I do my best to listen to your posts through the big picture because I think your analyses are excellent. I remain a free subscriber to the big picture in part because I find the perks for paid subscribers kind of annoying and elitist. I pay for other Substack writers as they pretty much treat paid and free the same which feels egalitarian to me. Not everyone can pay. I appreciate you, Jay Kuo and I am one of your paid subscribers.
I have a minimal subscription to another account with a pod ($3 p month) and WISH more folks posting newsletters would provide a minimal level like this in general.
I follow WAY too many contributors and am way too cash strapped to be able to subscribe to them all.
Tho I no longer subscribe to NYT or other publications as I once did - the level of need for donations and desire for subscribed info far outstrips those costs (and they were substantial).
I too feel like the ‘elitist’ label is a real thing and a roadblock - especially for those in even worse circumstances than myself.
Would like to at least be able to comment on some of the ones I follow (Thanks for allowing that here!) and would not need much (if any) more ‘benefit’ than that.
No time for ALL the hour long interviews and discussions - no matter how excellent.
But community is extremely important and ought to be available at the lowest bar everywhere.
I am continually frustrated at the lack of a central subscription hub that would give me more of a (self) curated newspaper experience.
The fractioning of non-corporate media has been extremely debilitating for democracy.
The question is not why the MAGA Regime and its GOP supporters take glee in revoking financial support for 42 million Americans who need food stamps. The question is WHY 42 MILLION AMERICANS NEED FOOD!! Is this the reason we should believe America is exceptional in human history? What makes us believe we are really great... if indeed we ever were?
This is slightly off-topic, but is tangential to most of what you are writing these days.
The concept of "inflation" is normally applied to currency. When you need more money, you just print it, right? Except of course, now the money is worth less (or worthless) and each bill buys successively less until the economy is flooded with valueless money that won't purchase anything.
Trump and the Republicans have been indulging in out-and-out lies so often that we are seeing "falsehood inflation" in their media, speeches, and press conferences. Telling a lie, especially a carefully crafted one, might have gained a short-term objective at one time. Steve Bannon's "flooding the zone with sh*t" has taken the value of such pronouncements down close to zero. When Trump, any Republican (especially Mike Johnson), Fox News, Dan Bongino, Laura Loomer, yada yada say anything nowadays, it is presumed false and discounted entirely except as a marker for their current preoccupations. Trump's 30,573 false or misleading claims tallied during his first term have been left to stand without bothering to add to them during the second, possibly because it might require resorting to scientific notation, more likely because the falsehoods are being gradually replaced by demented non sequiturs, malapropisms, and nonsense statements.
Retaking the ground lost back towards honest and true speech will be a long slog.
I’m curious - is there any way (or ways) the lower courts can pull together to take on the 6 traitors on SCOTUS who are fully enabling trump’s takeover of our government?
Trump is a PSYCHOPATH. He exhibits every trait and medical symptom. Having had an ex who was in and out of mental institutions like they had revolving doors, I am familiar with many of their symptoms. Being a Narcissistic Sociopath and Pathological Liar with delusions of grandeur is just the tip of the iceberg. His irrational visions of criminals on every corner and use of his office to victimize his political opponents are just more examples of extreme paranoia. Never did a sane person order the military to attack his own people. The military don't have to obey the orders of someone who is INSANE and Trump is certifiable! He is MEDICALLY UNFIT for POLITICAL OFFICE and must be removed.
I have paid subscriptions to more than 12 substacks, including some that most people do not read but which I think are important: "Oligarch Watch", "Russia Unmasked", "Kiev Independent" (Ukrainian perspective), Dean Blundell (Canadian perspective), "Public Information", among others; also "The Guardian" (British perspective) and "Snopes". I also have, grudgingly, subscribed again to the WaPo and NYT. I love your columns, but am having trouble keeping up with reading. On top of multiple regular political (and charitable) donations, it's getting expensive!
I love your work; it keeps me feeling uplifted, informed, and even optimistic. May I make a suggestion? Can you please send your “I’m writing for The Big Picture substack today” posts to your Status Kuo paid subscribers so we don’t have to subscribe to yet another newsletter? Thanks for considering!
Jay, I am a Status Kuo subscriber and from the beginning, have looked forward to your full Status Kuo columns and excellent analysis. For a while now, Status Kuo has offered a lead-in to a topic, then refers readers to the full version in The Big Picture.
I can do one subscription or the other but not both. I’m thinking that I should cancel Status Kuo and subscribe to The Big Picture to get the totality of your writing. At the end of Status Kuo, you say that subscribers can access The Big Picture for free. It’s unclear if by ‘subscribers’, you mean Status Kuo subscribers and it’s unclear how this would be done. Can you clarify? I’ve been reluctant to bring this up, but feel I must. Thank you, Art
You can read most of Jay's posts on The Big Picture with the free version of the subscription to it. Or if you use the Substack app, just search for it and read the free posts. Most are free. I appreciate that writers make so much important content available and I support what I can with paid subscriptions.
Do you think that courts are finally waking up to the fact that the current regime and their religious/billionaire enablers are actively engaging in culling the noncompliant herd?

I couldn't agree more. I no longer subscribe to any legacy media except the Guardian.
I want to create my own (via RSS) but am not tech competent enough to do it - yet. Ever?
Thinking about it a LOT tho….. because of this:

Well, the South Korean government presented our "would-be king" with his own blingy crown, so he's almost here!
That was cringy worthy & disgusting. Flat out ass kissing.

I saw the picture now. Jay Kuo is a lawyer. I saw the babies and saw the dogs and cats.

We can only hope that the marked shift in the courts will trickle up to the SCOTUS.
❤️ the Chumbawamba reference!
