“They” are hoping that threats of violence will coerce judges into making decisions in their favor. I’m not altogether sure that they are wrong. It’s interesting that as Judge Cannon slow walks the “documents” trial, tRump et al have not been attacking her AT ALL, while other judges and prosecutors literally fear for their lives.

I believe it goes further than that. They are sending a message to ALL judges and prosecutors that they are targets now if they merely do their job on a Trump trial.

I have found it disconcerting on how the 1st Amendment

has led to the freedom to

speak so freely of how to

hate and hurt; doxing; swatting; social media,

your neighbor, fellow human

being and even animals.

And I wonder if our Founding

Father's thought this

freedom, could or would, ever be so horribly abused.

With complete disregard to both First Amendment clauses regarding freedom of religion, acting as if their version of Christianity is above all, it's infuriating.

What Christianity?

The twisted version, IMO, but freedom of religion is something that should be respected and the SCOTUS needs to be reminded of that apparently because red states are defying 1A in droves.

So many of the things Dr. King preached about are still problems. Poverty, racism, war - perennial problems for our nation. One day I hope we are Free at last.

One of the scariest aspects of this in my mind is the depletion of moderators within our system. Those in congress, government agencies, who give their time to work the polls that allow for democratic elections, etc. are leaving in droves to avoid threats of violence against them and their families, or to avoid the scapegoating that has become so common amongst poll workers and others that keep our system operational. As the percentage who do the job and don't serve only Orange Jesus dwindles, there is less and less to moderate and mitigate the actions of the cult of BO. Consider that all of those who helped to bring him to account will not exist if he wins reelection, esp. VP and AG and other DoJ leaders.

waiting eagerly. I've thought from the get-go that it was Trump's permission to vent ones worst self that has opened up this mess. And this has been later promulgated by this enablers.

Sadly it now goes far beyond venting and is about bullying, threatening and inciting.

too true. But it STARTED with venting. Basically the permission stripped away the basic concept of civility that had mostly prevailed in public since the 60s. And the freaking net is an encouraging echo chamber reaching those who had merely suppressed their dark side in polite company. In that chamber were more and more folks willing to take action to "preserve" their privileged status.

I would like to hear about why we never hear about those writing death threats getting caught and prosecuted. It seems like they are getting away with it. Are they that smart (hard to believe) or hard to trace?

Some do get caught, and it’s important to highlight them. The TX woman who threatened Judge Chutkin with racist death threats, for example, is named Abigail Jo Shry and she was taken into custody in August.

If you make a death threat to the President, the Secret Service investigates, and ALWAYS recommends prosecution.

They are calling him “Genocide Joe” because of Gaza, and that may doom Democratic chances.

I don’t believe Gaza will be top of news by November. I am hoping an Israel ramp down, which is being pressed by Biden, will occur soon.

I’d like to believe that will be true, but I have my doubts.

Please enlighten me if I am wrong, I mean this sincerely. Because I don’t understand why Joe Biden is being blamed for this horrible conflict. It is not “our” war, and although we may have an outsized influence in that area, ultimately the military decisions are not ours. So, why is Biden being blamed?

Expand full comment

Knee-jerk reaction, assumption of his absolute power and simultaneously his complete fecklessness, presumption that no nation acts on its own volition except the US, etc...

Except who builds the F16s that Israel uses to bomb Gaza? Who is the largest recipient of US foreign aid? To say that we are not involved at all is to ignore the obvious.

I only responded to the question 'why do people blame Biden?' by pointing out common reasons some agitators use. That is not the same as saying 'we are not involved at all'. There is nothing uncomplicated about humanity.

We are providing the money, and the weapons, and the political cover. And, are party to the decisions Israel is making. While our media tones down reporting, the rest of the world sees gruesome pictures from Gaza. Biden personally made the decision to give Israel the greenlight with no red lines. He has sidelined the state department, as well as Congressional approval process for weapons. Also, if you look at it, the South Africa case at ICJ is quite damming. This may well blow over by November, but I’m not so sure.

It will only get worse.

I'm reading about Hitler's "Night of the Long Knives," which took place on June 30, 1934, a year and five months after he became Chancellor. He whacked 77 of his SA Brownshirts, including their chief, Ernst Rohm, and hundreds of other people. Among them was former Chancellor Schleicher. Also killed -- by mistake -- was a musician who had the same name as one of Hitler's enemies.

The reason was to prevent Rohm and his bullies from becoming the new German Army. By killing them, Hitler gained the support of the generals who would not tolerate Rohm, a noisy former captain and equally noisy pederast, from becoming a Feldmarschall.

Rohm was found in bed with his latest boyfriend. He promoted young, attractive men, to high positions. The SS gave Rohm a pistol, to "do the right thing with it," but he refused. He bared his chest to the SS pistols.

The Bloated Yam will do the same.

Interestingly, until this incident, Hitler didn't care about the numbers of gays in his Party. He said he didn't care what his men did in off hours as long as they were loyal National Socialists. After this blood purge, Hitler began the anti-gay crackdown. There were exceptions, of course. Walther Funk, the Economics Minister who drew a life term at Nuremberg, was gay, and rumors persisted about Rudolf Hess, who was called "Fraulein Anna."
