And… it’s been 2 full years since Jan 6 and 45 is still playing golf. I’m disgusted too!

I’m hoping the feds and Fani Willis do better than Bragg on this front.

I'm at the place where I'm ready to agree with you about the strength of Bragg's spine. It seems like the day he officially took office he had an "Oh CRAP, now I'm going to have to do SOMETHING" moment with regard to #45.

I'm watching Brazil's fast response to the Bolsonaro insurrection with envy.

Put my name down in the tfgJAIL cohort, the former guy WILL go to jail even if he is orange.

I knew of no sane person that does not share a collective mounting frustration; included in this is the dearth of accountability for those seditious. CongressPeople that are now running roughshod over our laws and conventions

Without accountability we have no rule of law and without rue of law we have no democracy. This is not accountability.

I know that all this investigation stuff takes time to get it right, but it’s really hard to not get frustrated when at the end, this is the result.

This is a good point. I remain optimistic about other investigations but this one left me very disappointed and frustrated so far.

I listened to commentary on the sentencing. But... He was a school teacher [a million years before he began working for Rump]... But...

So what I see is white privilege that all kinds of folks buy into, but why?

Do black men get off because they once held a job of responsibility?

Do asylum seekers get treated with respect?

Do police treat people with disabilities with utmost respect [meaning don't shoot them dead just for breathing]?

Lauren do you have any notes on the Judge's statement on the record about false T Org W-2's?

Is Ms. Weisselberg being prosecuted for Social Security fraud, if not, why?

Agree. We citizens of the USA should ask for every penny back from her, plus interest and penalties. Then she should go to jail. Admission of her culpability in court, for goodness sake!!

Agree Jerry, I need more facts to file a formal notice to SSA

Well said, Jay. I would not have controlled my fury so adeptly. Sharing.

I am right there with you feeling outrage at the sentence and faltering confidence that our justice system will succeed in holding Trump to account... depressing to say the least!

Expand full comment

When I read his sentence, I vented to my husband. Having worked for a state court, 5 months (and his expected 100 days in jail) is ludicrous for his crimes. Whoever made the deal should be fired. The sentence should fit the crime and be a warning to others that crime doesn't pay, especially for a 15+ year tax fraud scheme. Weisselberg is still on Trump's payroll too and will be during his 100 days in jail and probably given his job back with a raise. His crime absolutely paid off for everyone, but especially for TFG.

Old, white and rich - the laws don't seem to apply. It's more than infuriating, but how do we fix it?

Expand full comment

Nothing surprising here. There has always been a separate injustice system for wealthy white men in the US. Pay to play at work. I will be shocked if TFG ever does even a day in jail. Justice delayed is justice denied and it’s already been two years so that definitely qualifies in his case. Ugh!!!!

Thank you for this concise and clear report on current doings in the New York Trump cases.

Trump was always a slipper fish now so than ever. But I believe in Karma and one day slam bam right in the kisser and I hope I live long enough to see it, And I wonder quietly if that DA is taking money from Donald?

I have a friend who knows the Weisselbergs well. They were neighbors for awhile and went to the same Temple. He has little sympathy for them at this point. They apparently drank Trump's kool aid and succumbed to the $ signs floated in front of their eyes.

The only thing I can think of for the light sentence may have been his age. I'm not sure whether I support a heavy sentence for someone his age.

Expand full comment

Age should simply not be a factor.

I agree! He should have been given a sentence to fit the crime so it is on the books. They could have mitigated it for humanitarian reasons later but the stiff penalty needs to be on the books!

Expand full comment

That’s the way I do it!

Apply the FULL sentence, and THEN make any adjustments for humanitarian reasons. That way the true penalty is on the books.

SMDH I was just saying this morning after reading Heather Cox Rochardsons wrote to last night that 5 months for 17 felonies is a rich white mans sentence this all makes zero sense I am at a total loss
