Love the fact you will be using Hudson's love and devotion as a driving force towards your love and devotion to all of us. As a side note, did you see Joyce Vance's "The Week Ahead" post? Halfway thru, she scared the crap out of me with a story about DeSantis' so-called "State Guard". Perhaps something you could dive into, as a major distraction for you, and a wake-up call to all of us. Oh, and I hope you can feel this huge hug my wife and I are sending your way!
Articles on the so-called "State Guard" appear in Miami Herald, Tampa Bay Times, Insider and The Guardian, to name a few. The fact that so many veterans resigned due to concerns about training tactics and actual purpose, is concerning.
Yes. I have been very disturbed this week reading about DeSatan's militia because it makes me think he is making his own election stealing plans and only keeping those around in his militia, which is private, but paid for by the state taxes, to ensure he can steal the election if it comes to it. It is very Nazi like. If people condemn my usage of that word, when Hitler came to power things had been escalating. After he was in power I think it only took him 3 months to have the concentration camps, at least the first one open and the crematoriums built. DeSantis seems to be using Hitler as his model. Even Kim Jung Un does not have the same racist agenda, because the people that he destroys are his own ethnicity. DeSatan and his ethnic cleansing should make Jewish residents of Florida, even though from Leftist Latin American countries take pause. Let us look at what is allowed to be taught in schools in Florida. I am sure that the Holocaust is part of what has been removed. It is hardly present in so many student's educations as it is. In any case, he has put himself out there as a dangerous guy. If you have a PBS membership watch the Passport series Moscow Noir, it is set in 1999 Russia. Look at how things are done. That is where we are headed if we don't watch out. We are living in a dystopian novel, and what will save us is our ability to recognize it. Should we leave it to the people of Florida to question what is going on? I am sure there are those who live there who are scared. But then, I read an article that said that Florida has the highest total of people moving away in the past few years of any state in the USA. Perhaps the No taxes is appealing to seniors, although losing your life savings to having your home destroyed by an act of nature is not appealing. DeSatan is a con-man and he is joining the grifting party that has Nazi politics competing to see who is the best Nazi. No one wins because they are all so horrible. Let us look at Clarence Thomas who has been getting bribes from lawyers by having them give money through an aide to his Christmas fund when they have cases before the court. I think the IRS should be on that one. Sounds like he had better prove that he really spent all that money on a Christmas party.
Thank you. You have had a lot of loss this year-one compounds the other. I really hope you are taking care of yourself. Do what you must to take care of you.
One thing of deeply concerning possibilities is about Desantis-his takeover of New College in Sarasota is allowing it to be a Nazi training ground. That’s not an exaggeration. Now, news about the State Guard at Camp Blanding, outside Jacksonville, and the militia-training those people are getting-advertising in recruitment info that they will “be a part of history” -is coming to light. All they need are brown uniforms and we are Germany in the late 1920’s, early 1930’s. I don’t know how much press this is getting-but it needs to be known. Fascism is alive and well in Florida, and there’s no stopping Desantis. I only hope his aspirations don’t succeed beyond this state’s borders, or democracy will be murdered in an instant.
A while back I read an article either in WaPo or NYT about independent voters and what they thought about the presidential candidates. One lady who lives in Florida said that she was not happy with a Biden/Trump rematch and if this was the scenario, she probably would not vote at all. However, she said if DeSantis was the Republican candidate she would vote for Biden. She said he is truly a fascist and scared her the most.
As a very concerned Floridian, I fully agree that DeSantis is a grave danger to our democracy and is destroying the state of Florida. his State Guard is a military force with guns, palaces and helicopters and uniforms. It’s NOT a group to help Floridians during emergency situations, as he previously claimed.
As a long time dog lover, (now on my 10th dog as an adult—) I can only say I hope you find another dog soon to help heal the loss of Hudson. It amazes me how good each dog is at making me smile again. Dog love is never measured. It flows endlessly for those of us lucky enough to have experienced it. Meanwhile, thank you for your work. We need to keep beating the drums against the outrageous candidacy of RFK jr. What a dangerous kook this man is!
I agree that a broken heart over the loss of one's dog is made better by another one to lick that wound and create new joy in your household. Cherish the memories of Hudson, but be open to let another pup into your heart, Jay.
In my experience, saving a rescue dog is a great way to honor the life of a lost fur baby and having them in your life can be more healing and rewarding than you can ever imagine.
Hudson's life may have been tragically short, but her impact on you and her extended family, was far reaching. Her Mexico journey's during COVID made us all smile, when smiles were few and far between. And I always perked up for a "Hudson" story or pictures. Thank you for sharing her with us. Hugs.
So very sorry. I've had a couple of those losses over my 60 yrs of dog ownership. Yes, it will stay with you all your life. Which is a good thing because what they brought into my life should not be forgotten. Just focus on the good times, as you are, not the endings. I'm sure her caregivers are also devastated.
Holding you in my heart this morning as you work through your grief. Sometimes keeping busy is the best way to let your heart process it. Hudson is hopefully keeping your beloved Ma company wherever their spirits go after. 🩷
Thank you Jay. Even though you don’t know me, I would love to give you a big ‘mom’ hug and tell you I am so, so sorry for your loss. And then another hug for carrying on.
“Taking care of Hudson taught me that doing things to help others is its own beautiful reward. And while I can’t do any more for her, now that her brief time here with us is over, I can redirect some of my energy, compassion and sense of duty and obligation to others, including this community.” What a wonderful legacy for sweet Hudson to have left for you! Your commitment to helping and being beneficial to others, is very thoughtful especially given all the losses you have experienced this year. Personally, thank you so much for your insight, analysis and clarity that you share with us. I do hope your good works and this community continue to provide comfort for you, especially as the grief is so raw right now.
Jay, sorry is such an inadequate word for your loss, but I am so sorry about Hudson. We just lost our own furbaby on June 20, and the raw grief is still there. Hudson had an amazing life with you. She was loved immensely and she knew it. I hope she meets Harry on the other side of the bridge - he can show her around. ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for continuing to write through your trying times. I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved pet is losing a member of your family. Sending hugs and good thoughts.

Florida = North Korea.
You aren’t wrong!

Thank you. I wish I had words to make your loss easier to bear. She knew she was loved, and that's the best we can give them.

Loving hugs to all who will mourn her.
Hudson would be proud of your writing on issues of the moment (day). We all know dogs live for the moment, too.
Jay, you are the only one who knows how to "you do you" best - do whatever you need to do, however you need to do it, and we will be here either way.

Losing a beloved soul is a process. Remember to be kind to yourself for the next few months. The pain will ease, I promise. 💔
