In lieu of my regular look ahead to the week’s news, and because it’s Mother’s Day, I wanted to hit pause on politics and instead share with you an excerpt from my upcoming book, MA IN ALL CAPS.
Jay, I loved reading this so much! Your abilities to engage and compel and clarify and question are as impressive in this memoir style as they are in political punditry. I can’t wait to read the book.
Beautifully written. In my imaginings I see your mother below that balcony and the beautiful women above. How all their lives changed from those treasured moments! Thank you for sharing. I look forward to the release of your book!
I couldn’t imagine myself being interested in such a book and now I can’t imagine not reading and relishing it, having read this poignant and stimulating piece! A perspective so compelling and human.
Beautifully written, Jay. I love the combination of history and story that makes biography my favorite genre. Yours is particularly sweet since we now know Ma and can visualize her through your colorful writing. Thank you for your Mother’s Day gift! First one without your Ma. We once again share your loss on this day. ❤️🌹
Thank you for sharing MA. It's is marvelous that you appreciate what an amazing woman she was and that you let so many share in your joy, awe, frustration, love. Thanks you.
WHAT WONDERFUL STORIES of MA & SUCH A PERFECT MOTHER'S DAY GIFT TO HONOR HER! I I HOPE FOR YOU THAT WRITING THESE RECOLLECTIONS BRING YOU SOME COMFORT. ESPECIALLY ON MOTHER'S DAY-- A SAD TIME FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE LOST OUR MOTHERS, REMEMBRANCES KEEP THEM WITH US!HAPPY MOMMY'S DAY!!!
Jay, I hope you know that you are a GREAT writer! You have such a way of interweaving what’s in the minds of others, with the external and dispassionate observations of a good ethnographer (both in this piece and your daily posts). I am very sure your Ma was (is!) very proud of you. Your accomplishments and intelligence every day honor her strength.
What a nice story. It's so interesting the things that fascinate us as youngsters, even if they aren't as deeply and beautifully exotic as we imagine wen we grow older and wiser. They still hold onto a bit of the magic of our memories.
