I lived, worked and raised my family there for 25 years. It’s beautiful, cultured and has tons of great restaurants with chefs from the culinary. We lived in a neighborhood called Forest Park just over the Kingston Rhinecliff bridge. Great schools, great neighborhood ❤️ You will love living there (I can tell you’re already smitten lol).

Kingston is a lovely town, but don't miss historic Hyde Park and Rhinebeck across the river, too. Vanderbilt Mansion has some beautiful gardens and a huge expanse of lawn, which is perfect for picnicking, and a trail that goes down to the Hudson and comes out by the horse barn (long since converted to a mowers and equipment barn).

And there's Stewart Airport not too far from Kingston that makes it convenient to reach from most any place, too.

Enjoy your time there!

About 15 years ago, we stayed in an ancient place called the Olde Rhinebeck Inn. I guess it's dead now, but eating delicious pancakes under 250-year-old timbers was quite the event!

Have you heard the piece called Ashokan Farewell that Ken Burns used in his Civil War film, Jay? It’s so lovely and seems to maych the sweetness of your post today. Good luck in your quest.

Never been there, but Kingston and Newburgh are forever memorialzed as two (of four) communities that were used to verify that trace amounts of fluoride in the water do reduce tooth decay. This is undeniable, the political and socialogical issues aside.

My city fluoridated the water when I was in my young teens. My teeth were full of amalgam fillings until, soon after fluoridation, miraculously I didn't develop any new cavities!!

I always wondered how they explained this to the non-receivers. The other two communities were Grand Rapids and Muskegon, Michigan. I do know how to spell sociological!! The benefits are inarguable, the politics endless.

I was part of that study. Kingston kids didn't get fluoride and my teeth have reflected that all my kife.

Fluoride is most effective if consumed while the enamel of the teeth is being being formed. It alters the crystalline shape of the enamel as it forms, making it much less susceptible to decay. It also has a much lesser topical effect on erupted teeth, still reduces decay somewhat, made Procter and Gamble a lot of money, with Crest, different chemistry, same results. P and G didn't disclose that their remarkable decay reduction statistics were achieved by factory-fresh tubes of Crest (less than one week old) in their study in Indianopolis. They later claimed to have solved the short shelf-life problem of their initial stannous fluoride compound, but never, to my (limited) knowledge, clarified the issue. When I practice dentistry a long time ago, tubes of Crest had a date code stamped into the crimp on the end of thd tube. P and G reps knew this, but were reluctant to discuss it.

What a beautiful little town. If you don't move there, Jay, I will! Wow, it's literally older than our country. I'll bet you can feel the history surrounding you. Enjoy.

Love the history lesson on The Four Corners! Thanks, Jay.

Oh Jay, you are in my birthplace once you get to the Ashokan Reservoir! My great grandmother’s home was one of many sacrificed to bring clean water to NYC. I hope you have time to take it all in. Town of Olive!

There's lots to do in Kingston, NY. Didn't see the Rondout area mentioned, its by the Rondout River with a walkway, restaurants, museum and boat trip to the Rondout lighthouse. There's a lighthouse in nearby Saugerties that you can walk to

For old streets with stone houses, there's also nearby Accord or a bit further Huguenot Street in New Paltz

Historic stone houses are my happy place. Used to love a TV show called 'Stone House Revival' with Jeff Devlin, who lived and worked near my old stomping grounds of north DE/southeaster PA.

I like that buildings survive from that era - I grew up in Lexington, KY. I visited the historical district all the time. Have a great trip and thanks for the beautiful post!
