This week’s theme was accountability. It’s something that we all hope the rest of 2023 will bring!
The collapse of two regional banks and the worrisome teetering of others, coming on the heels of headline-making train derailments, has many calling for inquiries and reform, and it left one lawmaker with an excellent take.
I love Rep. Gallego (D-AZ), by the way, for stepping up to be our best chance at sending Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) back home to the Grand Canyon State so we can get real filibuster reform through.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the right decided that it wasn’t deregulation or corporate greed and mismanagement that caused the current banking crisis but rather (checks notes) oh yes, wokeness.
Our former Labor Secretary has had it with this nonsense.
Yup. Seriously. Oh, and of course, there’s that terrible thing that “woke” companies also bring, diversity.
But someone checked, and SVB’s board was hardly what you’d call “diverse.”
And lately, because “woke” is pretty much being used everywhere by the right, it’s becoming increasingly meaningless and difficult for them to even explain what it is. Here’s a best selling right-wing author giving it her best shot (then admitting that she messed it up big time and was going to go viral as a result).
Twitter fixed it for her.
But we needn’t worry! According to this school district, racism is over. Hooray!
So, back to fixing what’s broken and demanding accountability. Two of the world’s worst people, Putin and his pal Trump, made headlines with an arrest warrant out for Putin for war crimes and an impending indictment in Manhattan for Trump as part of porn-star-hush-money-cover-up scheme on the eve of an election.
Some folks made the karmic connection:
It may be early for victory laps around a pending Trump indictment, but the Internet couldn’t help itself, given that law enforcement is now preparing for the sight of Trump being fingerprinted and having his mug shot taken in Manhattan. In fairness, you can forgive a bit of giddiness given how long this process has taken so far already.

In other news, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) still thinks she can own the libs on reproductive care. Um, no.
Right wing media troll Ben Shapiro had typically horrid thoughts on school lunches.
So this very cool rock account had thoughts on Ben Shapiro.
In non-political moments, I’m embarrassed to say that this took me a second.

I wonder how long it took this poor therapist to realize his error. Check out his user name.

I was also enjoying, in an eat-the-rich moment, that depositors of SVB were made whole and that investors got the gut punch--as it's usually the other way around.
