal duty.
This is one of my fears, that all will be for nought if the schmuck is pardoned. My other fear is that it might be impossible to seat an impartial jury, and/or, once seated, to assure that it would be immune to threats and tampering. A hung jury would be the ultimate travesty.
A proposed conversation about court manipulation: I believe Trump and his lawyers likely "judge shopped" to get his harebrained lawsuit directly in front of Judge Cannon. They appeared to be deeply counting on her misguided loyalty. You were more gentle, Jay, in your language: "... Trump v. United States, a case that the former president brought in federal civil court and that, to his delight, landed in the lap of a sycophant, Judge Aileen Cannon." Trump was successful in inserting timing delays of 5 months and also feeding his base with baloney in the form of specious arguments. It will be great when Trump is finally held to account and we all can get on with important things. I'm hoping we all have the fortitude to hang in there.
Thanks Jay for the clear and point by point explanation. I really appreciate your efforts to keep us informed.

Or at least a public reprimand from whoever outranks her.

And chances of getting a majority vote for Impeachment in the House , in this political atmosphere, is nil.

Such a clear explanation for us lay people!

Don't forget raising money for himself. It's not for attorney's fees like he states because he never pays them.
the person who said we would all be tired of all the winning certainly does a lot of losing himself, consistently…
Mahalo for this reminder! I almost spit out my coffee when I read this. Ha!
Outstanding analysis and a model of clarity.
Thank you, Jay, always appreciate your clear explanations of news and politics.
Thank you for always being able to distill down a lot of very important news for us. We are very lucky to have you!
Thank you for the explanation.
Is there any chance that Judge Cannon could be censured or ideally removed from the bench she is so clearly unqualified to sit on?
"The answer is NO."
