Now that the shock of the news that Kamala Harris is their new opponent in November has begun to wear off, Trump and the GOP are sharpening their knives and preparing their attacks upon her.
Is it just me or do the weird attacks from the right seem somehow more like self-parody than before? I don't know what it is. Kamala's presence at the top of the ticket, but I can't pinpoint exactly what it is about her that is creating such an obvious distinction. Maybe how she comes off? Very normal, very, US?
That's why I loved her recent social media post asking if Trump was okay. We all know the answer. We all know what she meant.
Things the Trump campaign hasn't learned: This is 2024, not 2016. Kamala Harris is not Hillary Clinton. The attacks that landed 9 years ago are tired and out-of-touch now. And most importantly, they do NOT know how to deal with her.
Also, her massive momentum is scaring them to death.
THIS ! This is what people sometimes forget about Hilary. They attacked her for everything! It makes me so mad. I am grateful for her service and paving the way for Kamala
I thought she was impressive in CA when I lived there. Then a little less so when she ran for president. Was happy with Biden picking her for Veep. Then it seemed like she stumbled a bit, but a lot of that was typical misogynist narrative.
Little did I know that a monster Trump killer was incubating during the last couple years. I'd be scared, too, if I was them. Especially him. If he was at all smart (he is not), he'd be looking for some real estate with a view on the Black Sea.
This is NOT the same Kamala from the 2020 campaign. She's done what Trump failed to do - grow into the office she holds. The woman we see today is a formidable force to be reckoned with.
Also, her massive momentum is scaring them to death.

I agree 💯percent.
I wonder if the GOP leaders just assumed Biden would do what Trump would do - fight like hell to maintain power and not give a thought about what was best for the country. They are, as ever, champions of projection!!
I also think they may have been expecting the chaos that the GOP saw when trying to find a Speaker of the House. I have to admit I was worried about that myself with all the ugliness displayed in the run up to Joe Biden's announcement on Sunday.
Joe Biden did something that Trump and the MAGAs aren't wired to comprehend: he gave up power for the good of the country. But if they're surprised by that, it's because they don't know Joe Biden. He's put the good of the country first all of his long career.
I think it's a testament to the love and respect the Democrats have for Joe Biden, and to Kamala Harris's skill as a politician, that Democrats came together so quickly and coalesced behind Kamala as our nominee. I'm very proud of that!
"This is 2024, not 2016. Kamala Harris is not Hillary Clinton." That depends on whether Harris follows the Clinton strategy with men, where her only message to them was essentially that, "Women's issues ARE men's issues." It didn't work so well for Clinton, and it won't work for Harris.
If that's your take-away from listening to her speak, you're hearing things that aren't there. She's made it clear her priority will be building up the middle class and the working class. It's a very appealing message.
It lays out the strategy going forward, and talks about women and a whole raft of demographic groups. But there is not a word about working-class voters. And the word "men" does not even appear in the document.
What? You mean my demographic being "men"? So you think men should swallow that message, "Women's issues ARE men's issues," and just passively succumb, giving her their vote - for no reason, other than... what, that it's good for everyone BUT them. With attitudes like that, it's no wonder women don't win more elections.
It seems to me like they are exactly who we have been telling everyone they are. Racist, misogynist, fascist sh*t stains. And the more they do it, the more people will see the truth; not the cult members of course.
Yes, these attacks are meant to evoke disgust at Harris using all the ugly slurs bigots can think of. They are evoking disgust all right, but back at them.
My oldest child says Harris it blowing up on TikTok (I don't use it) in a good way. That is flying under the radar of the MSM. I am very encouraged and excited.
I think one way it can backfire is just openly mocking them. The other night Governor Walz called the cult and what they want "weird," nailing it perfectly.
What I would give for Kamala or any Dem elected official to start responding with "grow up already" as they really are like petulant kids, and a majority of Americans see thar.
What I would give for the campaign to respond to Trump flailing incoherently during a rally with "use your words..."
A reporter asked Doug Emhoff's reaction to whatever vile thing Trump had just said about Kamala Harris. Emhoff responded to the criticisms, telling reporters, “That’s all he’s got?”
“Look, you heard the vice president yesterday making the case against Donald Trump very clearly. Laid out the case directly, and in a compelling fashion. But she also laid out a vision for the future, a vision where there’s freedom, where we’re not having to talk about these issues of today in this post-Dobbs hellscape that Donald Trump created,” Emhoff said, according to a White House pool report.
That's why I loved it when she said something like, "Is he ok?" It's the only way to be. Let the self-parody do a lot of the work. I think the Harris team/backers get it.
It's all MAGA all the time, a closed system, self-referential and cultish...tRump cannot possibly speak to a wider public because he just doesn't know how, nor care to know how...ain't no "Big Tent" in Magaland.
* He certainly can't accurately estimate crowd sizes!
* He doesn't realize that getting a bigger % of the GOP pie is only a good thing if the pie (i.e., party membership) is growing or is at least stable.
* But then you still have to worry about the numbers for Democrats and Independents. And his decisions and policies never do anything to appeal to anyone outside the MAGA cult!
I was first concerned that the leaders of the let us get rid of Biden had not thought this through. I still feel that way. For all the younger people energized, they are the future but not the reliable voters. Now I read some reservations that Gen-Zers are having and I see that the Republican narrative, which Putin will be echoing if not creating with his Bot Farm is appearing in their thoughts. That is concerning. See the Guardian today on Gen-Zers. While they picked more positive than negative viewpoints, I see the laugh concern, and that she is not serious, but silly as a White, Male response to Harris. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jul/24/kamala-harris-gen-z-voters?utm_term=66a2303381cfe264d0a0a3062c14102b&utm_campaign=GuardianTodayUS&utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&CMP=GTUS_email
When I had a class in the last election of children where no one identified as Black and we read a book called President of the Whole Fifth Grade, by Sherri Winston, where the main character is a Black girl who has a strong supportive somewhat non-traditional family, my students were really bothered by her voice in the beginning. I had to teach to those prejudices which are that a woman's voice should be a certain way. There are so many men who are turned off by a woman's voice that is not "demure" but girls are raised that way too. Particularly White girls, who become White women, who expect a certain modulation. It is certainly a European cultural thing in the EU country I live in. Women and people should modulate their voices and themselves to be toned down. That is not what fires people up though. So, you cannot have it both ways. I just worry that there are too much of the naysayer out there of all ages, and I hope that common sense can prevail, but the Russian bots are probably addressing this young man's social media with messaging that will amplify his feelings. Nancy Pelosi should definitely be getting up there and attacking it as. White woman ally who wanted this change anyway, because she did not want to be the only old person retiring from her position of leadership.
I know my share of Gen-Zers as a last stage Boomer. They're all excited. The laugh is appealing. I've never heard anyone complain about it outside of MAGA land. It's too bad that the Guardian is pumping out that kind of trash. They should know better.
But I may have misunderstood your post. The Guardian article seems pretty positive.
The Guardian article was mostly positive, but the nay sayer seemed to me to show how the Russian bots could be influencing this social media addicted crowd. Since learning that ATT's whole data base was hacked, I have been suspicious that it was a Russian move. Of course Russia stands in for anyone
who intentionally is trying to lose the Democrats the election so that they can chalk the USA up as one of them, a fascist nation. The GenZers in my family are voting, and voting for the Democrats whoever is on the ticket. I have to ask if they are more excited about Harris. I have had Covid since the announcement and it hasn't come up. My 19-year old daughter does too. I just asked her and she said, she did not really care. She is voting and it will be Harris or Biden, but as of yet, she does not know enough about Harris to be excited. We have been sick since the announcement. She has heard about the wonders of Biden at dinner for the last 3 years, so she will need to adjust. Not all Gen Zers are alike. I have 3 more close by that I can ask later.
I wasn't particularly excited about her until I saw her. She's very energized. The Russian bots are a legit problem. Underestimated, too. Putin's Internet Research Agency never shut down.
They can be clever, too. They set up "progressive" social media accounts to divide and conquer. I consider these accounts more dangerous than MAGA.
I agree with you there. I am trying to get excited. Honestly I don't know how I will feel if people who are all excited now, back down as soon as things get ugly. I do not trust this. It is too new. I feel like people are way too manipulated by the social media. Some of that is that I have been attending to many lecture series on how the social media is working to spread disinformation. The conventional wisdom is not to be on it so much, but that is not even something that the experts who tell us to be wary, and how the algorithms work, are doing. So, I do not know who is free of these biases.
I don't think you can "try" to get excited by something like this. You either are or you aren't. If I was down with Covid, I wouldn't be excited by much of anything. Maybe reassess in a few weeks? And drink lots of water!!!
I have watched every one of her speeches since she became the presumptive presidential candidate including this mornings to teachers in Dallas. I love her vision, her energy, her laughter, her moral compass and of course I have her back. Because of her, I have started donating again.
Excellent! Everyone, spread your support to the down-ballot races. Give her a Congress that can enact her agenda and earns what we pay them. Protect your own state from the local Nat-Cs.
The racist, mysogynist attacks have already started. But I'm anxious to hear what you have to say. I think Amy Klobuchar gave some important advice the other night on dealing with the dumpster fire of attacks that are coming: Know which ones to ignore, know which ones to respond to, and know which ones to make fun of.
So far, the Harris campaign and the Coconut Army have been pretty good at laughing off a lot of the crap.
Trump and his minions are going to throw everything at her, be it out of desperation or of absolute malice, or both. Actually they are already starting by passing an Article of Impeachment against her in regards to the border issue, in which she really had no part. They are also trying (in vain, I think) to keep her from accessing the funds contributed to the Biden-Harris campaign by means of a FEC complaint and perhaps a lawsuit.
Hopefully, Harris and the Democrats are ready to counter everything Trump and MAGA throw their way.
Republicans were certainly planning on Joe being his opponent, but now it’s going to be a narrative of a prosecutor Vs a convicted felon. They can’t run on “Law and Order” in a way that will convince independent voters! The next 100 days will be more of this: The prosecutor vs the FELON.
That's why I already ordered this "Prosecutor or Criminal 2024, you can choose only one" t-shirt 👇 🤣
It’s unlikely that they will be able to stop the funds from flowing into her campaign funds as those funds were jointly hers to begin with and Biden has released them, just as he released his delegates.
They are also trying (in vain, I think) to keep her from accessing the funds contributed to the Biden-Harris campaign by means of a FEC complaint and perhaps a lawsuit.
They will fail, the campaign funds are for Biden/Harris, so she was always part of the funds collected. Now it's just her name at the top of the ticket. They keep saying it was only for Biden's reelection, that's just false.
Also, check out this week's episode of PoliticsGirl. She interviews Michael Steele, former RNC Chairperson. I think he's still a Republican, but he's definitely a Never Trumper and is very much pro-Democracy.
Yes, this is excellent, and it is always great to not only hear a Republican speaking sanely and intelligently, but he really knows how organizing at the national level works, since he did that, so it a worthwhile listen.
Marc Elias said (not a direct quote), “if your lawyers are telling you that suing the Democrats about the change in the ticket or the funding, they are stupid”.
About to? It's already happening. Facebook alone is a cesspool of racist/misogynistic attacks. They will get worse as we go along, and, yes, we need to be prepared. I will add your Big Picture article to my "Harris Attacks" folder.
I’m so happy to see the support rally behind our next president! I would love to join tonight, but I have a white women for Harris zoom that can’t be missed! LFG! Madam President!💙💙💙💙💙💙
In case people are wondering whether they Harris team is up to clapping back, check out their response to the 78-year-old criminal's Fox News interview this morning:
I have a cousin who wants to know 'Exactly what has Harris done since she took office'. It's a meme. I would love to give him a sharp answer back with specific accomplishments other than working in the background as an ambassador.
Marsha, but another answer is on another substack, Heather Cox Richardson, who wrote on 7/24/24 on why she is a great candidate, it might just be what she has done a lot as a VP, some of it is on there.
Sorry, Jay, but I'm already signed up tonight for a White Women for Kamala Zoom! Will be missing you. (You didn't hear this from me, but I bet yours will turn out to be more fun)
Ugly is what ugly does, and tRump ain't nothin' but ugly as shite. We knew this was coming, nothing new here, trick is how to respond cleverly and creatively by letting the MAGA ugliness speak for itself.
The tRump/Hillbilly team is not winning and will not win over as yet undecided voters by going all in MAGA, but that's all the feckers have, so let's plan for it.
Even an assassination attempt couldn't push McDonald Trump (aka 'The Orange Turd') past the 46% ceiling! We must continue to prosecute the case to the Undecideds and the Independents that they NEVER want to experience another Trump presidency! Project 2025 will help make that case!
Thanks for all you do to organize people to vote for saving democracy! We on Spoutible have her back too.
I've been thinking Kamala needs to LAUGH at Trump & Co. each time they attack her. Laugh and make a quick remark about how ridiculous they are being. In her first campaign speech she did a LOT of laughing. They can be her trademark. And it uses an Aikido-like move on Trump who has tried mocking her laughter. She should do it even more!

Also, her massive momentum is scaring them to death.
Not to mention they aren’t backed by a 30 year smear campaign by republicans and right wing media, which had a huge impact on the perception of HRC.
THIS ! This is what people sometimes forget about Hilary. They attacked her for everything! It makes me so mad. I am grateful for her service and paving the way for Kamala
Exactly. It was a long term effort to destroy her. They have always been afraid of her.
She has been mentored by an accomplished statesman. He recognized her potential and tutored her.
Absolutely. She's benefitted from working alongside a statesman and a knowledgeable political tactician.
Sort of Like Pelosi and Hakeem Jeffries IMO.
Yep! It's exciting stuff.
Also, her massive momentum is scaring them to death.

She's using her own playbook, not anyone else's.
And that playbook looks a lot like Clinton's, at least when it comes to men and working-class voters. If that continues she will lose and lose badly.
If that's your take-away from listening to her speak, you're hearing things that aren't there. She's made it clear her priority will be building up the middle class and the working class. It's a very appealing message.
Yes, it's a very appealing message. But just words it seems. Just check out this widely circulated memo from the Harris campaign chair:
https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000190-e21e-d944-a1de-e67f85be0000&nname=playbook&nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&nrid=ae20bf02-b9ef-4fa1-a5d1-a40c84ee9053&nlid=630318
It lays out the strategy going forward, and talks about women and a whole raft of demographic groups. But there is not a word about working-class voters. And the word "men" does not even appear in the document.
Well, you are a self-avowed contrarian, so your opinion is what I would expect, even though I don't agree.
Probably not with your demographic, but you don't speak for everyone now do you?
Exactly!!
It's always seemed that way to me but there's something in the air now. Can't explain it. I think this approach is going to backfire on them bigly.
My oldest child says Harris it blowing up on TikTok (I don't use it) in a good way. That is flying under the radar of the MSM. I am very encouraged and excited.
That's the feedback I'm getting, too. I also don't use it. Dems may want to back off on trying to cancel TikTok for the time being, lol.

Trump is stupendousy bad at math!!

Devastating, and immensely scarcasticly witty.

Excellent! Everyone, spread your support to the down-ballot races. Give her a Congress that can enact her agenda and earns what we pay them. Protect your own state from the local Nat-Cs.
All of that, yes. She's got a great laugh. It's weird how important that can be, but it is what it is. A great laugh can be reassuring.
Most of the pictures of her that I've seen this week show her laughing, dancing, being joyous. It is infectious!
And it's not a "silly" laugh. It's full of joy. Kamala can lead the way to overcoming Trump's evil with joyful goodness.
I've never heard the con in chief laugh.
There is no joy in Mudville. Period.
isn’t it lovely to see and hear a positive, joyful, forward-looking campaign, rather than the Melon Felon's tired old messages of hate and fear?
Sending all good wishes for her success (and for Dems to take back the House and increase their majority in the Senate) from Australia!

From what I read the FEC doesn't know to handle this case. But the consensus was to let her access the funds and pay fines later.
Let's see:
not right kind of Black American
no childbirth
diversity pick ( I'd say it is just a better pick than vacuous vanilla never-beens)
stupid ( hmmm-AG for 39mil though)
laughs too much
had a personal life
It just is such banal blather...fear induced, I suspect.

So if MAGA are claiming she's "soft on crime" where are the comments that she "kept innocent men in jail" coming from?
You're not expecting consistency from MAGA world, are you?
This brief article is a good read; thanks for sharing.
Trump is not campaigning to win; he never was. It seems his only goal is to incite enough violence to somehow avoid prison.
One answer is here: https://www.timesnownews.com/world/us/us-news/notable-achievements-of-kamala-harris-article-111991074#
I hope one way the campaign and Dems hit back to the DEI b.s. is to accurately call that out for what it is: racism.
When you blame anything and everything on DEI you're a racist, full-stop. And well know what word they're thinking of when they say "DEI hire."
Sorry, Jay, but I'm already signed up tonight for a White Women for Kamala Zoom! Will be missing you. (You didn't hear this from me, but I bet yours will turn out to be more fun)
Yeah, not sure why they are doing two on the same night…!?
