I personally am subscribed to Substack and many other independent newsletter that have cropped up with many of them "refugees" of the large media companies. I trust these new sources.

Each candidate is responsible for what comes out of his mouth; each should be held accountable for telling the truth. What on earth are you--a supposedly major news network--afraid of?
The American people deserve better; the health of our country's democracy relies on truth-telling and factual information. These things used to matter to journalists. I would hope that in the debate instead of spending his time and effort to play wack a mole with vance's lying (because CBS won't have their moderators fact check vance because they don't want trump getting furious with them for fact checking him for 90 minutes - let Walz do it instead). I hope he asks him some rhetorical question like "Wow, you really think people are going to believe that that stuff? Wierd." Walz can also hit him repeatedly on his admitting on CNN that he created the story about the Springfield Haitians eating pets and that vance admitted he knows it isn't true and has knowingly caused harm to his own constituents in his quest to become VP. Who wants a VP that willingly harms his own constituents? Think of the damage he could do other working people. I think Walz could really have some fun with vance precisely because vance has no sense of humor and is thin skinned and uber-arrogant and he seems to love to troll him anyway and is good at it, too.
Vance can't put good sentences together while speaking under pressure. His book was unreadable and he had an editor! He also lacks a sense of humor which will make him roadkill with Walz.
Notes not allowed, but I assume taking notes is. So while Vance speaks, Walz can keep a tally of his lies (and a repeated lie counts again). Then on his turn can say “you just heard 18 lies in 2 minutes. I counted. He almost beats Trump. Almost.” Then either address the one most important falsehood or just answer his question directly.
I also think CBS is way out of line (actually lazy!) to leave it up to each candidate to fact-check the other. Perhaps Governor Walz could keep a tally of Vance’s lies - then when it’s his turn instead of wasting time countering all the lies he could just say something like, “well, Vance just told you 3…4…5 lies; you can fact-check them yourself at *give a source* or wait until tomorrow when *blank* news does it, but NOW I will actually answer the question he was asked.” Just keep poking at him instead of wasting precious time trying to correct him.
What these cowards in the mainstream media don't realize is that their greatest fear, that Trump will somehow disable them, will happen no matter how subservient they are now. Have they not seen what he does to the many minions he's thrown under the bus?

A few days ago someone on Substack admonished me for suggesting that legacy media was helping Trump either on purpose or indirectly through greed and incompetence. This person said my comments were irresponsible as I was contributing to erosion in trust in the media. That’s like yelling at someone for pointing out a giant fire next door by saying that’s contributing to people’s increased fear of fires. And yeah I get that there are good journalists even at corporate media outlets, but the institution itself is not meeting the moment at all.

Don’t expect emails to cbs or any other media organization to have any effect. They only care about money, and neither canceling a subscription nor writing an email will have any real consequence. Their corporate overlords have plenty of other sources of cash.
The media is unreliable primarily because it’s either profit driven or controlled by people for whom truth is not their primary value. So people who want the truth have to really search hard for it and most don’t have the time to do so. It’s a problem with no obvious solution. Therefore, the Harris campaign will have to spend the time and money to highlight the dangers of Trump, because the media isn’t going to do it.
The obvious solution won't help right now, but it is more non-profit news media. As Thiel pointed out, democracy and capitalism are incompatible. I choose democracy. Capitalism is highly over-rated anyway..
I’ve been saying done many months that the fix is in for the convict. I imagine Tim Walz will make errors of fact, as we all do during our day, but not as a deliberate effort to mislead and misinform the public. My impression is that CBS is abandoning its proud heritage of truth-telling, as exemplified by Edward R Murrow's reporting in Europe and the US, and is instead embracing ratings over truth, tyranny over truth, tax cuts over truth, and fear of MAGA retribution over truth. You must know that Trump and MAGA will go after the press if he's elected, and your ratings and tax breaks will mean nothing. Your cowardice and greed in refusing to fact-check will be your pathetic legacy. Surely you can do better.

I think Walz could really have some fun with vance precisely because vance has no sense of humor and is thin skinned and uber-arrogant and he seems to love to troll him anyway and is good at it, too.
A good debate coach will have tips for handling Vance. And I’m guessing Walz will be ready. Vance also seems clumsy and less skilled.

Notes not allowed, but I assume taking notes is. So while Vance speaks, Walz can keep a tally of his lies (and a repeated lie counts again). Then on his turn can say “you just heard 18 lies in 2 minutes. I counted. He almost beats Trump. Almost.” Then either address the one most important falsehood or just answer his question directly.
I feel that Walz has absolutely got this one.

I also think CBS is way out of line (actually lazy!) to leave it up to each candidate to fact-check the other. Perhaps Governor Walz could keep a tally of Vance’s lies - then when it’s his turn instead of wasting time countering all the lies he could just say something like, “well, Vance just told you 3…4…5 lies; you can fact-check them yourself at *give a source* or wait until tomorrow when *blank* news does it, but NOW I will actually answer the question he was asked.” Just keep poking at him instead of wasting precious time trying to correct him.
What these cowards in the mainstream media don't realize is that their greatest fear, that Trump will somehow disable them, will happen no matter how subservient they are now. Have they not seen what he does to the many minions he's thrown under the bus?
Besides, the easiest way to avoid losing their license is to treat him like the mentally unwell neonazi that he is. Reveal it on a daily basis to the public, dammit.
As for blowback, that's a little harder. How to do this? There were protests in front of the NY Times last week, but they have probably fizzled out. There doesn't seem to be any concerted effort to boycott advertisers.
We have our echo chambers, but that doesn't seem to have any impact. Very frustrating.

He's never going to allow them to do their real jobs or publish anything other than propaganda. Do they not look at how journalists are treated in places like Russia?

A few days ago someone on Substack admonished me for suggesting that legacy media was helping Trump either on purpose or indirectly through greed and incompetence. This person said my comments were irresponsible as I was contributing to erosion in trust in the media. That’s like yelling at someone for pointing out a giant fire next door by saying that’s contributing to people’s increased fear of fires. And yeah I get that there are good journalists even at corporate media outlets, but the institution itself is not meeting the moment at all.

The media is unreliable primarily because it’s either profit driven or controlled by people for whom truth is not their primary value. So people who want the truth have to really search hard for it and most don’t have the time to do so. It’s a problem with no obvious solution. Therefore, the Harris campaign will have to spend the time and money to highlight the dangers of Trump, because the media isn’t going to do it.
The obvious solution won't help right now, but it is more non-profit news media. As Thiel pointed out, democracy and capitalism are incompatible. I choose democracy. Capitalism is highly over-rated anyway..
I’ve been saying done many months that the fix is in for the convict. Corporate media want the shit show he brings because it drives ratings and the oligarchs that run the corporate media outlets want the tax breaks and repeal of regulations that the convict will give them. It’s disgusting how these so called respected journalists and news readers like Gayle King, Norah O’Donnell, David Murray, Anderson Cooper and Lester Holt will say nothing when it is right in front of their face. Someone needs to step up or resign. The convict is desperate and knows his followers love it when he goes violent. The journalism I learned in college and on the ground as a young reporter has died in corporate America. The new god is money; greed is the motivator.

Only 9% of NYC voted for Trump in 16, so it wasn’t as if there was no negative info out there. I know Hillary Clinton was just no fun. She just wanted to talk about issues. +she studied&knew the answers.

I imagine Tim Walz will make errors of fact, as we all do during our day, but not as a deliberate effort to mislead and misinform the public. My impression is that CBS is abandoning its proud heritage of truth-telling, as exemplified by Edward R Murrow's reporting in Europe and the US, and is instead embracing ratings over truth, tyranny over truth, tax cuts over truth, and fear of MAGA retribution over truth. You must know that Trump and MAGA will go after the press if he's elected, and your ratings and tax breaks will mean nothing. Your cowardice and greed in refusing to fact-check will be your pathetic legacy. Surely you can do better.

How exactly can we call CBS to account before the debate to encourage (force?) them to actually practice journalism and have the moderators fact-check the debate in the moment? This is outrageous that they are cutting and running rather than fact-checking.
