This week finally saw some accountability with the indictment and arrest of Rep. George Santos (aka Anthony Devolder aka the fabulous Brazilian drag queen Kitara Ravache) on 13 federal counts.
The moment lent itself to some great takes.
After being found liable for sexual abuse and defamation of E. Jean Carroll and ordered by a jury of his peers to pay damages, ex-president Trump still took the stage at an ill-considered and frankly gross CNN Town Hall…where he proceeded to disparage her again.
Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson, a former GOP strategist, had a few choice words about the whole awful night. (Strong and colorful language warning, on this and other videos this week…) Click image to view.
I was heartened to see Joe Biden’s team pounce upon Trump’s statements and come out with ads against him pretty much right away. Here’s one they made within moments after Trump called January 6 a “beautiful day.” Hats off to his team of crackerjack video creators! Click to view:
Oh, and here’s another, hitting Trump on his “priorities” which included getting rid of Roe v. Wade. Click to view.
In the end, not many people tuned in to listen to Trump repeat his lies, undermine democracy, and attack a female moderator as a “nasty” person. In fact, more people saw the videos Biden made than tuned into CNN that night. The final ratings were a bust: less than what Trump got before in his town halls…and even less than Biden got at his town hall. Imagine the reaction by the orange one.
Prince Charles is now King Charles, in case anyone missed it.
Speaking of unhappy leaders, Elon Musk announced he would be naming a new CEO to replace him, and that led to some excellent trolling.
I’d be far happier with Dionne than Elon TBH.
The pick turned out to be Linda Yaccarino, who heads up advertising at NBCUniversal. The left and the right are both freaking out—the former because she was a Trump appointee who follows the same awful Twitter accounts Musk does, and the latter because she is chair of a task force on the future of work at the World Economic Forum, which sounds big and bad and “globalist” to the right. She is also other things they don’t like apparently:
That tweet got 2.4 million views from panicked Elon cultists. What is they like to say to us liberals? Cry more?
In other news that isn’t news, the war isn’t going well for Russia as its troops may run out of ammo and may get run out of Bakhmut:
AI and ChatGPT continued to both terrify and amuse. Here was one of the amusing results, found on Reddit. If you’re going to cheat, you gotta do better than this. See the circled area of this amazing answer to a take home quiz:
The NYT inadvertently gave us all a nice moment. This is a great headline and a photo (No. Evidence.) Zoom in a bit on the right side:
I found one guy whose day was going worse than Gym Jordan’s. I have probably watched this 10 times lol. Click to view
And this older guy actually gave me some hope that things could be okay, even for trans folk in this country, if people would just remember some basic things about being free in America. His take is worth a listen. Click to view:
To close thigns out, I learned a new excuse for almost everything:
Have a great weekend! Remember to tip the pollinators (and to support this writer and make his day, if you’re feeling generous and have been meaning to upgrade your account…)

The old dude with the overalls, work boots and ball cap -- That's me, except I don't wear overalls, work boots or a ball cap. But the attitude, that's definitely me. We need to remind people more about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Most of all, we don't say 'live and let live' nearly enough, or my personal favorite, "MIND YOUR OWN DAMN BUSINESS."
I wish I had known about the pollinators earlier - I wouldn't have shampooed my carpets yesterday.
