As a rabbi who will be leading services tonight, I am always impressed at your knowledge and appreciation of different religions. We need more people like you! I appreciate your words wishing those of us who observe Yom Kippur a meaningful fast and to be sealed in the book of life. Thank you for bringing a bit of saneness every day to this complicated world. Enjoy upstate NY!
My high school in Tucson was about 40 percent Jewish and 30 percent Asian. My brother and I were both dating Jewish girls, and my Ma used to say, “WELL THEY ARE ALMOST CHINESE.”
Funny, I’m not hearing much about senators having to pay $5k a day for private security to protect themselves and their families from violent, rabid Menendez supporters.
And of course some of our fascists are literally saying the Menendez and Hunter Biden indictments are just misdirections so the DOJ can seem impartial. FFS.
I was on the campus of SUNY New Paltz for a week in 1981, playing in the World Open chess tournament. (This is of no relevance.)
You noticed that too, did you? I am sure, along with the lack of threats toward the DOJ by the democrats... or the accusations of conspiracies.... or weaponization.... etc.
Hey there, Jay - I just want to say (catch that subtle rhyming there???) - that I really appreciate how you, Heather Cox Richardson, and (V) & (Z) of electoral-vote.com are open about when you're taking a break, something happens in your family, a bad cold or a tumble gets in the way of usually erudite analysis. It's humanizing and great role modeling of community.
I, myself, am just pulling together an unplanned brunch for my 23 y/o son and his friend.
First step? Take the laundry that needed folding OFF the dining room table and into my bedroom for later. The second? Start on the hashbrowns, eggies, tomato salad, fruit tart. (I asked "the boys" to pick up some oj and champers for mimosas...that makes it brunch here!) <3
"...in my view if the Democrats are to retain moral authority in governance, we can’t make exceptions to it when it’s our guy allegedly doing the clumsy and apparent criming."
Exactly. We must walk the talk, not just talk. It will further distinguish the immense disparity of ethics between the two parties.
And of course Menendez whips out the "I'm just a hard-working Chicano who's being attacked for making good" card, fooling nobody, gaining ZERO sympathy, and who is unlikely to resign his senate seat and will take his chances in court. And who is to say that Menendez and his flamboyantly pneumatic wife won't be let off by a sympathetic jury...or just one juror, in reality. Ol' Bob has quite a history, but I guess he reckons that corruption is integral to "the system", he got away with it before, so why not slither up to the trough for another feed? If Clarence Thomas can get away with it, why not him?
Love Love Love New Paltz. Grew up about 20 minutes from there. Jay, if you have time, take a spin to the teeny Town of Olive and be blown away by the beauty of the Ashokan Reservoir. And say hello for me. 😘
I don’t understand that if the government shuts down, why would there be any hearings, including impeachment hearings? It seems to me that the House wants it both ways....to act on their frivolous notions but not act on the responsibilities of their jobs! Geez! Get a different life GQP members!
There are some processes that are exempted from the shutdown. Among them would be impeachment hearings in Congress, but also Justice Department investigations and cases.

My mom knew your mom way back when your family lived in upstate NY. I see why she liked her so much.
😅

I was a chess player in junior high, won my first state championship in eighth grade in AZ!
Excellent! I have won no state championships ever.
You noticed that too, did you? I am sure, along with the lack of threats toward the DOJ by the democrats... or the accusations of conspiracies.... or weaponization.... etc.
“If these were real charges the Democrats would be trying to kill the prosecutors. That’s what you do when you’re really charged with something.”
This is a quote from???
Nah I used quotation marks as a device to characterize the thinking. It’s not implausible though!
Jay, take care of yourself. We will not worry if you are MIA for a few days. You have to refill yourself before you can give to others.
If the Democrats can ask Al Franken to step down over a joke photo and a hand on a woman's back while dancing, Menendez needs to be shown the door!
And really, so do Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, and "Gym" Jordan (just to name a few).
It is an impressive list if you list them all. Think about it and don't forget that Nazi, Paul Gosar!
Sadly, Chuck is worthless in most regards

Have a great day Jay! I’m not a religious person at all. I think religion is also corrupt, but this.... “The love of money is the root of all evil.”

Enjoy your break.
As a paid subscriber and union supporter, I believe writers deserve vacations.
Hear hear!
Enjoy your well deserved break Jay, you’ve earned it and then some!
My college town! I’m happy you’re enjoying your time there!!
We took a trek through it. Very nice campus!
Thanks for everything you do and for keeping us in the loop. You are my go-to source every day.
Enjoy your time with friends! Hope the weather cooperates for the site-seeing.
Thank you for the quick rundown of the top stories.
Cheers!

I still hope Senate leadership comes out against him and asks him to step down.
😣🤯

I love that with said you would keep this one short...LOL! Always great insights, no matter the length.
It wound up going on a bit longer than expected for sure!

Their salaries should shut down!
